Day 2,443: It Will Come

To anyone trying and struggling to write a book, or really doing anything creative, here is tried and true advice: just stick with it. Keep going. It will come.

I was really nervous about writing this opening scene again. I liked what I had originally, but it wasn’t quite setting up what came later, so I knew I needed to change it. I had ideas how, but it wasn’t super duper clear. I also knew I didn’t need to get it perfect, but at the same time, I knew I needed to get it close. Close enough ...

Day 2,442: A quick

It’s sleep time! Gotta make this quick…

Writing was rough in the morning for the first half, and then like a cold engine warming up, I started to roll. Writing in the afternoon was excellent. Tonight, too.

Work was super productive. Hell yes.

Music today was awesome. Found some great new tracks. Loving the little schedule I’m putting together for it, too. Weeknights from 6pm to 7pm Pacific. House Mondays, Trance Tuesdays, Deep Wednesdays, Techno Thursdays, and Back-to-Back Fridays with ...

Day 2,441: I’m a Bitch, I’m a Boss

Had a more normal day today.

Didn’t crush it. But, it was solid.

Writing has been hard this past week. Part of it has been work being so busy, it’s taken up my usual writing times. But, part of it is just intimidation. Avoidance. And here’s the thing: I’m realizing that’s okay. It still hurts me, it still makes me feel inadequate…but not as acutely as it used to, and not for nearly as long.

I’m going to get back in the groove. I know this, now. I just need to keep at it.

The good new...

“The Magicks of Megas-Tu” (Star Trek: The Animated Series S1 Ep8)

…and then Kirk had a drink with the Devil. Literally, the Devil. Easily one of the wackiest episodes of Star Trek, this episode features Spock drawing pentagrams on the floor doing magic, too many mid-sized sedans to count, and we learn that Megans hold majorly long grudges.

Day 2,440: Sweetheart

Guys, my dogs are the gd cutest.

Coops just laid down on top of Liz, like full snuggle status.

We washed the bedding and…damnit, the coverlet is still a little damp. Blech. I dried it for almost two hours! It’ll dry by morning though. It’s almost dry.

Coco just had to give me some kisses.

It was a good, grounding Sunday. Didn’t do much. Feeling more ready for the week.

Watched little Star Trek IV before bed while the bedding was drying. GDit I love that movie. Might be my favorite...

Day 2,439: Sorting

Sorted through a lot of old stuff today. I’m getting rid of a lot of it, and I’m hanging onto a decent bit, too.

I’ve always enjoyed the process of sorting through a messy pile of stuff, getting rid of most of it, and keeping the stuff that really means something to me. I think that’s the OCD in me? Maybe? But it feels good to pare junk down to just the gems, and then holding onto those.

I’m getting rid of a lot of Star Trek stuff.

I remember buying it all over the years. It was excitin...

Day 2,438: Golf!

It’s super duper late, so I’m going to make this Friday night entry a quick one:

Got a little work done in the morning. That felt good.

Went and played golf with Josh. That felt amazing.

Came home and took a quick little nap, took care of the pups and ate dinner, and then played a dope ass set on Twitch AND got my Mixcloud account set up to put my mixes over there so they last forever and don’t get portions deleted for copyright.

Twas a grand day.

Night night.

Day 2,437: Whaddaweek

What a week. Whew.

I was busy AF this week, guys, and fighting my writing for most of it.

But, not today. Today, I wrote good words, words that get to stay.

I was totally out of my rhythm this week, but I have to say…for the most part, I did pretty well. And I’m speaking as though the week is over because I—blessedly—have tomorrow off because of the 4th of July holiday. But yeah…I did alright. I got my shit done. I’m proud of myself.

It was definitely not one of those weeks where I f...

Day 2,436: Nice to meet you

I might have just met one of my new characters for the first time.

I’ve been struggling with this opening scene, and one of the reasons I’ve been struggling is because I just haven’t put my finger yet on just who this person is. I might have figured that out a little bit tonight. Just now, in fact.

Today was rough. Building stuff really put us through the ringer. Nothing crazy or catastrophic. Just…rough.

Work was great, though, thank god. That continues to hum along. I am so, so very v...

Day 2,435: Small Wins, Big Wins

Just had a small win: had a little breakthrough on a scene.

Pro tip: if you’re ever writing a scene, particularly an EARLY scene for a new character, and it’s just not feeling right? Take a look at whether they’re the most active in the scene, or if someone else is. If they’re not the most active, that’s probably why the scene doesn’t feel like it’s working. Switch it up. Make THEM the one doing the most, driving the action, and the other person doing the reacting.

Small win.

Big win to...
