January 2019- New Year, New YOU! Make Your Intentions a Reality!

New Year, New You


A lot of people begin the New Year by making resolutions. We’ve all been there. We take a vow to lose weight, exercise more or spend more time with our family. We start the year with great intentions, but then we quickly relapse into old habits. Why is it so hard to stick to those New Year’s resolutions?


Here are some ways you can make your intentions a reality this year:



Write down your intentions and keep them in a visible place, like taped to your bedroom mirror or the dashboard of your car.
Get to the source of whatever is keeping you in a rut. Are you in a stressful relationship that causes you to eat a pint of Ben & Jerry’s every night? Are you stressed at your job and feel too tired to exercise after work? If you don’t tackle the root of the behavior, it will be much harder to accomplish your goal.  Breakthrough coaching can help you find root causes and eliminate them using NLP, Hypnosis, Time Line Therapy, & Emotion Code Energy Healing…
Be clear about what your life would look like once you achieve your goal. If you resolve to go to the gym more, how will this benefit you? Get connected to the result of your action, and you will be more likely to stick with your plan.
Share your resolutions with friends and family. Hold each other accountable for achieving your goals. If you want to go to the gym more, have a friend call you two or three times a week to check on you or invite them to join you.
Reward yourself with every little accomplishment. If your intention is to lose weight and you lose 1 pound a week, pamper yourself with a massage, get a pedicure, a bubble bath and listen to a great guided meditation.

Big changes do not require big leaps. Permanent change is more likely to happen gradually than through one big restrictive plan. Allow yourself to climb the ladder one rung at a time.

Food Focus: Sea Vegetables


In traditional Chinese healing, sea vegetables correspond to the winter season and to the kidneys, adrenal glands, bladder and reproductive organs. The strengthening, balancing and cleansing properties of sea vegetables are known to help these organs as well as the hair, skin and nails. Sea vegetables (or seaweeds) provide a variety of minerals and vitamins, including calcium, iron and iodine, and can help balance hormone and thyroid levels in the body. Eating too many processed foods or foods grown in mineral-depleted soil can result in a lack of minerals in the body, leading to cravings for salty or sugary foods. Adding sea vegetables to your diet can help balance your energy levels and alleviate cravings.


Recipe of the Month: Mighty Miso Soup  Prep Time: 5-10 minutes  Cooking Time: 10-15 minutes  Yield: 4-5 servings


Ingredients:


4-5 cups spring water, 1-2 inch strip of wakame, rinsed and soaked 5 minutes in 1 cup of water until softened


1-2 cups thinly sliced vegetables of your choice (see notes)


2-3 teaspoons barley miso


2 scallions, finely chopped


Directions:



Chop soaked wakame.
Discard soaking water or use on houseplants for a boost of minerals.
Place water and wakame in a soup pot and bring to a boil.
Add root vegetables first and simmer gently for 5 minutes or until tender.
Add leafy vegetables and simmer for 2-3 minutes.
Remove about 1/2 cup of liquid from pot and dissolve miso into it. Return it to the pot.
Reduce heat to very low; do not boil or simmer miso broth.
Allow soup to cook 2-3 minutes.
Garnish with scallions and serve.

 Note:  Any combination of vegetables can be used in miso soup. Here are some classic combinations:



onion-daikon: cleansing
onion-carrot-shiitake mushroom-kale: mildly sweet
onion-winter squash-cabbage: great in wintertime
leek-corn-broccoli: great in summertime

Variations:



Add cooked grains at the start of making the soup. They will become nice and soft.
Add a tablespoon of uncooked quinoa or millet at the beginning and let it cook with vegetables for 20 minutes.
Add cubed tofu toward the end.
Add bean sprouts toward the end.
Season with 1/2 teaspoon ginger juice for an interesting twist.
If using dry shiitake mushrooms, let them soak for 20 minutes, slice and add at the beginning.

Day 5 of the 6 Day Transformation Series of 2018-Where to Start?

Here’s a question I hear all the time:

Where do I even start? My pants don’t fit, I know I should exercise more, and I’m tired all the  time. I’m stuck in a rut of eating ice cream before bed. I know I shouldn’t – but I don’t want to give it up! That ice cream is my reward for everything I do all day. I know things have to change, but … I have a million things on my to-do list – I’m busy. 


I totally get why people ask me about this. If you read most advice about how to lose weight, it can feel like you’ll need to do a major life overhaul, never eat out again, and spend your free time chopping up veggies, planning menus, and working out for hours – on top of your already complicated life. It can feel exhausting & tough before you even start.


