I heard these two words across the room
Have you ever been at a noisy party and all of sudden you heard something said that caught your attention? We all have. In my case, these two words were a really big dream I’d had for many years. And because I heard them from a conversation on the other side of the room, I achieved that dream.
This story came up at dinner the other night and it reminded me of how important matching your message to your market is.

2 Beautiful Customer Experiences & An Ugly One
Last week my smoking’ hot wife, Kay, and I had the need to reach out for help from three different vendors. Two were excellent examples of how to help a customer and one was a dismal failure.
Besides being examples of what and what not to do, these are great reminders of how quickly your relationship and your brand can be torpedoed by both slow support response, but also insincere response.

My Favorite Marketing Tool
When was the last time you received a greeting card in the mail and didn’t bother to open it? Odds are your answer is “Never.”
That’s the thing about greeting cards. We always want to know who sent us a card and what does it look like? That’s why my all-time, overall, favorite marketing tool is a custom-designed, personalized greeting card.
Are you using these to promote your business, say thanks to someone, or communicate with your customers and prospects? You should, and that’s the topic of this week’s Uncopyable Business episode. I’ll explain why they’re such a powerful too and share how we produce them.

R.I.P. Herb Kelleher
As you can imagine, my list of heroes is mostly made up of mavericks — ex: Walt Disney, Mel Brooks, Stan Freberg, Leonardo DaVinci…
These are people who simply didn’t allow unwritten “rules” to direct them. Most them, like Steve Jobs, wrote their own rules of competition.
Herb Kelleher is near the top of my list. He was Uncopyable. He epitomized the word “maverick,” and the tales of his guiding Southwest Airlines to being the most profitable airline in the world are legendary . (If you haven’t heard about it, google “Malice in Dallas” and learn how Kelleher was the bellwether of promotion.)
Also be sure to watch this week’s UNCOPYABLE Business episode where I share three things about Herb I liked the most! I wish I’d sent him a copy of my book.
I wrote about a great experience I had on Southwest Airlines in my book, UNCOPYABLE: How to Create and Unfair Advantage Over Your Competition. It’s on page 89 for those of you who have my book.

If you do this for your customers, they’ll stay forever
Our first objective in business is to create a customer. Our second objective is then to keep that customer for as long as possible.
Easier said than done, of course. But, in fact, there if you can answer this ONE question for each and every one of your customers, they will stick with you for life!
What’s that one question? Watch this week’s Uncopyable Business Episode and find out! (It’s only 03:12 long.)

“A meaningful experience in a physical space”
According to Robert Sindelar, managing partner of Third Place Books, success in brick and mortar retail these days “is about meaningful experience in a physical space.”

Can You Zig When You Did The Zagging?
I first noticed this when Starbucks introduced a major pivot in their offerings. Then last week I discovered Amazon slipped in a very interesting and similar twist to their shipping services.
Is it possible for smaller businesses to learn from these behemoths and adapt this twist? I think so.
Watch this week’s UNCOPYABLE Business episode and learn exactly what this spin is!

Why is Uncopyable so cheap right now? (Only Jeff Bezos knows for sure)
Posted on December 4, 2018
——
As you probably know, Steve’s book, Uncopyable – How to Create an Unfair Advantage Over Your Competition, is available on Amazon. Steve and I keep an eye on the Amazon sales rank and price of Amazon on a pretty regular basis. Almost two years from the publication date, the book has proven staying power. Uncopyable reached #1 Best Seller status early in 2018, which we celebrated with glee. (Seriously, when the book hit #1, you should have seen Steve and I, jumping up and down with reckless abandon! Any jumping is EXTREMELY reckless at our age.)
The sales rank is pretty straightforward. There are three categories that are most applicable to the content. The ranking numbers for each category are posted under the book. The numbers fluctuate. We get it.
Here’s what we don’t get: the price. It fluctuates, too. We don’t know how and why. Amazon calculates the price based on data, algorithms and perhaps insights from their crystal balls (aka SPHERES). The method is hidden behind an Oz-like curtain.
If I could, I’d ask Jeff Bezos to explain, because he may be the only one who knows for sure. I’m reminded of the old Clairol tag line, “Only her hairdresser knows for sure.” (Watch their 1957 commercial if you have any question about the progress women have made over the last 60 years).
It doesn’t matter to us, since we get paid the same no matter what. As near as we can tell, when sales go up, the price goes down. But it matters to you. Yes, we have a Holiday special: Buy 6 or more copies – Steve will autograph them (adding priceless value) and we’ll charge you just $17.50 each. We’ve had some smart marketers jump on this deal so they can give their customers a calorie-free gift they’ll actually use! (Email me and I’ll hook you up!)
If you haven’t purchased the book and just want a single copy, or know someone who hasn’t yet bought one, as of this moment the book is only $14.31. The deal won’t get any better than this. Go buy it!
Or it might. Only Jeff Bezos knows for sure.
