BLURB:

Threenephews and three eccentric uncles.

---------

It’s2050 and Robbie Elders has all but forgotten about his oddball, religiousfanatic uncle, tim tim. He’s taken up the latest fad, genealogical researchbased solely on DNA. But Robbie’s “inconclusive” DNA results are unsettling. Hecrashes back to his childhood, back to his world of comic books and tim tim.

“Iopt for posh and London” declares Lady Florence Stour. It’s 2019 and time for aRoyal Wedding. Robbie’s uncle, Stef, is engaged to Lady Florence, a distantmember of the British royal family. Stef’s Baltimore clan have been invited,but Robbie’s mom and dad can’t attend. They’ve entrusted Robbie and bigbrother, Doyle, to their mom’s two eccentric brothers, uncles Roy and Roland.Roy, a weathered waterman with a severe Baltimore accent, lives for Marylandblue crabs. Roland, a mildly hypochondriacal actor, lives to survive the Karenshe unavoidably encounters. And then there’s Desales, Roy’s smart aleck, teenageson. He lives to prank. They’ve descended upon London. What could possibly gowrong?

Meanwhile,tim tim has been coaching Robbie on “the mission.” A silly religious fantasyaccording to Robbie’s atheist parents and the therapists. Or perhaps not?Things are not always as they appear in The Big Comb Over.

ExcerptTwo:

“Thanks, bud! So, how has your travel thing worked out? Youhad said you were doing, like, covered bridge destinations?”

“Well, yes. I started with that because, you know, a lot ofpeople really connect with covered bridges. There’s a peacefulness.  A return to simpler times and virtues. A lotof people like that.”

“Sounds nice.”

“But I’m not the only agent with that idea. There areactually a lot of travel consultants doing covered bridges. Old railroad linesare also big these days. Anyway, I upped the ante. I’m now working in acousticsound barriers.”

Chris saw Roland’s puzzled look.

“Okay. So, it’s interesting. You know you drive along theBeltway or other highways and see they’ve put up all those sound barrier walls,right? That way it’s not so noisy for the people in their houses. The walls areall prefabricated and look about the same. But I noticed, every now and then,they stick a door in one. I always wondered why. I learned that it’s so thatthe highway people can get access for maintenance or to get to fire hydrants orwhat have you.”

“Yes?”

“So, I had been curious about that and thought, ‘You know,if I’m curious about that, other people will be too.’”

“Okay.”

“So, I surveilled various sound walls throughout thestate—mostly around Baltimore—and made a list of the most interesting ones withdoors. Some of them have been around like twenty years, so they have, like, ahighway patina. A lot of them have plants and vines growing around them,randomly, but sometimes in very beautiful ways. So I reached out to some of thefolks whose homes are affected to get a tour, as it were. The coolest thing isthe ‘before and after.’ You know, you listen first with the door open. At peaktimes the noise is unbelievable. But once you close that door, there is animmediate calm. Much more peaceful. Very Zen. And like I said, the naturallyoccurring flora and fauna are quite amazing. Besides the plants, there werethings like rodents and birds nesting near the doors. Some right on the wallsabove the doors. You could tell because of all the droppings.”

Roland blinked twice.

In this final chapter, Ron's story concludes from Reflections on the Boulevard (2023). Michael's wish was for Ron to exile himself in the heart of Paris with its beautiful culture and citizens as they protest and fight for the soul of the city. Ron's journey is met with life-affirming friendships and lessons along the way. The final book in the Reflections of Michael Trilogy, which started with A Reservoir Man (2022).

Read an Excerpt

Ron, weak in the legs from forgetting the spirit of his youth, had been managing bookstores more than living life. His legs pumped forward. but with the awkwardness of an old man who had forgotten how to walk. In a few seconds he was up to speed and ran faster to catch the thief.

