More free Kindle/Nook books

Remember when my publisher made Dead Witch Walking available for free on the Kindle and Nook?  They are doing the same for one of my favorite authors, and for a limited time, you can download SCENT OF SHADOWS, by Vicki Pettersson, the first in the Signs of the Zodiac series.  If you've not heard of Vicki's work, it's urban fantasy done on a "heroic" theme rather than a vampire one.  I don't know how long it will be available on Kindle, so if you've always wanted to give Vicki's work a try...

Sneak Peek at EARLY TO DEATH, EARLY TO RISE

I've got a link for you today to Harper and the browse inside widget for EARLY TO DEATH, EARLY TO RISE.  It comes out the 25th of the month, and I can't wait.  I'll be celebrating with a three-day signing tour in Canada along with YA authors Aprilynne Pike and Lesley Livingston.  Following that is the US tour with Ellen Schrieber, Aprilynne Pike, Kimberly Derting, and Kelley Armstrong.  (Not all authors will be at every signing, so check the Tour info )

But anyway, for a sneak peek into what t...

Could have used one more day

Monday already!   I could have used an extra Friday last week, and I wouldn't have minded another day off, either.  -laugh-  But I'm back at it this morning, experimenting with different forms and such for the world book.  I'm getting quite delft at them.

I found this growing in my back yard this weekend.  I'm pretty sure that it is a Jack-in-the-pulpet.  One has already come up about a foot away from it and I remember putting one there, but it's going to be a monster of a plant if the...

The 'coon stole my suet

He stole it again!  He must be a southern raccoon because it was covered in cayenne pepper.  I'm disgusted, but will try again.

And speaking of trying again, I'm pushing forward through a sticky spot on the world book, but it's going fantastic–slow, but fantastic.

Have a great weekend!

Graphic Novel Tease

You might have heard me mention before that we have gone to the inking stage of the graphic novel.  They are starting to come in.  :-)  I got the okay from my publisher to release a couple of pages, and I wanted to show you this one.  It is Rachel and Ivy's first meeting, but the reason I wanted to show you was because it has a visual representation of Ivy going vampy.  It's easy to describe how a person feels when a vampire pulls an aura on you, the close, clammy sweat, the feeling of...

Vying For The Prize

I found these two battling it out last night but I didn't stick around to see who won.  Sometimes, I feel that publishing is like a race between a snail and a slug.  Slow motion, and almost blind.  -grin-  But there are days when you see progress.  Yesterday, my editor finished her read-through of the new-and-improved ninth book, and called it good.  There are about five things that will need tweaking, but it they are small enough that I can do it in copyedit, and so now I can fully turn my a...

And it rained, and rained…

It rained, but we needed it.  Hopefully the wind will dry something out a bit before the humidity rises, and then it will be 85 with 90% humidity.  Oh yeah.  Spring is gone, and summer is here.  Bang!

We are going to the inking stage in the graphic novel due out summer 2011, so I might have something to show you soon.  Nothing yet!  But soon, maybe.  As for the world book, I spend most of my day yesterday working up a background for notebook paper.  Finally had to treat it like a watermark...

No wonder my head hurts

I just took a look at the weather map, something I do every morning, and now I know why my head hurts.  There is a massive front moving through and the pressure is shifting.  Add in to that the allergy goodness of May in SC, and that it's Monday, and I totally get it.  It's one of those rare days that I would like to take advantage of being my own boss and call in sick, but my boss is a brat, and I don't want to deal with the fallout.  (laugh)

Seriously, I wasn't sure if I was going to be...
