Day 1,716: Words Complete

Oh, how I’ve wanted to write this for so, sooo long about this (second) first draft of my second novel: words complete!

I finished the story today. It’s not “the end,” since it’s the second book in the trilogy (and third, but more on that in a second)…but THIS adventure, this phase of it, has now been written.

EXCEPT…for that 1) this draft is just shy of 600 pages, so I’m going to try and split it into two books, which I genuinely think will work quite nicely, and 2)…

The first of the two spl...

Day 1,716: Comedy!

Liz and I went out to see a comedy show tonight. Her former cast-mate from Disjointed Chris was in town, and his long-time show partner Moses runs a regular night downtown, PLUS her friend KT was also going to be there…and so we went.

It was an *excellent* lineup. For real. I was very impressed with all of the comedians. Al Madrigal was there, a Daily Show correspondent, and he was totally workshopping jokes. Brand-new material. That kind of stuff is fascinating to watch. It was a really cool...

Day 1,715: In the Midst of the End

I’m in the midst of the end of my book.

Things are becoming so much clearer now. So much clearer. Finally! Oh, finally…

Hopefully I finish the draft tomorrow. I just thought of some wonderful stuff to cover in the last few pages; the lessons we’ve learned. The conflict still to come.

There is so much work still to be done on these two manuscripts (and I just had an idea for the title of the second of the split-halves this one draft will be come, and I think I love it, but I’m going to keep it...

Day 1,714: It’s Different

It was hot again today…but cooler than it’s been!

Day 1,713: Toe Beans

I’m sitting here in front of my keyboard right now, hand on my chin, trying to figure out how to ‘package’ my day today…and coming up short.

It was a weird day. I was pretty chilled out and happy for part of it, and rather anxious and restless for another part of it, and kind of in between those two for another part of it. It was just…an odd one.

There was no particular reason for the anxiety, and I would even classify it as acute, or even ‘floating’…but, it did prevent me from napping.

And,...

Day 1,712: Quicker

Quick entry tonight! It’s after 1am.

It was 113° today, and it’s going to be 100° tomorrow. Uuuugggghhhhh.

I got 3,000 words written, which I was very happy with. All. Most. Done.

Hung out with Ker-bear and Jessie. We just played Mariokart for a while together. Sooo ffuuunnn.

We went and saw Ant-Man & Wasp. It was competent and enjoyable

Day 1,711: Potter Bowl!

I wrote just over 2,000 words today, and I edited/placed in several more scenes I’d already written…and called it a good day. I’m happy with my day.

THEN…we went to the Hollywood Bowl with Dayner and Twan, and we watched Harry Potter to the live orchestrations of the LA Philharmonic. It was SO FUN!

They’re, sadly, leaving town in a few weeks and we are really going to miss them. Antoine is going to law school out in Phoenix, and Dayna is going with him. We didn’t take advantage enough of them...

Day 1,710: America is a year older

America is a year older.

I love my country, in turmoil as it is. Happy Birthday.

I wrote 2,000 words today on my “off” day. I was very, very happy with that. Tomorrow, my goal is 4,000, and then another 4,000 after that. Wish me luck. Not so much in hitting 8,000 words over the next two days; more so in that I’ll be at the end or close to it after that many words. Please, let it be so.

But, it’s okay even if not. The story must be written until it is over. It should never be rushed, or drawn...

Day 1,709: Blazes

Today was an excellent work day. I wrote 4,000 words (about 16 pages). They were good words, too. The scenes today flowed really, really well. My bad guy is a baaaadddd dude. It’s fun to write.

That is pretty much all I did today, except watch the baseball game sandwiched around taking the pups for a walk and eating dinner. That was nice. I got enough writing done beforehand to do that completely guilt-free.

This A’s team is one I don’t feel like I’ve written about all that much, but holy mol...

Day 1,708: Happy Birthday, Brother

Today would have been my brother’s 29th birthday. Happy Birthday, Russell! I miss you more than anything else in my life, and I love you. I found myself thinking about you a lot today, and the rest of my family. Love you all, too.

Today…was also totally and completely hijacked! Uuuughhh. But…I just had a little mini writing session wherein I put down my best thoughts from the day while I was away from my keyboard and not able to write…and it produced a nearly perfect scene. It’s a scene that...