I’m not going to sugarcoat it for you:


Losing weight, changing your eating, and getting back to a you who feels energetic again does require changes – and effort in multiple areas. Some people grit their teeth, double down on willpower, and make the focus of their lives staying fit and counting calories. They tackle everything at once, live at the gym and in the produce aisle of the grocery story.  It doesn’t have to be this way.


There’s nothing wrong with pursuing health, but here’s the REALITY:


Very few of us have the time or the inclination to make achieving some kind of unattainable perfection with our eating. We have stuff to do!


We’re taught to believe that “weight loss” begins with a rigid food plan and a big new schedule for working out. The truth is, what you really need, to get started the right way, is to build in new comfortable habits that naturally lead you to eat and live in a more healthy way. Our habits are stored in our unconscious mind… wouldn’t it make sense to go there to help make those changes that you want?  To make changes more easily?  Hypnosis can do that!  You may also have trapped emotions that are contributing to stress eating, overeating, cravings for sugar, junk foods, bad carbs etc…The Emotion Code Energy Healing technique can remove those trapped emotions!


You’d probably love a way of eating that fits you, feels natural, and allows you to weigh less – a way of eating that you are happy to continue with forever.  


Big, dramatic lifestyle changes feel, well, big and dramatic. But they get exhausting and overwhelming fast, and they don’t last. A new lifestyle, actually results from new habits, habits you accumulate at a comfortable pace, one step at a time.


My job is not to lead you through another cycle on the yo-yo dieting hamster wheel. It’s to show you how to create new simple habits that work better than overeating, that fit you, and that take away your urges to zone out with food, stress eat, finish a bag of chips you don’t even notice you’re eating, or skip going to the gym for months in a row.


My job is also to help you break the cycle of starting, falling off track, and having to start all over again.

How much longer are you going to wait to let go of the overeating – and the stress, guilt, and shame that probably go with it?

Day 4 of The 6 Day Transformation Series of 2018

Simple Self Care!

Self-care is critical for managing stress, functioning at our best, giving our best, and avoiding the overeating and emotional eating that happens when we turn to food as a substitute for what we really need.


Self-care takes many forms, and when you aren’t getting enough, figuring out how to address your needs can feel overwhelming. The truth is, when you’re stressed or overwhelmed, adding anything to your to-do list feels like total overload.


A simple way to start building your self-care muscle is to commit to a thirty day self-care challenge.


The rule is simple. Do one lovely thing for yourself every day.


As simple as this habit building challenge is, don’t be surprised if it stumps you. If you aren’t used to flexing your self-care muscle, you probably won’t find ideas for do-able ways to treat yourself just rolling out of your brain.


Don’t let this stop you from making the “one lovely thing daily” commitment. Practice and simple steps are just what you need to improve your self-care game.


Here are a few ideas for simple self-care to get you started:

Buy some fresh flowers, or a blooming plant for your desk


Give yourself a pedicure Or go get one done for you


Take a nap


Put on music when you normally wouldn’t


Sing out loud in your car, in the shower or getting dressed in the morning.


Go outside and breathe deep


Spend some extra time petting and cuddling with your pet


Spend some time looking through old pictures


Wear, open, or use that special thing or gift card you’ve been “saving”


Update your playlist by downloading some new music


Sleep on clean sheets


Blow bubbles


Play an instrument


Build a fire


Light a candle


Stretch. Breathe. Stretch some more


Dance


Call a friend – make the time


Make what you want for dinner


Wear something that makes you feel spectacular


Take a bubble bath


Eat on the good china


Go to bed early


Set aside time for that hobby, craft, or activity you haven’t gotten to in months


Finish that book


get a massage

Day 3 of The 6 Day Transformation Series of 2018-Stress & Emotional Eating

The action you’ll be taking today is one that helps with mindless eating and stress and it takes just five minutes.  


You can do this! These small daily actions add up. Each time you practice them, you’re building new self-care muscles,new neurological connections in your mind and creating healthy habits.  Here’s your plan for Session Three – enjoy!


Lower stress and reduce emotional eating: be present

How much of your life do you spend operating (and eating) on autopilot? Its totally unconscious isn’t it?  In a world that encourages us to be constantly plugged in and doing 3, 4 even 5 things at once, slowing down enough to be present can be a challenge – and it’s a skill that is essential to taking control of emotional eating and stress.


Being present, grounded and centered allows us to make choices and to plan and be deliberate.  Being present is what allows us to carefully examine the appetizer tray and decide whether we are hungry and what really looks good.  Assess how you’ll feel after you eat what’s on that tray. 


