The murder of Danika Fendyr serves as a critical turning point for the protagonist, Bryce Quinlan. Danika's untimely death not only drives the plot but also profoundly influences Bryce's development. In everyone’s life, there comes a time when they cannot take it anymore. There comes the point when you have had enough when you have been so broken down, unwanted, unloved, and made to feel like a waste of space that you showdown. You find yourself cut off from the world, caring, and yourself. Somewhere along the line, you have lost yourself.

You turn yourself off because you do not feel worthy of living, of being a member of society, of being human. You lose everything and everyone. The final flicker of the flame goes out, and the last beat of human emotion is forever swallowed by the void. You are nothing more than a shell.

You go through the motions of pretending to live, pretending to be alive, but you are not and you never will. You have given everything up with the hopes of everything being better, of not being squashed like an annoying bug, of someone finally seeing you. It never happens. Why?

Why does it seem like some people get everything they want without even trying? Why does it seem like it’s a cycle of you never being able to get better? Never being able to climb out of the rut and into the so-called good life?

Why?

Why?

Why?

Why?

WHY?

WHY?

Because you are not important.

Because you were just put on this earth as a sorry excuse to show those at the top what happens if you fall from grace.

Because it’s your fault.

Because it’s something your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great- great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather did who wronged the wrong powerful man at the wrong time.

You can become a teacher during one of the most difficult times in the world. You give it your all, yet it’s your fault when the child isn’t made to do their homework, come to school, behave, and is given treats for fighting you. It’s your fault when the parents can’t be parents and the child doesn’t turn out to be a respectable member of society. It’s your fault because the parents said so even though the child is theirs, not yours. It doesn’t matter that you have given up every waking moment to see that these children get an education to better themselves. It doesn’t matter that it has impacted your overall health. It doesn’t matter because it’s your fault that you didn’t answer the email at one o’clock in the morning about an assignment due the next morning that was assigned six weeks ago they needed help and you didn’t answer and it’s too much for them to do in six weeks and you didn’t give them the answers and the A. It’s all your fault.

And, yet, you sit there and take it because if you speak up, you will forever be black-marked and red-taped. You have no choice because you are a machine forced to work at the will of someone who doesn’t know what they are talking about.

And, yet, you keep going back despite what it is doing to you until that fateful day when you’ve had enough and leave.

Call me a ray of sunshine if you will.

Sigh…It doesn’t matter…It doesn’t matter…It doesn’t matter…. It doesn’t matter.

Breathe…Just breathe…Just breathe…. Everything is going to be okay…. Yeah, that’s the biggest lie ever told to anyone.

Just shut down…That’s all I can do…Just shut down…. Don’t feel…. Put on the mask…. Don’t let anyone see that beneath the surface you are barely hanging on…Bow down to the mass…Give into them…If you lost it, then it’s all your fault….

Give them what they want and shut up because it’s easier…. It’s easier if you are not human…It’s easier if you don’t feel and don’t stand up for yourself…. Just sit down and shut up…. That’s what they want, isn’t it?

The voices are too loud…I need to stop…. I need a moment to take a deep breath and remember why I left it all behind.

Water lashes up at my feet. My little island isn’t much, but it’s away from the nightmare that is the outside world. It does not serve as an end to all my nightmares. The darkness has this way of once it has taken root in your soul it never lets go.

You are trapped.

You belong to it.
You can’t get out.

You can’t escape.

Don’t even bother trying.

It will never happen to you.

After all, it’s all your fault.

No, it’s my fault!

I dig my hands into the cool sand. Of course, it’s not like the fine-grained sand on the beach at those fancy ocean resorts. This sand is real. It’s not perfect. Like me, it has its scars, it’s been shaped by heartbreak and lies.

I close my eyes and take a couple of deep breaths. The sound of the water gently moving warms my soul. I need it in my life. It calls to me, reminding me that it always forgives—even if society does not.

The water laps softly against the shore, a rhythmic whisper that soothes my restless mind. Each wave kisses the land with a tender caress, then retreats, leaving behind a fleeting trace of its presence. The sound is a delicate symphony, a continuous, calming murmur that speaks of constancy and renewal.

As the water touches the shore, the grains of sand shift beneath my fingers. They are coarse and uneven, a tapestry of textures telling stories of time and tide. Some grains are smooth, polished by the relentless embrace of the sea, while others are jagged, remnants of their more rugged past. The sand is cool and damp, yielding slightly to my touch, grounding me in its gritty reality.
I let the sensation of the sand anchor me, its imperfections a mirror to my own. The gentle lapping of the water is a balm, a reminder that in nature’s embrace, there is always forgiveness, always another chance to be reshaped and renewed.

I take a couple of deep breaths. I am fine. It’s going to be fine. Everything will work out. That’s the funny thing about life. It doesn’t always give you what you think you need or want, but rather what it knows you need or want. The human mind is funny like that. We don’t know what is in our best interest.

I had the job I had always wanted, but it ended up harming me more than helping me. It caused this mental breakdown, this stress, and this inability to let go. Even though I put it all behind me, it still haunts me. It still will not let go of me.

I allow my head to drift upwards. The night sky flickers down at me as the stars dance above my head. Each star glimmers with a quiet intensity, tiny beacons of light piercing the velvet darkness. They seem to pulse in a celestial rhythm, a silent choreography that has played out for aeons.

Sailor Moon, a manga series by Naoko Takeuchi, is celebrated for its profound themes of female empowerment, friendship, love, loyalty, kindness, and heroism. This series stands out in the manga world for its portrayal of strong, multifaceted female characters who are not only warriors but also friends and individuals with their dreams and struggles.

Friendship is a cornerstone of Sailor Moon. The series revolves around Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon) and her friends, who transform into the Sailor Guardians. Their bond is integral to their strength and success. Each Guardian brings unique abilities and perspectives, and they rely on each other to overcome adversities. For instance, in the manga, when Usagi faces Queen Metalia, her friends' combined power enables her to harness the Silver Crystal's full potential. This collective strength highlights how friendship empowers them, showing that they are stronger together than alone.
