Day 4,032: The Greenest

What is good about having a pet?

Everything. Truly. It’s also the greenest of flags, because it demonstrates empathy and the ability/willingness to care for someone other than one’s self.

Pets are the gift God gave us to handle the darkness of the world. They’re pure light. Pure love. Pure joy. They adore us because they’re incapable of seeing our faults. They live to cuddle and play and protect us and get us outside and to sniff and pee and to take naps and make us laugh. The only single ...

Day 4,031: Moon

What is the most expensive purchase I’ve ever made that was not my car or my home?

Does the roof we bought last year count? lol. I don’t think so. I think this question means item. And…I think that’s actually pretty easy: my spec’d out Macbook Pro back in 2020. It was just over $4,000, offset a bit by the fact that I got $2K for my “old” macbook pro that was only two years old at that point, or something like that. But, still — that computer was not cheap.

A close second would be the TV we...

Day 4,030: And Loving It

Quick one tonight bc I podcasted and it’s late, but…got my ass up this morning. Wrote. It was pretty good. Not in the groove yet, but it’s close. Just need to push, and I will. Next week is going to be great.

Movie tonight was really good. It’s Vertigo next week, which is wild. A good day. More tomorrow 😎

Day 4,029: Happy Gale

What was your favorite subject in school?

It’s be easier to answer that question in terms of what subject I was best at, which was always reading and writing involved. Math and the Sciences were always harder for me, though I was still a good student. Bs instead of As. But what subject was my favorite

Theater class, maybe? Especially my first one? I’d never had the chance to really do theater before that, and I was decent at it, right off the bat. I got respect from it. I made people laug...

Day 4,028: Set

Not doing a question again tonight, just because. It was a good day today, though. Better than I thought it was going to be. Had therapy, which was not even planned to be the day after the election. Good thing, that. Good session. Work was busy, which was nice. And I capped off the day by watching the Warriors beat the Celtics (!) and finding the final few tracks for a writing set that I’ve been putting together. It turned out so well!

And the Warriors…ARE we legit? I don’t know yet. It’s too...

Day 4,027: We’re Here

Thinking about all the women in my life tonight, all of the queer people I know, the gays, lesbians, bi, the trans people, the immigrants and the sons and daughter of immigrants, all the people tonight who are probably feeling like this country hates them, and they have good reason to feel that way. It isn’t decided yet, but I think we can all feel it already: the fascist is going to win. I’m so angry about that. I feel so much heartbreak and rage over what electing someone like him makes all th...

Day 4,026: Tippy Tappy’s

What will my life be like in three years?

You know, honestly? I hope it looks pretty much the same as it does now. I don’t anticipate in three years I’ll be able to move to writing books full time—I mean, you never know, maybe something catches fire and I can, I wouldn’t rule that out—but I like my life right now. I don’t need that to happen, you know? It’s not something I’m counting on to ‘save’ me…so if life in three years looks like my day today, I’m going to be very, very happy with mysel...

Day 4,025: Ira Unit

Invent a holiday. What would it be about and how would people celebrate it?

Easy. Star Trek day. Or, fandom-of-your-choice day. A day off every year to watch your favorite show, or go to a convention, have a long weekend, whatever to celebrate whatever your fandom is. I could use that holiday right now, thooooooo

———

Making it quick tonight, because it’s already late. We “stayed up” to finish watching The Game, the thriller from the 90s with Michael Douglas. It’s sooooo gooooooood, you ...

Day 4,024: Saving Daylight

Is there a year of my life I would re-live?

2014 was a banner year. I’m not quite sure that’s what the question means, but I’ll take it that way: 2014 is a year I wouldn’t mind living again, because it was such a (mostly) good time. I wrote my first book, and it was an incredible, life-changing experience. I got married, in Hawaii, with all my favorite people in this world, and that was also a life-changing experience. I was doing fun stuff on the blog, like reading Sci-Fi classics and doing ...

Day 4,023: Donuts Make Me

It’s late, so no question today…long day! Good day, though. We watched the 1956 version of The Man Who Knew Too Much for the podcast. We’re back on that Hitch! It was a good one. A really good one. Underrated, I think. Is it quite up to the heights he reaches with North by Northwest or Vertigo? No. But it’s close. Really, really close. He was almost there.

We also had a spirited discussion about whether or not you can craft “strangeness” with time and effort, or if its just something some peo...
