Fall Love & Listening

As we round the corner to the holidays, I wanted to share a few photos from my family’s fall adventures. I feel like we took full advantage of the season this year!

To me, fall signifies all things cozy. From chunky sweaters to warm fires to steaming cups of tea, I love partaking in all this season offers.

There was apple picking (my first time ever), a pumpkin patch, a Halloween event at Hillwood Estate with the pups in costume, glamping at a tiny house in the woods, gallons of apple cider, campfires, and lots and lots of foliage.

Fall is also about shedding and preparing for hibernation.

The few remaining leaves on my trees are a hint of golden yellow and orange. One by one they’ll leave the silver maple and crepe myrtle outside my window naked and I’ll have a clear view of the winter sky.

Along with the natural world, are there things you’re noticing that you’d like to shed or surrender? Anything that needs to be paused until you’re ready to bloom in the spring? Do you want to slow down and rest more than usual? Is there something blocking your full view?

Listen deeply to the longings within. They have so much to say. Bisous. x

PS To explore this concept and more, join me on November 25 for Pink Friday—a mini-retreat for the soul.

Tranquility Defined

Tranquility is the quality of calm within a full and meaningful life.

Tranquility has been my quest since I created a yoga studio called Tranquil Space in my living room 23 years ago.

I’ve incorporated the word into books, programs, retreats, a clothing line, a non-profit, and a podcast. The word is never far from mind. Neither is the concept.

A few years ago I defined my version of tranquility with hopes of making it feel more accessible.

You know, not just something that you experience on a fancy yoga retreat or in a blissful meditation, but when you’re in the midst of daily life drama.

That’s how I came up with “the quality of calm within a full and meaningful life.”

I get it, your plate is probably overflowing (full) and you long to lead a life that aligns with your values (meaningful).

But how do we keep that quality of calm when the dog is barking (I’m looking at you, Gizmo), a loved one is tugging at your sleeve, and you’re on deadline?

Well, that’s the reason Tranquility du Jour exists. To offer tangible tips to find more ease in daily life and to elevate everyday experiences.

I’m so glad you’ve found your way here and I look forward to connecting at an upcoming community event. I mean, can you believe Hip Tranquil Chick is turning 16? Birthday party invite here.

Oh, and I’ve updated Tranquil Treasures. This free tranquility toolkit is accessible to my beloved Love Note subscribers (sign up here) with guided meditations, yoga practices, style resources, and more. So many treats for you!

Have a peek around and let me know what most resonates, what you need most right now, and how you’re finding tranquility at this time.

Wishing you the sensation of your hands wrapped around a steaming cup of apple cider (topped with a cinnamon stick), the taste of a cider donut, and the smell of a campfire burning in the distance.

Thanks for sharing this space with me. I’m so grateful!

A Day in Chicago

One week ago I was in Chicago for a quick Artist Date.

Truth be told, I developed a crush on Harry Styles four weeks ago today. When I saw that one of his tour stops was Chicago and I happened to be free, I spontaneously got a ticket, hotel, and flight (after ensuring Tim could hold down the pug fort, of course).

I landed just in time to make my noon reservation at Althea which is one of Matthew Kenney’s yummy vegan restos. I ordered a pot of green tea, a cheese plate, and delicious French toast topped with strawberries and an amazing city view.

Next I headed down Michigan Avenue to the American Writer’s Museum followed by a jaunt through the Art Institute of Chicago to visit a few of my favorite Impressionists.

Before heading to the hotel to get ready for the concert, I popped into a shop for a matcha smoothie filled with a host of yummy greens to fuel my evening out.

At the hotel I swapped my wide-legged faux leather pants for a sequins skirt and then took the L train to the United Center. I stood in a long line with fellow “Stylers” (the name for Harry fans) decked out in sequins, boas, hot pink, fruit-themed attire, and cowboy hats. It was a vision!

The show started right on time which I so appreciate and I danced into the wee hours with 23,500 other people (95% female). Although I was in the topmost row closest to the ceiling, I still felt like a kid in a candy store. That Harry is adorable and kept me up way past my bedtime.

After walking 25k steps, my feet (and hips) were so happy to be back to the hotel and, finally, landing in DC the following morning.

Thanks for reading about my whirlwind tour of the Windy City!