When we’re stressed or in a rush, we skip that step. Without thinking our hand reaches out, we fill our plate with food, eat it (all) without really tasting, savoring, enjoying it… We don’t register much about the taste, and don’t even think about whether we’re still hungry or whether we’re full until much later.


Avoiding stress and emotional eating – your challenge:

This season, I challenge you to practice slowing down and being present. Make a ritual out of taking five minutes every morning to be present with yourself and to notice.



Notice what’s on your mind. Each day, write down 1 – 3 things that you could do that would relieve the most pressure on your to-do list and set your goal to get those things accomplished.  If your list is 10 things to do – prioritize each item and then notice how you feel after reading through it.  Do you feel overwhelm at 2 items or 4 items?  Cap it to your comfort level.  
Notice how you are feeling. Are you tired? anxious? Sluggish? Excited? If you notice something that could be improved with self-care (such as noticing that you aren’t getting enough sleep or activity), make a plan to start to remedy the situation. This probably isn’t the time to undertake a major life transformation, but you can set the intention of taking a brisk walk on your lunch hour or getting to bed thirty minutes earlier… even listening to a short audio before bed to help with calming the mind and sleep.

Slow down to reduce emotional eating, overeating, and stress

Too often, if we don’t recognize our need for self-care and if we don’t give ourselves permission to slow down, we’ll resort to food and overeating to fill in the gaps.  Being pro-active by allowing yourself some consistent time to slow down will help you take control of stressful situations and minimize emotional eating.

Day 2 – 6 Day Transformation Series of 2018

This transformation series is about learning new ways of thinking and being that ease your stress, add to your enjoyment, and help you nourish yourself in ways that don’t involve food. Tackle these daily challenges and see what happens. 


Today, we’re tackling a topic that’s appropriately seasonal – gratitude. Read on to learn more and be sure to take action. Today is all about giving and receiving!


Noticing and gratitude

It’s an incredibly powerful thing to be seen and acknowledged. Having someone look into your eyes and acknowledge your accomplishments, your efforts, and your intentions (and receiving it) is true food for your soul…


Close your eyes now, take a deep breath in and imagine someone you respect telling you that they see the effort you make.


They might say:


“I see how brave you are.”  “I see how hard you work.”  “I notice the effort you make in doing___________”


Most of us, are doing our best.  Unfortunately, during times of stress or increased demands, it’s easy to get focused on what’s “undone” or less-than-perfect rather than what’s been accomplished.  Creating feelings of overwhelm or even failure…


We have this tendency both with others, and with ourselves. Focusing on the undone doesn’t always serve us well. It can be exhausting, it can be demotivating, it robs us of joy and of noticing our accomplishments, and, of course, it can lead to emotional eating and overeating.


Today’s habit-building challenge to avoid all that stress and emotional eating: notice and share gratitude

The challenge today is to notice the positive and share your gratitude toward someone else – at least three times a day. It doesn’t have to be something major. Simply acknowledge their efforts or their intentions.


“I notice that you set the table and I appreciate it.”“I noticed how hard you were working not to let her frustrate you.”“I notice how you always keep your car spotless. It must take a lot of effort.” ”“I notice that in spite of how busy you are, you made my email a priority and it really helped me out.”  Thank you!


I think you will be amazed at how far a little noticing goes. When you acknowledge someone, the impact reverberates. It’s contagious. It lightens the mood and creates a focus on the positive and on possibility. It absolutely reduces stress.


Noticing and receiving gratitude

This part of the challenge might be more difficult, but you deserve some noticing and gratitude too. Your challenge is to notice (and write down) three things that you notice and feel good about, about yourself each day.  I often get clients to ask themselves at the end of the day – What went well today?  


Both parts of the challenge are important. Giving and receiving are both nourishing.

Welcome to the 6 day Transformation Series! 2018

Over the next few days, I’m going to walk you through a series of simple steps that you can use to create habits that help, both with stress, and overeating. The goal is to overcome holiday stress and emotional eating challenges, and creating new healthy habits into the New Year!


This challenge is about simple steps – actions and new habits that can have an immediate impact – that feel good. Each week, I’ll be sending you emails, each containing one action step – one new, do-able habit to put into place. Our goal is to enjoy this final phase of the year, and any holiday experiences you are looking forward to, while you put some great new habits into place.


