Geoff Wisner My books so far have inspired by the thought that there should really be a book about such and such, and there isn't. For instance, I had read a lot of compelling true-life stories by Africans, but I never found an anthology of African memoirs to read. As far as I know, African Lives is the first!

Sometimes I have an idea and it turns out someone *has* done it before. I wanted to write a book called The Book of Lost Books and it turned out someone (Stuart Kelly) had done the very same thing -- and with the same title!
Geoff Wisner I'm currently editing the diary of George Templeton Strong, with the hope of publishing two companion volumes: Strong's Civil War and Strong's New York. I've been tweeting excerpts at @strongscivilwar and @strongsnewyork.
Geoff Wisner My most recent book is Thoreau's Animals, a collection of Thoreau's writings on the wildlife of Concord, drawn from the 14 volumes of his Journal. I got the idea from Robert Richardson's biography of Thoreau, where he mentions that Thoreau's animal stories would make an interesting book in themselves. Thanks, Bob!
