Day 4,052: Smile!

Making it a quick one tonight because I’m tiiiirreeedd…but we went over to Derrick and Gary’s and watched Smile 2. Liz and I have never seen the first one, actually, but it didn’t really matter. It was surprisingly good. Like…that movie brings the noise. Loved it, actually. One of the best scary movies I’ve seen in a bit. It was really, really good.

That was fun. Got some reading/editing done. Need to crank that shit out tomorrow, though. Night night.

Day 4,051: Anajack

What technology would I be better off without, and why?

Social media. Because it’s a net-negative. A timely question, this, because I’ve been thinking about it ever since the election. For all of social media’s benefits—and there are, objectively, so many! I’ve been addicted to social media, in fact, to varying degrees, for the past, like, fifteen years of my life…in the end, I do think its negatives outweigh them. I think it’s made our society worse, not better. We’re more divided, less-info...

Day 4,050: Thanks

What’s the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make?

An interesting question for WordPress to feed me on Thanksgiving, but let’s do it: putting down Coco. For a moment, I really didn’t think I could do it. I remember saying that as we walked to the room where they were going to take her to us to do it, ‘I don’t know if I can do this.’ But…I could. I did. I held her as she went. I’m glad I did, as dark as that moment was and will always be. She calmed just before it happened. I don’t know if tha...

Day 4,049: Loud Purr

Do I or my family make any special dishes for the holidays?

Liz has a turkey that’s freaking delicious. We haven’t done Thanksgiving at our place for the past few years, we’ve done it over at the King’s instead. But her turkey is legit. She puts butter under the skin, and that does the trick.

My mom really loved making cookies for the holidays. Chocolate chip, oatmeal butterscotch, and persimmon cookies were the ones she made most often. Oh, those always make me think about Christmas. She’...

Day 4,048: More Drip!

I don’t know where my iPad is…I think I may have left it out in my office, or set it down out in the living room. In any event, I’m in bed now and I’m not getting out to get it, ha! So, on the phone it is. I don’t have the same WordPress app here as I do on my iPad, and this version doesn’t have the question of the day feature so, alas, you’re stuck with a summary of my day.

Woke up. Writing was the struggle bus, but I tried. Incidentally feeling decent about how tomorrow will go. Can’t say w...

Day 4,047: Better Together

Name my top three pet peeves.

I strongly dislike a grimy sink. Our kitchen sink—not one we picked, it came with the house and we haven’t made it down the list of priorities yet to swap it out for a different one—drains super duper poorly, and the result is that stuff just sits inside it unless you actively spray and wipe it down…which I do every day, multiple times a day, because I hate it when its grimy, lol.

That’s the only one coming to mind right now. I do have more, for sure. I don’t ...

Day 4,046: Drips

Who are my current favorite people?

A devious question. I don’t want to leave anyone out! They’re not people, but Cooper and Joy come to mind immediately. Liz, of course. I spend the most time with her out of anyone, and I couldn’t be more fortunate to have such a wonderful partner to share my life with. We get along like gangbusters. We’re deep into our drywall repair/living room makeover at the moment, and it’s WAY more fun to work on it together than it is apart. A perfect example for me o...

Day 4,045: First Coat

What are my favorite animals?

I feel like this question is along the lines of what is your favorite dinosaur? T-Rex. Of course. Long live the king. But, it’s pretty easy: dogs and cats. And yes, I do love them equally. They’re so different! Like…the magic of a cat is that they’re so independent…and yet they love you so much. They purr when they see you, and they snuggle up and fall asleep with you. And they’re incredibly coordinated and fast and sharp. Dogs are magic because you are their ent...

Day 4,044: Dino Nuggies

Maaaannnn, North by Northwest is so good. We watched it (again) for the podcast tonight—we’ve reached that amazing stretch of Hitch’s where he’s at his peak, and what a peak!—and it’s just so damn fun. I don’t know if it’s his best movie or even if it’s my favorite movie of his…but I think it’s probably the movie of his that I have the most fun watching. And it might be my favorite of his. It really might. We’ll see how I feel once we’ve completed them all. It’s up there. Top 3 or 4, for sure.

Day 4,043: Or Hardly Workin

Blerg. Another quick one because it’s already bed time! Made incremental but substantive progress on the outline again today. Not as many hours as I wanted, but only because of things outside my control. Ie- work needed some stuff done on a tight turnaround that took me a bit past my normal time. But we rallied. We continue to rally.

Schedule is relative. I’m behind what I wanted, but I’m ahead—so far ahead—of what I could be. So, I just have to keep that in mind. Just keep plugging away, doi...