Near the corner, Ron had missed his opportunity to slow and check for other people walking, so he slammed into a group of women. He especially blasted into an old lady whose groceries flew into the sky, and a yogurt splattered against a wall and the faces of the other women. She turned to condemn her assailant, but he was already on the next block in pursuit of the thief.

He spotted the thief at the Notre Dame Hotel, out of breath, leaning against a pillar. Surprised at the thief’s choice to stop here, he slowed down and let his feet pound the street into a halt.

Ron grabbed at him but still missed his shoulder.

“Give me the book back!” he said, very loudly.

The thief just shrugged his shoulder, a mocking smile. His smile made the act of chasing him through the streets feel silly, as if this were a game that had been played and he took it too seriously.

The thief looked at Ron and asked, sarcastically, “What language are you speaking?”

“What do you mean? I am speaking French!”

Our thief laughed, turned to a random man who walked down the street, and said, "This young man thinks he is speaking French Go ahead say something to this stranger; he will tell you are speaking some other language other than French!”

“I will call the police,” Ron said firmly.

Butwith her parents pursuing her and Mike fiercely against her relationship withValen, can their unexpected engagement last beyond the bus tour?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ExcerptTwo:
“It’s just so weird hearing from her after all this time. Ithought she’d cut all contact, like Daisy.”
Electra sighed.
“I think they were worried Mum and Dad would force us totell them where they were. You know they’d have taken it out on us if we’drefused to show them our phones.”
“They did that anyway.”
Starla had been much younger when Daisy and Juno had left,but she remembered very clearly how her parents had reacted. Her father hadscreamed at them for hours. Her mother had taken her belt to them. She hadn’tresented it at the time—she’d just been glad her sisters were out of it, eventhough she had missed them terribly.
Electra leaving, on the other hand—that had been worse. Andas Electra looked at her, she had a feeling her sister was realising it.
“What happened to you after I left? Anything?”
“Well, I was the only one left. So yeah.”
“What?”
In response, Starla pulled up her sleeve to reveal a large,partially healed burn scar on her forearm.
“They held the iron down on me.”
A dark expression crossed Electra’s face.
“Did they take you to hospital after?”
“No. I went by myself. Pretended it was an accident. I don’tthink they believed me.”
“That’s what we do, isn’t it?” Electra shook her head. “WhenAaron noticed my scars, I just told him I was clumsy as a kid. That’s how theygot away with it. Nobody ever tells the truth about it.”
Starla’s answer was cut off by the door flying open,revealing Valen standing there with an expression somewhere between shock anddisgust.
Review: JUST ONE NIGHT by Kyra Davis
For just one night, studious and conservative Kasey becomes a sultry vixen. For just one night, she has hot sex with a random stranger. It was just supposed to just one night. The dream would end and then it was back to reality. But then the dream smacks into her reality and ends up being a new client for her corporate job.
He continues to lure and seduce her, but she’s adamant in her stance and in her relationship with her boyfriend. A passionate affair begins.
The words were softly poetic—so deeply meaningful and cleverly expressed. In the prose, we see the conflicting emotions of a woman torn between love and lust, between passion and practicality, between her boyfriend and her lover.
“Dave sees the aspiration of what I want to be while Mr. Dade sees the woman I’ve been running from.”
“Pride and shame smash into each other, causing an avalanche of less comprehensible emotions.”
When she finally decides to break-up with Dave, she gets the most surprising and the most public proposal. Man, I hate that. What could you say with everyone just watching you? You have to say “yes.” What happens when the truth finally comes out? What Kasie returns to in Dave was certainly cold, mean, and degrading. In exchange for his silence, she goes back to her prison to be kept, to be controlled, to be punished. The character brings up such great examples of being ostracized from work, family, friends, and community, which was why she does whatever Dave wanted. Dave was humiliating and torturing her. No way would I put up with that. I would rather have nothing and the whole truth out than be bullied by him. But Kasey wasn’t that strong.
