Day 4,223: Grind

I learned today that both John Adams—the second president of the United States—and Thomas Jefferson—the third—died on the same day, the same year…the 4th of July, 1826. Just the first bit of that factoid is remarkable given how involved the two of them were with each other over the course of their lives, but add in the second bit, that they died on the fourth of July, America’s day of independence, is some remarkable shit.

In other news: HBO was absolutely COOKING in the second half of the au...

Day 4,222: Again

Have I ever broken a bone?

I…don’t think I have. I’ve certainly never had a cast, which when I was a kid, I was always jealous of. I don’t think I would have been jealous of the actual breaking of a bone and the last pain that follows…but the cast has always been and will always be objectively cool.

Home again. Wiped. We did so many activities over the weekend, and today was no exception. Helped the parents get the surround sound working. Went by 80 Quail Valley Road and mourned wha...

Day 4,221: Bull Creek Flats

How do I balance my work and home life?

I work from home, so that’s an interesting question. When I’m busy, like super busy, there is no separation. But thankfully my work is rarely that bad. Overall, I’d say working from home massively improves my work-life balance because I can switch between the two in a matter of seconds rather than an hour commute. I really, really, really prize that.

We went to what might be my favorite place in the world today, and I do actually mean that lit...

Day 4,220: Marinara

What sacrifices have I made in life?

The real answer is none. I don’t think of anything I’ve done or had to do as a “sacrifice,” truly. I don’t like the connotation of that word. It just doesn’t feel right.

But…have I decided I couldn’t do certain things in order to achieve something else? Every day. And that includes taking care of the people around me. Like, today: I could have slept in or watched sports on my iPad or whatever rather than going to help my mom pick up trash on the side of...

Day 4,219: D-man

Diego just tried to take my headphones case…with his mouth. lol. Apparently, he’s not really a much of a chewer. He’s more of a thief. He likes to take things, but he doesn’t destroy them. Maybe a nibble or two. He didn’t nibble on my headphones…he just wanted to get my attention. Now he’s down on his bed. Sweet boy.

Work was busy today! I got everything done, though, that I needed to. Got to take a little nap. Had a really nice dinner with mom at a new place on main street called The Boardro...

Day 4,218: Humtown!

What is the oldest thing I wear?

Liz told me to say my skin, but then we realized that skin regenerates constantly, so that’s not right. I said my teeth, which is probably the closest? But, man…the oldest thing I wear?

…some of my hats, maybe? I have a baseball cap thats like ten years old. My wedding ring is almost eleven, so maybe that? But its not like I really have any vintage stuff or any jewelry I wear other than my wedding band, which was new.

Work was light today, which w...

Day 4,217: Play Time

List my top 5 favorite fruits.

This is fucked. There are WAY TOO MANY incredible fruits to just choose five. Godammit.

Okay…Passion fruit, number one. Truly. I am obsessed with passion fruit. I want it in my smoothies, I want it in my desserts, I want it in my belly.

Second: Apple Bananas. They’re tart. They’re creamy. They’re tiny. GODAMMIT I wish you could get them here in the states. You can find manzano bananas here in LA at the 99 Ranches of the world…but they are not the same as t...

Day 4,216: Deck

Another twelve-pager of a day! Whew. Making up lost time. Feels soooo gooooood. And exhausting. We’re keeping it brief tonight.

Liz had a big win today, which is her win so I won’t share it except to say I’m super proud of her. She worked really hard on something and it came out great. Proud of you, Bear!

Netflix work was gravy, just like the writing.

Figured some more stuff out for adding video to the Film School podcast.

Pups are great. Coops is walking more like an old dog lately,...

Day 4,215: Just Shy

Share a story of someone who had a positive impact on my life,

I’m reading a lot of Shakespeare these days, so I’ve been thinking about him quite a bit…but my Sophomore and Junior-year English teacher, Mr. Stephen Miller. He was loud, bald, wore the most retro-looking coke-bottle square horn-rimmed glasses you’ve ever seen, and he was known as being a motherfucker of a teacher. As in: his classes were HARD. People wore that like a badge of honor, though, which instant perked my interest.

A...

Day 4,214: A Flash

It’s past blogging time already, so it shall be a quick one tonight. Someone I know from High School passed away today, which is rather shocking. I wasn’t super close to them, but I definitely knew them, I definitely cared for them, and it’s very tragic to not have them in this world any more. Rest in peace.

I got another twelve pages done today. Woohoo! On track to hit 100 pages by the end of this week, now, which is rather miraculous. Feels so good to crank through them, you know? Puts me a...