Savoring

This weeks challenge is all about making sure you squeeze every last drop of enjoyment out of the weeks ahead. There’s a single action step for you at the end – Today’s habit-building challenge for avoiding holiday overwhelm and emotional eating is about savoring. Savoring is often the variable that makes the difference between a wonderful, yummy experience and overindulgence that leaves us unsatisfied, overfull, and frustrated.


When we’re savoring, whether it is savoring family, music or time with people we love, or the special homemade holiday goodies, we are nourishing ourselves. When we aren’t tuned in to savor (because we’re stressed, overwhelmed or multitasking), then we’re just taking in. We’ve shut off the full-sensory pleasure valve (or we’re numb to it).


When we indulge without savoring, we don’t fully taste or enjoy. We tend to keep going past the point of fullness. Whether it’s food or shopping, drinks or Netflix, we’re much more likely to end up tired, worn out, and with a sugar hangover.


Avoiding stress and overeating

Get your schedule and put these must-do experiences on your calendar. Don’t just count on them to happen naturally.


Take time to consider each must on your list, whether it’s an event or a treat you want to fully enjoy. Consider – now – how you can be fully present for these experiences and really savor them.


What will it take to savor your “musts”? Will it require blocking out more time so you don’t have to rush? Planning something in advance? Anger, Sadness, Fear… The Untold truth They Don’t Want You to Know

You’ve been told that once you have anger, there is nothing you could do, but maybe anger management. But that alone is a double edge sword, so using this may help…


You may be one of those people who have experienced anger outbursts in the past…. Everything seems to be fine and all of a sudden you get angry and blow up. Or maybe you’re feeling resentment towards a certain person or situation… or maybe you are in a set of circumstances and you’re irritated, but you have it pretty well under control and you put on a polite smile and a socially acceptable behavior BUT ….all of a sudden it comes out! It blurts out of you without your conscious control.


Afterwards you feel guilty, or angry with yourself – Why did I do that? What’s the point? I could have handled it differently? What just happened?


The time frame from totally in control until everything blurts out in an uncontrollable negative emotion, is far too short! It is an instant!


Being free from your negative emotions is one of the most important actions you can take to optimize your mind and body-health. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most neglected areas in many people’s lives.


In school we’re not trained to pay attention to our negative emotions. In fact we’re told “Be Positive!” Negative emotions are not even acceptable in polite society. Nevertheless we all experience them from time to time. For some people “from time to time” means daily!


Carrying around negative emotions is just one of those things you get used to; most people don’t even know that there is something they can do. Many think that it is shameful to admit having negative emotions, or think that it is a sign of weakness, and many have a lot of excuses.


But many also fall into a self-defeating pattern of thinking there’s nothing they can do. This is the way I am, they say. Get used to it! Or this is the way I am, a no-good person. Get used to it!


Whatever your thinking about negative emotions may be, I’m sure by the time you finish this article you may be ready to change your opinion….



The video above is a simple demonstration of a technique developed by Dr. Tad James. We teach it as part of our NLPCoaching Trainings. It is called Time Line Therapy®. And it is a simple, easy technique that allows you to let go of negative emotions like anger, sadness, fear, hurt and guilt and of limiting decisions like “I am not good enough”, or “I can’t have a great relationship”.


Can I do it?  You Bet! But do you want to?


There were once doubts about people’s ability to change their internal state (that is your internal emotional state). When you feel a certain way, what can you do, right?


But in the last … hmmm… about 30 years, Time Line Therapy® has been proven to be effective at assisting people to completely let go of their feelings of anger, sadness, fear, and many other negative emotions.


It is a very safe and easy technique. It works with the client’s active imagination, utilizing a process that is already happening naturally in the mind. Time Line Therapy® automates this process and makes it possible every single time.


It Works Every Time?


Yes. Every time, when the client agrees to let go of the negative emotions. I’ll get to that in a moment, but first let’s see why bother with this subject of negative emotions at all?


Time Line Therapy® does not make people into unfeeling robotic zombies and does not force anybody to change anything they don’t want to change. So, let’s be clear: if you expect that Time Line Therapy® will take from you your anger in spite of you wanting to be angry on an old foe, you’re mistaken. Your cooperating in agreeing to let go of the negative emotions is required.


But if you want to let go of your negative emotions, then the process becomes easy and it works every time.When they’re done with the process people usually describe themselves as feeling:


 Lighter

 Happier

 Like a weight has been taken off their shoulders

 Life has meaning again

 In charge

 In control

 More optimistic

 More confidence

 Feeling better in general about themselves


In one of the last trainings, we had one student who complained that Time Line Therapy® does not work for her. This was bizarre, since the rest of the training participants all had success and felt good as a result of being free of their fears, anger, sadness, or frustration – what have you!


