While I don’t think Wrath of the Triple Goddess was as strong as Chalice of the Gods, I still had a lot of fun with it. And honestly, that’s what makes this reboot stand out. It’s not perfect, but it’s fun. I also just realised that this is the second Halloween-themed book I’ve read in two weeks… and it’s the middle of February. Oh, well.
I’ll try to keep this review as spoiler-free as possible, but since this is the second book in a reboot and the seventh book in the overall Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, there may be spoilers for earlier books.
For those unfamiliar with the series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians follows Percy, a seemingly ordinary kid who discovers he’s the son of Poseidon, one of the Greek gods. As a demigod, Percy is constantly pulled into dangerous quests, battling monsters, encountering gods, and trying to prevent the world from descending into chaos. The original series spanned five books, beginning with The Lightning Thief and concluding with The Last Olympian, chronicling Percy’s journey from an unsure kid to a hero who plays a key role in saving Olympus.
This reboot series, “The Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Senior Year Adventures,” picks up with Percy in his final year of high school. His latest challenge? Getting three divine recommendation letters so he can attend New Rome University with Annabeth. Because, apparently, even demigods can’t escape the stress of college applications.
Percy is once again on a quest to secure his recommendation letters in this instalment. Senior year is stressful enough without needing divine endorsements just to get into college, but that’s exactly where Percy finds himself. After retrieving Ganymede’s chalice in the previous book, he’s one step closer to New Rome University. Now, the goddess Hecate offers him another “opportunity”—all he has to do is pet-sit her enormous, slightly terrifying mastiff, Hecuba, and her devious polecat, Gale, for a week. Easy, right?

The Star Wars saga has always been a tale of light versus dark, a cosmic struggle between good and evil. One of the most poignant and tragic arcs within this epic narrative is the fall of Ben Solo, who ultimately becomes the formidable Kylo Ren. Behind the ominous mask and scarlet lightsaber lies the shattered legacy of Ben Solo, a story deeply intertwined with the choices made by his uncle and mentor, Luke Skywalker. The legendary hero of the original trilogy followed in the footsteps of his own Jedi Master: Obi-Wan Kenobi, whose own failure with his apprentice led to the creation of Darth Vater. In this essay, we delve into the intricate web of choices, doubts, and familial pressure that contributed to Luke's failure to prevent Ben's plunge into the dark abyss.
The seeds of Kylo Ren's fall were sown long before his actual transformation. Luke Skywalker, grappling with the immense legacy of the Skywalker name and the burden of being a mentor, unwittingly laid the groundwork for Ben's descent. The weight of being a Skywalker, a name synonymous with heroism and destiny, cast a looming shadow over Ben, who struggled to live up to the expectations placed upon him. Both Luke and Ben made choices that shaped their destinies, often influenced by the spectre of the Skywalker name. Luke's momentary impulse to eliminate the perceived threat in his nephew and later, his decision to cut himself off from the Force, showcased the depth of his internal turmoil. At the heart of Kylo Ren's descent is the fragile foundation on which his Jedi training rested. As the last hope of the Skywalker lineage, Ben Solo bore the weight of immense expectations. Luke, recognizing the potential for darkness within him, attempted to guide and train his nephew. However, the seeds of doubt were sown early as Luke glimpsed a darkness within Ben that mirrored the struggles of his father, Anakin Skywalker.
Luke's momentary lapse of judgment played a pivotal role in Ben's transformation. The fleeting thought of ending the darkness within his nephew, triggered by a vision of potential destruction, marked a critical turning point. This moment of weakness, compounded by Luke's own doubts and fear, set in motion a chain of events that would prove disastrous for both mentor and apprentice. The turning point in Ben's journey occurred in a moment of profound weakness on Luke's part. Fueled by his fear and apprehension, Luke momentarily considered extinguishing the rising darkness within Ben before it consumed him completely. Olivie Blake’s best-selling series “The Atlas Series” has taken the social media world by storm. This dark academic series was first self-published and quickly blew up on TikTok. It was seen everywhere and was, at one point, difficult to find in stores. I have recently completed reading the series and have thoughts about it.
So, let’s take a few minutes to talk about this series and find out if it does live up to the hype.
The series opens with The Atlas Six. The Alexandrian Society, guardians of the greatest lost knowledge from ancient civilizations, is the world’s most exclusive secret society of magical scholars. Membership guarantees unimaginable wealth, power, and prestige—but only six extraordinary magicians are chosen every decade to compete for initiation.
This decade’s candidates are:
• Libby Rhodes and Nico de Varona, polar opposites yet inextricably linked, with unmatched control over the elements of physical reality.
• Reina Mori, a naturalist able to commune with life itself.
• Parisa Kamali, a telepath who delves into the hidden recesses of the human mind.
• Callum Nova, an empath whose power to manipulate emotions borders on illusion.
• Tristan Caine, gifted with the rare ability to unravel illusions and glimpse hidden truths about reality.
Recruited by the enigmatic Atlas Blakely, the six are given a year to prove their worth. They’ll gain provisional access to the Society’s priceless archives and will be evaluated on their contributions to solving the impossible: mastering time, space, thought, life, death, and more. But only five will be initiated. One will be eliminated. As alliances form and rivalries intensify, survival becomes a test of skill, ambition, and the willingness to confront unimaginable truths. In the end, most of them will succeed. But not all.
The Atlas Six is a promising start to the series. This first book in the series is a masterful dark academia novel that weaves together magic, ambition, and the sinister consequences of knowledge. The story follows six individuals with unique magical abilities, each invited to join the elite Alexandrian Society for a two-year trial period. At the end of this time, five will be initiated into the Society, while one will be cast out—or so they’re told. The premise alone is captivating, and the book’s immersive atmosphere makes it one to savour rather than rush through. Despite its relatively short length, it demands full attention, rewarding readers who take the time to absorb its intricacies. The layered world-building and shifting dynamics between characters create a sense of mystery that keeps you guessing. Who can be trusted? Whose perspective is reliable? With multiple points of view, the narrative gives a sense that everyone is hiding something, and ambition may outweigh morality.
The cast of characters is richly diverse, both in abilities and backgrounds, offering an intriguing blend of perspectives. The goal seems straightforward: harness their potential and discover the full extent of their powers. But as the story unfolds, it becomes clear that nothing is as it seems. Beneath the surface lies a darker truth, and the quest for knowledge becomes a dangerous game where trust is a luxury none can afford. Each character has a moment to shine, showcasing their abilities and motivations. However, the balance between perspectives is occasionally uneven. While some characters are richly developed, with compelling arcs that reveal their inner conflicts, others feel less fleshed out.