“Do I really value my bruised and battered pride over my freedom?”
Writing is so deep and smart. It’s so pensive and philosophical. I like when she finally gets that fire in her belly and becomes the warrior that can win her way—not his way. Kasey is a woman that unleashes her primal sexuality, forceful nature, and utter power.
Surprisingly and insatiably addicting! Full of lust and power. You just can’t get enough of it. Just one night is not enough. You want more.
Review: ROMANTIC SECRETS by Monique DuBois
“The wrong person at the wrongtime, mistaken for her roommate by a crazy stalker.” It was a good opening,right?
Her cousin’s last FB post wasabout her getting into the escort service, which intrigued our main heroine,Abby, because she too enjoyed nameless, faceless sex. And to get paid for it?Abby immediately books her first escort gig with a handsome billionaire. Not abad way to get paid. Unfortunately, the first night didn’t go as planned andAbby gets fired. Fortunately, she finds instant success as a top realtor inManhattan.
Story does take a while to explainthings. When do we get to the romance and suspense? There was too muchdilly-dally. We honestly don’t get some action until like 90% into the book.Geez, what a rip! What a disappointment!
Excerpt One:
Waking up in mysix-by-eight cell this morning, I wasn’t sure if I’d have the balls to gothrough with it.
But witheverything to gain and nothing to lose, I’d be a fool to pass up the one chanceI have at freedom.
Strategy,patience, and timing are everything. There are always eyes watching, especiallywhen you’re a convicted murderer.
* * *
The bell chimesfor chow-time, but I stay in my bunk. It’s all part of the plan. A couple ofbulls stroll past my door and casually glance at me, then continue on down thecell block.
I close my eyesand drift into the safe rooms of my mind. I’ve had this interesting riffplaying on a loop in my head for weeks. I grin and tap my fingers on my chest.
The only rhythmin this soul-sucking institution is the hum of electricity that seeps from theindustrial lighting overhead.
A sudden painstabs my eyelids. In the arid chill of my cell, the headaches coupled withnosebleeds are a welcoming reminder that I can still feel.
I turn to thebrick wall and use my imagination to draw another line, marking another dayspent in this hell hole. I’ve managed to survive two years and a month towardmy life sentence. Keeping track of time is like throwing stones into abottomless pit and waiting to hear them hit bottom – they never do. Still, Irefuse to accept that I’ll live out my days in this institution, watching mybody rot and my soul be slowly absorbed into the cold cement walls to join thepoor bastards who’ve succumbed before me.
I’ve only gotone hat-trick. A one-off scheme that others have tried and failed atrepeatedly. But I’m nothing like my fellow inmates. Granted, I butchered threepeople and left a hell of a mess – too sloppy. I was careless and mademistakes. But for the most part I’ve navigated life with logic and forethought;the same approach I’ll be using to execute my plan.
Blog Tour: I THINK IT MIGHT RAIN by Rick Marchand
This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Rick Marchand will award a $15 Amazon/BN gift card to a randomly drawn winner via Rafflecopter. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.
Meet Bartholomew, a curious, kind and sweet third grader. One day, Bartholomew wakes up and is convinced he sees a black cloud forming in the clear blue sky. "I think it might rain," he proclaims. But what happens when his family, friends, and classmates don't believe him? Will he be able to stand up to the bullies who call him names? Will he hold firm in his beliefs?
Read an Excerpt
As the sun beamed brightly through his bedroom window, Bartholomew pulled on his tee shirt – the one with his favourite Pokémon design. As his head popped out, he noticed a small black spot far in the distance. That doesn’t look good, he thought.
Grabbing quickly for his telescope, he pointed, focused the lens, and peered out through its long-extended tube to see just what the small black spot might be.
His imagination scaring him a little, he thought out loud: “Could be an assault helicopter? Maybe even a stealth bomber? Are we being attacked by aliens?”
