ExcerptThree:

Denida knelt behind Nina and rubbed her shoulders.

Nina sipped a drink, while watching her horse, Angel, grazing next to them on the outskirts of the forest near Dynasty. She squintedwith a tranquil smile. “More to the left.” She rested the glass on her lap andhunched forward.

Denida focused on her other side.

“Ouch,” she hissed. “Not so hard.”

Crap, she’s not enjoying this. I shouldn’t have tried…Denida retracted his hands. “Sorry.”

Nina glared at him, put the glass on the ground, and restedon her stomach. “Maybe you can try now, unless you’re deliberately trying todisappoint me?”

“Of course not,” Denida insisted.

Nina smiled. “Good.”

Denida resumed rubbing Nina’s back until she turned over, took Denida’s hand, and stroked it. “This is nice.”

Denida leaned in close and kissed her. She folded her armsaround him and pulled him close.

Angel moseyed farther away. He grazed until dusk, when Ninawhistled for him, and he returned to them.

With Angel close again, Nina rested her head on Denida’schest, stroking his hair. “We should spend more time together, like this, justus.”

“I always want to. Work has just been extremely busy, lately.”

“Maybe…” Nina’s fingers trailed down Denida’s chest, next toher head, and she fell into a slumber under the sunset’s orange glow.

 GUEST POST

There’s an important scene in The Silvery Path thatallows the reader to understand the full extent of Henna’s manipulation, andget a firm, firsthand experience of how her power works. She visits a pair oftwins in the past to try to figure out how to best use them in order to bringabout her revenge plot and successfully manipulate Denida, so that he falls inline with her prophecy.

The reason this scene is so important is that it shows howHenna started intervening to bring about her prophecy before she evenintroduced herself to the chosen one who’s supposed to bring about her desiredfuture. This is the first scene that really showcases how she’s been playingthe long game with the characters you’ve seen throughout the Underworlds, whilealso showcasing that some fundamental beliefs you, the reader, have beenpresented with are lies that Henna put forth to make Denida more cooperative.

During her intervention with the twins, she identifies whichone is most receptive to her presence and makes a remark about which future isstarting to take shape. By that point, the reader was already informed thatfate is like a tree, which branches off into different outcomes based on theway events are shaping up, but this is the first time the reader sees that inpractice and gets a look at how Henna’s able to adapt and plan based on the wayevents are unfolding. It’s heavily implied that the twin that is receptive toher is not the one she thought it would be, but she still takes this change instride and puts her plan in motion regardless of the unexpected outcome.

The reason this passage is so impactful is not just becauseit gives the reader their first firsthand (as opposed to third-party) experiencewith seeing Henna’s ability to plan ahead and play the long game, but it alsoshows just how determined Henna is to manipulate the future in order to bringabout her prophecy. Prior to this moment, the reader could guess that Hennaprobably had a reason to empower Shaddai instead of Azal for a reason in myprevious book, Rejecting Destiny. The reader could also guess that Hennahad a reason for appearing before Denida for the first time when she did in RejectingDestiny, but this scene shows firsthand just how Henna manipulated Denidafrom afar for a long time, and shows how truly formidable she is as an adaptivevillain even into The Silvery Path, where her manipulation only getsmore severe.

Wringabout myself… oh, the horror!

Asa Christmas Child, I believe magic is everywhere, especially during the winter, and I try to weave that magic into my stories. After all, my firm belief inkarma and destiny has shaped who I am, so it should guide my stories, as well.

Iwas born and raised in Denmark, but faced many challenges during my life, oneof which was my inability to write my stories in Danish! I’ve had my storiesbrewing in my head since I was a child and struggled for years to express themproperly. After recovering from a diabetic attack that left me hospitalized, Imanaged to find my writer’s voice in English, and am thrilled to now have theability to share my tales with you.
