Day 3,985: Coliseum
Today was the last Oakland A’s game in Oakland, ever. That’s, man…that is a weird, very messed up thing to be typing.
The Oakland A’s have been a thing my entire life. They’ve been MY thing since…1989, or thereabouts, the year they won the World Series against the San Francisco Giants and became the biggest thing in NorCal sports aside only from the 49ers. I fell in love with them utterly and completely in 1992, the year I turned 10 years old, and Dennis Eckersley broke the all-time saves rec...

Day 3,984: Time Is Wild
Joy does this thing while I’m writing my journal entries for the night where she goes down onto the floor for a while, sniffs around for a while, and then comes to my side of the bed on her hind legs, ears back, and kinda of prances to ask me to lift her back up. We call is “papa elevator.” It’s…very cute. THEN she always tries to stop me from typing to lick my face—also very cute—before finally giving up and curling up in between my legs where she’ll stay while I finish this entry, read a bit o...

Day 3,983: Outage
It’s dark in the house tonight. We lost power a few hours ago. There was the popping sound of an explosion a little ways off, and the power went out a split second later. Pretty sure that means it was a transformer blowing or something like that, but the DWP says repair crews are doing their thing.
Gonna go read more of The Terror I think. Tired. It was a choppy, weird day, but not in a bad way. Just…not back into the routine yet, obviously. Glad to be home! So glad. It always feels nice to c...

Day 3,982: Ourson
A wonderful last day in Portland! Oh man, it was great. Quality time. Scott was even able to get home in time from work to join us on the trip over to the airport. The flight home was an adventure in the sense that there was a (very, very minor) issue with the plane that needed addressed before we could depart from the gate and it delayed us an HOUR…and we only had an hour between our flight landing in San Jose and our connecting flight taking off. They actually had to hold the connecting flight...

Day 3,981: A Quick
Had a great day today! Haircuts, fried chicken, walks, a soak in the Kennedy School pool, bike rides with my bro, and just the best best BEST weather ever. A really, really wonderful day.
Now, time for sleeps.

Day 3,980: Remy
Man…port wines are gooooood shit. Just had a lovely evening of sitting out in Scott and Addie’s backyard by the fire pit, drinking wine and eating food. It was lovely. We ended up eating these cookies we’d got from New Seasons and opening this port-style dessert wine we’d bought from wine tastings back in December and it was SO GOOD.
Earlier than that, we went to the Japanese garden, which honestly was spectacular. Easily one of the coolest gardens I’ve ever been too. Scott thought the same. ...

Day 3,979: CalTrain
A really amazing day up in Portland. Love these guys so much. It’s late, so making this one a short one, but we had a really wonderful day. Good food. Good company. Night night.

Day 3,978: Completely Blind
We made it up to Portland! Lucha is down on the bed with us, she just came down, and I love it.
Gonna make this one quick because it’s sleepy time, but glad to be here. Work was busy today, but I got it all done. And now we’re here. Can’t wait to spend QT with the bro.

Day 3,977: Ding Dong
The book is done. Off to my co-writer, who will send it off to our editor for a nice, good polish. Whew! Feels good. This is the earliest in the year I’ve ever finished a book. I like that. I want to beat it next year by a lot. Wish me luck!
We leave tomorrow to go up and see Scaddie and Cal. Oh, can’t wait. It’s going to be so nice to visit. Decently long trip up there, too, four days. Three without travel, but still. Our trip back down on Monday isn’t until the evening. Gonna miss the dogs,...

Day 3,976: The Curve
Forty pages left. I think that means I got through slightly less pages than I’d planned for today, but it doesn’t matter. The only thing that mattered was getting within striking distance of the end by today, and I did. I am. I only went a little slower today because some sections needed more love than others.
Zonked. I wasn’t during the day, but my last stretch stint got me there. Zonked now. And…thinking about my writing as a whole, as a career. I’m getting much, much closer to the right rh...
