No shirts, but lookie what I found!
Guy has the PALE DEMON TOUR shirts, and they are fabulous! I really like them this year, but I say
that every year . . . (grin) I'm not going to show you until Guy is ready to process the orders, because people are getting snarky about their shipments, and he is just not finding the time to get these things out the door like he used to. (We aren't caffe press. Everything goes through my front door twice, once in, once out.)
But . . . while I was looking around in the background of my drama box, I found a link to Literary Escapism who had the cover for the next Madison book, SOMETHING DEADLY THIS WAY COMES! Isn't she beautiful? I knew they were going to do something different for the cover this time, but I hadn't actually seen it until late Friday. Shiny!

Chapter one, page one
This new book's file color is a tan/brown sort of a shade. I wasn't able to get into the store to find brown paperclips, so I'm using yellow. I'm the queen of procrastination, but I refuse to put off actually writing because I lack the proper paperclip. Now, mind you, if I go shopping this weekend and find brown paperclips, you can be sure I'm going to switch them out. (It's like a sickness, I tell you.)
First chapter is in the fire-proof safe, and I'm on to the second today. This book feels different than the last couple. Rachel is happy, and though she generally is, there's no one gunning for her this time, and she can relax and take the offensive. It's a different kind of writing, and I've been enjoying it.
Guy is off getting the tour t's, and though I've not seen them, he tells me they are fricken amazing. We managed to get the price down a bit by going with one ink color and very basic shipping, so I hope they are in the range of more of you out there. I'm looking to put them up for purchase on Monday, but we'll see . . .

And we have a plot!
It took me a couple of days, and all my usual tricks plus a new one, but I think I have the plot hammered out for the next Hollows book. The road trip book will remain my favorite, but I can already tell that this one, which won't see the light of day until 2013, is going to be right up there with my personal favorites. It's fairly evenly divided between reality and the ever-after, which is kind of cool.
So . . . I've got my character sheet all filled out so I can see at a glance the action is well spaced and no character just pops on for a chapter and vanishes for the rest of the book. I've got a fairly equal spread of gender (which is hard for me. I like guy characters) No new characters in this one, which is nice. My page-per-chapter breakdowns are done, and I know where I'm going.
Only thing is, I have to rewrite the end of the previous book, but just a little. Good thing I've not turned it in yet. -grin-
If you are curious about my ever-evolving plotting techniques, click on How Kim Outlines to see last year's rough draft from idea to rough draft. You'll have to start at the last post and work your way forward. This is the development of the book that I'm going to turn it in a few months, and as you can see, I'm still not quite done with it yet. Writing is a slow process, eh?

Winners of Kim Harrison's Annual Costume Contest
I've decided the winners but now I'm so nauseous from looking at the scrolling pictures, I can't post them quite yet. (Seriously, I made myself sea-sick) Check back after noon. ;-)

Last day for costume photos
Tomorrow is the cut off to enter your photos for a chance to win one of the nine ARCs of PALE DEMON. We have 'finally' caught up on the back load, so if you sent your photo in and it's not up, send it again. (unless you sent it yesterday) Keep in mind that if you failed to tell me what category, it might be in one you didn't expect.
We had an amazing 400+ entries this year, and I'm going to have fun this weekend trying to pick my favorites. I need to give a huge burning bunny Kiss-Kiss to everyone who resized their photos for me. Thanks, guys! You're the best!
Winners announced on Monday!

TBD is now KY
That is, Lexington, KY on the 26th! I think the tour is pretty much set now apart from the PR that is going to go along with it. This one is going to go PDQ. (Way too many acronyms this morning.)
I took some time yesterday and built a new page at the website revolving around the summer release of the first Hollows graphic novel, BloodWork. Most of it is old posts from the drama box, but seeing it all together, you get an idea how long it takes to put one of these together. Enjoy.

Thanks, guys. ;-)
Thank you, everyone who posted yesterday. ;-) You guys are too cool. Unfortunately I can't get everywhere, and much of where I go is determined by the stores in your areas. (As in if they are known for hosting events in the past and have employees who know how to run them seamlessly) I'm sorry if your city isn't on the list. I'm excited to be going to so many new places, and I can't wait to get out.
Someone mentioned the tour ts. Now that we have most of the cities, Guy is moving forward on them again, and we should have something for you by mid November. For those of you who don't know, these are the shirts that you might see at a signing, much like a band T. If the store is set up for a Q&A, we always have a "family portrait" of my roadies that goes up onto the website. Sometimes I have as few as four roadies, but sometimes I have a good two dozen. Pictured here is Powells from last year's tour.
Mud made me aware of a very cool website at good reads where you can post your favorite Hollows quotes and vote on the rest. I lost a good twenty minutes there this morning. (Did I really write that? Damn, that's pretty good! -laugh-)
