Happy Hip-aversary

July 22, 2023 marks my one-year hip-aversary! It seems like just yesterday that I woke up groggy in the recovery room under the care of a very sweet nurse who coddled my confusion and tolerated my gibberish. (Here’s the blog post about my hip replacement surgery and a podcast with a friend who also had one).
Although my healing journey has been anything but smooth (hello, cracked femur and bursitis), I’ve come so far since my walker and cane days and wanted to honor this day in a meaningful way.
To do so, I created a mini plan with lots room for flexibility. (I’m solo parenting right now while Tim’s on a bike trip so malleability is the key to survival).
The day began with pug walks and a matcha latte with oat milk from my favorite local dog-friendly cafe followed by penning snail mail love notes and texting with friends on my patio garden while listening to this Tony Bennett Spotify playlist. RIP.
Next, I enjoyed a nearly two-hour ballet practice with Broche Ballet which is always balm for my soul topped off with a green smoothie to nourish my insides and a nap with the pugs under a pink weighted blanket.
Remaining pieces of the plan include indulging in my favorite hip opener, baddha konasana, and writing a love letter to my hip. Oh, and more pug walks and snuggles, of course!
Despite a challenging past year of healing and potential new surgery on the horizon (to remove the metal band around the femur), I’m grateful for this process. It’s helped me slow down (literally) and appreciate simple things like climbing steps (still hard).
Happy, happy hip-aversary to this nearly new hip!

Meet Tranquility Salon
While wandering the streets of Paris in search of Gertrude Stein’s apartment—a space where literary and art figures would meet to connect in what became known as her salon, I dreamed up the idea of hosting a salon TDJ style.
Over the years, Tranquility Salon has served as a space for creative expression in person and online. Now it’s back in a new format with a similar intention—to provide tools to help you live fully and beautifully (without taking a lot of time) and celebrate life’s simple pleasures. Think of it as a virtual subscription box for the soul delivered straight to your inbox!
I’d love to invite you into Tranquility Salon—a mini membership to reflect, learn, and dream for only $9/month (or $99 for one year).

Pulling from my work as a psychotherapist, wellness entrepreneur, and tranquility seeker, I’ll offer a tiny digital bouquet of resources highlighting what’s helping me find more beauty and balance in my day.
Starting on August 1, 2023, you’ll receive a potpourri of THREE tranquility-infused tools directly to your inbox. The three tools will shift seasonally and align with the TDJ Tenets.

A Pink Fairy
It’s never too late to be what you might have been. —George Eliot
Hello love and happy July. We’re officially halfway through the year!
I made it through an intense week at the 2023 International Adult Ballet Festival, cried through dress rehearsal, and (after dusting myself off) won the gold for the beginner classical division! Here’s an Instagram reel highlighting the week.
Oh, and I turned 50!
For years I’ve wondered what 50 would feel like and, let’s be honest, it’s really just another day. I was, however, delighted to wake up proud of my performance from the night before and felt excited to get back on the road for an evening in Savannah before retreating into the Blue Ridge mountains for a few days.
After my hip replacement last July, I wanted to push myself in this year’s solo once I healed. I returned to ballet in late September, began working on my solo in October with my teacher Sean Kelly (shown below), and returned to pointe work at the barre in January. When I found out that there was a pink fairy option for the Sleeping Beauty group piece in the ballet festival (costume below), I signed up for twice weekly private pointe lessons this spring (thanks, Anne!).
I mean, I had to be pink!
This also allowed me to do my Les Sylphides (video here and below) solo en pointe thanks to the push to be a pink fairy (it’s embarrassing to admit what really motivates me).
In this podcast, I share more into what it took to become a pink fairy and, ultimately, win the gold plus tips on bringing your own dreams to life at any age!
I can’t thank you enough for your kind notes and support as I navigated performing in a ballet festival and turning 50 over the past week. This community (you!) means the world to me. Merci for being such an integral part of my world. Bisous. x

50th Birthday Celebrations
Every age can be enchanting, provided you live within it. —Brigitte Bardot
On June 30, 2023 I turn 50. It’s a number that has felt far away for so long . . . until now.
I definitely hope to embrace it (or “live within in it” as Bardot encourages) with gusto!
What that fully looks like is still to be determined and I plan to use the few days after my ballet performance (here’s a peek at practice) and birthday for deeper reflection. I can’t wait to share with you what bubbles up!
Please watch for a special announcement coming on my birthday via a Love Note (subscribe here)!
Wishing you moments of tranquility, living within your own enchanted age, and the exhilaration of sun salutations after a deep sleep. Bisous. x
PS Isn’t that above image adorable? My longtime graphic designer, Christy, created it with highlights of a few things (and beings) that bring me joy. Hope you like it!

Creativity can be at play anywhere — including the process of planning a party or event! As I reflect on the recent Coterie tea party chez moi and look ahead to my 50th birthday (June 30th!!), here are some planning tips that may be useful to you, too.
Decide the vibe: Will this event be a garden tea party? A backyard veg bbq? An open house where people come and go? An intimate dinner party?
Choose a theme: Picking a theme — even if only a color palette — can help you narrow down décor and menu selections. Prioritize substance over kitsch! Consider making it a ChariTea event to raise awareness for a special cause. How-to in Tranquil Treasures.
Send invitations: Whether digital or via a beautiful piece of stationery, sending out invites sets the tone for your party and lets guests know what to expect. Clarify any special dietary, mobility, or sensory requests..
Plan your menu: With food, give consideration not only to what will be served — but how. Grazing stations tend to support a more casual vibe, while sit-down meals feel more formal. For drinks, consider the season: light iced spritzes or warming apple ciders. Don’t forget non-alcoholic options too!
Make a playlist: Music gives personality to your celebration or event, and fills in quieter moments with subtle joyfulness. Here’s one of my go-to event Spotify playlists.
Add ambience: Warm up your event with atmospheric contributions. Think gorgeous blooms, scented candles, and dimmed or twinkle lights can all do the trick. A parting gift (I chose The Qi full flower teas).
Any other must-haves that I’m missing? Happy party planning, lovelies!
