Geoff is the author of A Basket of Leaves: 99 Books That Capture the Spirit of Africa (2007) and the editor of African Lives: An Anthology of Memoirs and Autobiographies (2013), Thoreau's Wildflowers, (2016) and Thoreau's Animals (2017).

For instance, I had read a lot of compelling true-life stories by Africans, but I never found an anthology of African memoirs to read. As far as I know, African Lives is the first!

Sometimes I have an idea and it turns out someone *has* done it before. I wanted to write a book called The Book of Lost Books and it turned out someone (Stuart Kelly) had done the very same thing -- and with the same title!(less)
