Day 4,333: Home!
Loooonnnggg day. Got up early to walk the pups before it was 100 degrees out. The carrot there was going to Dutch Bros and walking around the really nice neighborhood. Saw some landscaping that we want to emulate for our own house.
Got breakfast after that from one of the legit good spots up there, Biscuits & Buttermilk I think it’s called. Liz got the actual biscuits, but I got the breakfast burrito and holy shit it was delicious. And then poof, it was work time and I worked straight through...

Day 4,332: Nuts
Joy’s wild. We got into Madhuri and Joe’s, and she’s running around the house like a mad lady, army crawling underneath shelves, rubbing her back up against the bottom of the bed. She’s crazy. She’ll calm down for bed, though. I know it. Liz just hasn’t come back in yet.
Work was slow today. Mostly waiting around for feedback which never came. But it will tomorrow. Just ran a speed test for their internet up here. Same upload speeds as home. Whew!
It’s just past midnight so making it a qui...

Day 4,331: Protest
There are national guard troops all over LA. Literally saw a truck full of them driving down the freeway. And let me say as loud as I possibly can: FUCK. THAT. SHIT.
Fuuuuuuuuuck that. Landing troops in my city, blackhawks and machines guns and fatigues with roaming truckloads of fucking soldiers is not fucking okay with me. Whenever the next big protest is scheduled, I am going, and I hope the entire goddamn city comes out with me because this is not okay. We will not stand for it. They need...

Day 4,330: Produttori
Had dinner at Uovo tonight and…legit, that place might be my favorite restaurant of them all. Good god I love that pasta. I had their artichoke heart tagliatelle tonight, plus a ragu added on (basically their bolognese). Liz had the cured pork pasta I can’t remember the name of (aglianico is all I can think of but that’s a wine grape). She won the wine wars this evening, both with her muscadet at the wine bar upstairs and then again with her Chianti with dinner. Holy shit that Chianti was stunni...

Day 4,329: Uncle Papa
Joe and Madhuri and Ashi and Aavi are here! It’s been a while since we hosted them. Particularly all of them. Man…it’s been a whiiile, actually, since they stayed at our house. Aavi wasn’t born yet. It was just the three of them. So, more than 18 months by that count. Wild.
Ashi was excited to see Cooper and Joy, and the feeling was mutual. With Aavi, too. They played fetch together with Joy’s balls. lol. It was very, very cute.
They’re here for the weekend, tonight and tomorrow night, to ...

Day 4,328: I Guess
Once again, thumbing it. Joy is snugged up in the exact spot I’d need to put my iPad to write this entry, and she’s not budging. Silly baby.
Another day a bit out of it. Going to be out and about tomorrow super early and away until the afternoon, I think. So…it was just hard for me to focus. And then we have people staying with us this weekend, plus stuff with the Kings on Sunday…it’s a lot. Good stuff, though, and I shall persevere in terms of the writing.
I’m almost done digging out my p...

Day 4,327: Two Thirds
Thumbing it tonight. Joy just haaaad to curl up in my lap, so no room for the iPad. She’s such a snug. I love it.
Got eight pages written today, which is better than six, the standard, but not as many as twelve. I just petered out by the end of the day because work took me so long. That’s been the story the past couple weeks. Mad busy. Plus distracted by figuring out putting Film School on camera.
Sigh.
Still, it was a great writing session in the morning. I can hold onto that. Time for...

Day 4,236: Tweak
List three books that have had an impact on me.
Resisting the urge to make a joke and say the bible. Honestly, the first one that came to mind, because it was recent, was the Dan Simmons series of essays on Writing Well. Massively influenced by that, which essentially boiled down to: if you want to write, you must read.
The next one that comes to mind, also because it was recent, is the Kermit Lynch book, Adventures on the Wine Route. It got me into wine. I mean, truly, it was Jay Mcinerne...

Day 4,235: Meds
Coops spent allllll day with me today out in my office. Sweet boy.
It’s late, so this is gonna be a short one…but I’m excited about filming our podcast. Whether or not Liz does social media for it (and I hope she does), I’ve turned the corner and am really looking forward to it. There’s a whole audience out there that video will reach, and I think we can accomplish that with some pizzaz. It looks good! Already! And it wasn’t that hard to put together. Simple lights. And miraculously, we’ve al...

Day 4,234: Spicy Grand Prix
Today I learned that ‘jidaigeki’ film is a Japanese genre that means its a period drama, and specifically the time period in Japan before the Meiji restoration, which was when—among other things—Japan began to heavily industrialize. So…the period before all that. The time of samurai, peasants, warlords, etc.
Akira Kurosawa did a lot of work in this genre. It was very popular in the mid-century. I watched The Hidden Fortress yesterday and today. Loved it. Somehow, I’m super glad that I split i...
