Review: YOU BELONG TO ME by Mary Higgins Clark
A discussion of a woman’s strangedisappearance on live radio creates a ripple, exposing hidden truths. It beginswith a woman calling in about her whirlwind romance on a cruise, the man shemet, and the ring he gave her inscribed with the words: “You Belong to Me.”
After the radio show, the victim’smother recalled the same ring found in her daughter’s possession. The ring wasthe key! But what happens when a sadistic charmer refuses to let anyone findout about him? The results could be deadly. And this man will not stop preyingon lonely women at sea. In fact, he will kill anybody that might get in his way(and he does.)
Once again, MHC has created aneasy and captivating read right from the start. It’s a great mystery! Clark hasa way of naturally drawing in the read. And even though the predictability ofthe storyline correctly led me to the right guess, this was still a good read.

Surprisingly—toher and everyone else—Nuala had left everything she owned to Maggie, includingthe house. Why was everyone so interested in getting that house? ExcerptTwo:
“Elizabeth.” My heart leapt as I opened my eyes, and mybreathing stopped for a second. My eyes roamed over his handsome face. His jawwas slightly swollen and bruised, but other than that, his face was untouched. His grey eyes were unusually light from the angle where I sat, and his darkhair was tousled in a way that made me ache to run my fingers through it.
“May I?” He motioned to the bench next to me.
I was still surprised to see him, so I just nodded.
Spencer sat and shifted his body so it was facing mine.“I’ve been looking all over for you. Didn’t you get my calls?”
In my rush to see Aidan, I had left my cell phone at home,so I shook my head no.
Spencer gave me a ghost of a smile and softly chuckled. “Areyou gonna talk to me or just nod your head?”
“I’m sorry. I’m just shocked to see you.” I shifted my bodyso it was facing his.
“After last night, I wanted to make sure you were okay.” Hissoft gaze traveled from my face to the length of my body. When he saw thebruises, his jaw clenched before he frustratingly blew out a breath of air. Hegently lifted my arm to examine it further. I could sense he was trying to reinin his anger. “Did he hurt you anywhere else?”
Spencer reached to place a stray lock of my hair behind myear.
My eyes didn’t leave his. I whispered, “No.”

Review: This book is a quick and easyguide to adulting. It includes tips and ideas for saving money, avoiding creditcards and loans, and budgeting. The read for each item is short and efficient. It doesn’t load you with too much information; it gives you exactly what youneed. The only thing that would’ve been useful to mention would be the freesites on taxes for those that meet the income requirements. One can find thesefree tax sources on the IRS website. In fact, including a list of resources onsome these items would help, too. Other things to help with adulting includedgetting eye glasses, checking the oil on your car, buying a home, making extramoney on the side, planning for retirement, how to improve your credit score, andso on. There’s even a little paragraph on how to do laundry. All the suggestedcleaning seemed a little much, especially for some that work more than one job. There were even some easy recipes here. And a quick brief on miscellaneous tipslike how to sanitize a sponge, how to remove paint from your clothes, and howto get rid of hiccups. Ha, ha! This book was pretty cool. It really is a cheatsheet.
A good reference how-to book forlife.

Thornton, his time sitting down no doubt adding to his confidence, snorted. “Lots of broads work up there, dude. How am I supposed to know . . . ”
I didn’t let him get any farther before I reached out and smacked him open-handed upside the head. I managed to do it in such a way only someone looking close could tell what had happened, meaning it was more a tap than anything. Even so, he reeled back on the bench, about half of his taco staining his blue shirt.
“Adam,” I said, keeping my voice low, “don’t give me any shit, okay? I don’t care how many women, not broads, work in your office. I’m only interested in one, and from what I hear you’re kind of interested in her yourself. Explain why I hear wrong.”
“Okay,” he said. “Now I get it. I heard something about what she’s been going through. You think I’m the one that’s been hassling her?”
“Are you?” I asked.
Actually, I’d already pretty much decided Adam Boy was a dead end. He was the kind of guy who back in the seventies would have been called a lounge lizard: tough and manly on the outside, a child on the inside.
I’d known far too many dudes like him over the years. The muscles, clothes, and general air of confidence were only a blind for a truth he didn’t want to face about himself. Not that such guys couldn’t be dangerous as hell, especially to someone weaker than themselves.

ExcerptThree:
Denida knelt behind Nina and rubbed her shoulders.
Nina sipped a drink, while watching her horse, Angel, grazing next to them on the outskirts of the forest near Dynasty. She squintedwith a tranquil smile. “More to the left.” She rested the glass on her lap andhunched forward.
Denida focused on her other side.
“Ouch,” she hissed. “Not so hard.”
Crap, she’s not enjoying this. I shouldn’t have tried…Denida retracted his hands. “Sorry.”
Nina glared at him, put the glass on the ground, and restedon her stomach. “Maybe you can try now, unless you’re deliberately trying todisappoint me?”
“Of course not,” Denida insisted.
Nina smiled. “Good.”
Denida resumed rubbing Nina’s back until she turned over, took Denida’s hand, and stroked it. “This is nice.”
Denida leaned in close and kissed her. She folded her armsaround him and pulled him close.
Angel moseyed farther away. He grazed until dusk, when Ninawhistled for him, and he returned to them.
With Angel close again, Nina rested her head on Denida’schest, stroking his hair. “We should spend more time together, like this, justus.”
“I always want to. Work has just been extremely busy, lately.”
“Maybe…” Nina’s fingers trailed down Denida’s chest, next toher head, and she fell into a slumber under the sunset’s orange glow.

GUEST POST
There’s an important scene in The Silvery Path thatallows the reader to understand the full extent of Henna’s manipulation, andget a firm, firsthand experience of how her power works. She visits a pair oftwins in the past to try to figure out how to best use them in order to bringabout her revenge plot and successfully manipulate Denida, so that he falls inline with her prophecy.
The reason this scene is so important is that it shows howHenna started intervening to bring about her prophecy before she evenintroduced herself to the chosen one who’s supposed to bring about her desiredfuture. This is the first scene that really showcases how she’s been playingthe long game with the characters you’ve seen throughout the Underworlds, whilealso showcasing that some fundamental beliefs you, the reader, have beenpresented with are lies that Henna put forth to make Denida more cooperative.
During her intervention with the twins, she identifies whichone is most receptive to her presence and makes a remark about which future isstarting to take shape. By that point, the reader was already informed thatfate is like a tree, which branches off into different outcomes based on theway events are shaping up, but this is the first time the reader sees that inpractice and gets a look at how Henna’s able to adapt and plan based on the wayevents are unfolding. It’s heavily implied that the twin that is receptive toher is not the one she thought it would be, but she still takes this change instride and puts her plan in motion regardless of the unexpected outcome.
The reason this passage is so impactful is not just becauseit gives the reader their first firsthand (as opposed to third-party) experiencewith seeing Henna’s ability to plan ahead and play the long game, but it alsoshows just how determined Henna is to manipulate the future in order to bringabout her prophecy. Prior to this moment, the reader could guess that Hennaprobably had a reason to empower Shaddai instead of Azal for a reason in myprevious book, Rejecting Destiny. The reader could also guess that Hennahad a reason for appearing before Denida for the first time when she did in RejectingDestiny, but this scene shows firsthand just how Henna manipulated Denidafrom afar for a long time, and shows how truly formidable she is as an adaptivevillain even into The Silvery Path, where her manipulation only getsmore severe.
