Day 1,697: Blue Skies
Today was one of those days. Hijacked. Lost. For the most part, anyway.
The building consumed both Liz and me today. It was just one of those things, there wasn’t really anything we could do about it. Without going into detail, work had to be done, supervised, coordinated, and ordered. So, that’s what we did. I realized that it’s far, far less stressful for me when I’m not able to be productive because of factors that are entirely outside of my control. It’s when *I’m* to blame for my lack of...

Day 1,696: Elim
This *BOOK* I be readin, y’all. It’s sooo gooood.
There is nothing better than a well-crafted story. The way it sucks us into its twists and turns, and gets us to care about the people caught up in it all. This particular book had a lot of its heavy lifting done for it already, given that it’s based on TV characters.
I’m speaking of A Stitch In Time by Andrew Robinson, the chap who played the character of Garak on the Star Trek show Deep Space Nine. It’s easily been one of the best books I’ve...

Day 1,695: Emailzzz
So, I basically spent all day sending a short story off to my VIP Readers list. It was a lot of work! But, I’m glad I did it. It’s something I’m going to start doing at least once a month. And it’s all for my “organic” list, which means people who’ve signed up for emails from me without being promised an exchange of any kind, people who’ve read my stuff and enjoyed it, and want to keep in touch.
Red Tower is now 135,000 words, which is a full 40,000 words over its projected length. Sigh…it’s...
“Cellar Friends”
They had to stay quiet, or they’d be caught.
Petrick held his breath as a group of older boys stomped into the room above them. The floorboards over their heads creaked as the confused pursuers moved about, searching. The sound made Petrick’s heart slam against his chest.
“Where are we?” Petrick’s hiding companion whispered.
His voice was small. Squeaky. Terrified.
It was dark where they...

Day 1,694: Go For It
I’m having a lot of mixed feelings tonight.
Not “mixed” as in going back and forth on one single issue, I mean that my mind is stretched across a lot of topics and feelings. Not sure why, but it is.
First, I think of what’s happening right now on our borders, these families that are being separated as a “deterrent” (which really means a punishment) to enter our country illegally (which really means without proper paperwork)…and how abhorrent that is to me. And while they may not be death camp...

Day 1,693: Father’s Day
Happy Father’s Day to my dad, Jon Heinichen. I love you, dad! You taught me everything I need to know about being compassionate, humorous, moral, and creative. Among everything else!

Day 1,692: Have You Read My Blog
Omg. The photo for tonight is PERFECT. We went to Powell’s book store today, which is apparently the largest book store in the country (?), and it’s so cool. I’ve written about it before. Three floors of an entire city block, books, new, old, amazingness…
…and apparently trophies. Because, why not? And there was a trophy called “Have you read my blog?” And I love it

Day 1,691: Swank
We made it to Portland! And we are staying in a very swanky hotel. Their motif here is Tiffany blue, it would seem. Lots of Tiffany blue

Day 1,690: Packed
Taking a little trip tomorrow! We’re headed up to Portland with some friends of ours. Liz just wrapped on a project, and it’s as good a time as any for me to get out of town, too for a couple days. Nothing crazy. Just the weekend. Looking forward to some good food and some good company. Get to see my bro, and J, too

Day 1,689: Comfort Zone
So much of what I’m doing right now is outside of my comfort zone.
I realize that’s where the “magic” in life happens, when we push out our boundaries, grow, learn, and experience new things…but it does take its toll. It’s hard work to do that shit!