Bartholomew raised the telescope. Refocusing the lens, he decided to have another look. What if it’s just one of those huge hot air balloons?
Straightening back up, scratching his head, a puzzled look now on his face, he thought, No way; I’ve never seen one of those around here.
Taking one last look, squinting as he focused out towards the black dot, “I GOT IT!!” he yelled out, loud and proud. “That’s a storm cloud and it’s heading our way. I think it might rain!!!”
Review: What’s that in the sky? Wild ideaskept running through Bart’s head at the black speck he saw. Then it hits himthat it might rain. It’s a charming version of Chicken Little.
The illustrations were so colorfuland lively. I just loved the animated movements and humorous expressions. Iwould’ve liked some of the text to be a little more readable. What made itharder to read on some of them was the small size and the colored backgrounds.But other than that, I thought this was a delight.
A cute, little story!
The refereeblows her whistle and points to the Joseph Johnston High School goal. It’s afoul, just outside the penalty area. Hastily, several defenders form a wall.Liam Larsen, the goalkeeper, shouts directions.
“Block thatkick, block that kick,” the Johnston cheerleaders yell.
 GUEST POST
CROSSING DAY, The Characters
William A. Glass
My new novel, Crossing Day, features a large cast ofcolorful characters. You could divide them into three categories: the good, thebad, and the ugly.
In the latter group, you have Lieutenant Ferguson and AgentBoyce. They’re Nazis and prove that ugliness, like beauty, lies within. Overthe course of the story our contempt for Boyce grows. He’s ignorant, violent,self-centered, and lazy. He and Ferguson both work for the Confederate NaziSecurity Service. In the beginning Ferguson is a cold-blooded cop, confidentand self-assured. But as his frustration mounts, Ferguson loses his composure. TheSecurity Service is the most feared entity in the Confederacy. Ferguson is notaccustomed to being fooled with. He likes to terrorize people and have his way.Imagine his emotions when a high-school-age boy makes a fool of him time andagain. Ferguson becomes obsessed and as the story nears its climax, he loseshis grip on reality.
Then there’s the bad actors. Most of the bad folks in CrossingDay aren’t evildoers. They’re mainly guilty of complicity in a sick system.They were born into a slave-holding country, enjoy being waited on hand andfoot, and while in the back of their minds they may suspect there is somethingwrong with the system, those thoughts are quickly banished. Mayor Montgomery isa character who exemplifies complacency in the face of evil. As the town’smayor, he cannot afford to question slavery. It’s the backbone of the economy.Anyone who challenges it is branded an abolitionist and put in a camp. At theoutset we find Montgomery playing the role of devoted family man. As thepatriarch, he presides over the dinner table, dispensing wisdom. Whennecessary, he lays down the law. On holidays he takes the family boating.However, the mayor’s demeanor changes as his oldest daughter becomes more rebellious.He fears she will be branded a dissident by the Security Service with direrepercussions for him.  Under pressure theMayor’s personality disintegrates. His alcohol consumption goes up as hisbehavior goes down. Will this family man throw his daughter under the bus?
Now that we’ve talked about some of the ugly and badcharacters in Crossing Day, let’s talk about Ryan Walters and hisfriends who attend high school in Alabama. They’re the good guys. As the storyopens, they are engaged in a favorite activity – soccer. Later we find that whennot playing sports, they like to share videos, text with friends, share videos,and hang out. Like the bad characters, they don’t question slavery at first. Itseems normal.
That changes when a event occurs that opens their eyes tothe depravity of chattel slavery. Suddenly a veil is lifted from their eyes.Looking around they see their teachers, coaches, and parents in a new,unflattering light. Now in rebellion against the system, the teenagers findthemselves in grave danger. As they seek to evade the consequences, a series ofmisadventures ensues. This makes it necessary for Ryan and his friends to growup fast. They become resourceful, resilient, and find strength within themselvesthey never knew existed. Through their own innate decency, they avoid thecomplacency of their parents and rise above their upbringing.