We talked to her a little only to find out that she had no intention of letting go of her anger. She was adamant that it keeps her energized… Well, hello! I just said that Time Line Therapy® does not force you to do anything you don’t want to do!


So, if you want to keep your negative emotions, go right ahead! One day you will have enough, and you will say: that’s it! I am sick and tired of feeling bad. I am done! And, once you do Time Line Therapy®, that’s the point where you will begin to be free of all your old unresolved “stuff”.


You’re Never Too Old to Feel Good about Yourself!


We spend our lives feeling “not good” about ourselves. If we only were taller, blonder, smarter, younger, thinner, if we only were born in another family, in another economic time, if we only had the inner power of that person, or the other one….


What is this? Why do we do this to ourselves? Why do we crave so much appreciation from others but we never get enough to feel good about who we are? What is missing inside or what is present in our thinking that makes us feel bad about ourselves, even if we do this only at times?


When we’re born, we don’t feel inadequate that we wear diapers and our behinds look too big as we toddle along in our parent’s living room. We don’t think “Oh, I am really not good enough today!”


The Remarkable Emotional and Mental-Health Benefits of Time Line Therapy®


Let’s take anger as an example. It is a common human emotion.


Although Anger Management is a solution, is only a temporary one. In many cases it acts like a band aid. Knowing your anger, being aware of what makes you angry or identifying the specific triggers that make you blow up is an important step. Nevertheless, that alone is not getting rid of your anger. Negative emotions seem to pop up in an instant, and your conscious decision to “never do that again” does not have time to kick in. This is because your response is unconscious. In other words, it does not depend to your conscious volition.


The negative emotions from the past are not gone. They are stored in the memories of your cells, in your body. They may not be present in your thinking all the time (and that’s lucky!), but they’re still there! They are present at the Unconscious Level, that is to say, many times outside of your conscious control. This is why you blow up, or get frightened or sad without any apparent reason.


Time Line Therapy® offers a milestone solution to people’s negative emotions and limiting decisions and beliefs about themselves. After a Time Line Therapy® session, your negative emotions or limiting decisions and limiting beliefs will be gone. So gone, you will never think of them again!


I worked once with a 78 years old lady, who was ill at the time. And by doing Time Line Therapy® we were hoping to make her feel better, and to be more positive about her ability to heal. She had anger from the past events and a lot of fear. We worked together, and after letting go of anger, she denied to ever having it, even though before we started she kept talking about how angry she was in certain events from her past.


She said “You know, Adriana, I actually have never been angry” Isn’t that great? Anger was so “gone” that she did not even remember having it! And no, she was not senile! But, now she did not have to carry with her for how many years she still had to live the heavy emotional load on these past memories.


Don’t get me wrong. The memories were still there.


Time Line Therapy® Does Not Take Away Your Memories

Let’s be realistic. Nobody denies that bad things have happened to you in the past. Bad things happen to everybody. It is normal in the process of living. And it is also normal to feel angry, or sad, or frightened, or guilty, or hurt. These are normal human emotions. But what would be the point to feel those emotions on events that happened 20 years ago?


Do you think it serves you to still be resentful toward a school colleague that bullied you when you were 10? What about being really angry on an old “Ex”? You know, that person that you loved very much and they treated you poorly? Do you think that still being resentful you’re paying them back? Do you think these people have any idea that you still feel bad, after all this time?


Then why do you do it?


Here is why: because these memories carry with them something unresolved for you. And what is unresolved are the negative emotions you experienced at that time. And this emotional heaviness still present on those memories can disappear.


At a meta-level, it is not by the presence of negative emotions that you develop new ways of dealing with life; it is by the learnings and the meanings you ascribe to those events, learnings associated with the Time Line Therapy® process that you develop new strategies and protect yourself from similar events, so you react better and are more prepared to face life’s challenges.


Carrying around all your old feelings of frustration, apathy, dissatisfaction, rolling your eyes when something is happening again that makes you feel “icky” and putting up with it every time, is only going to take a toll on your emotional and mental health.


Are you performing better your daily tasks (at work or at home) if you’re in good mood? Do you feel healthier and more cheerful when you don’t experience negative emotions?


Of course!


These are rhetorical questions, anyway. It is pointing out the obvious! And yet, if all of these are true… what’s holding you back?


Many people put up with feeling bad and don’t even know that the underlying cause of their underperformance is what they carry unconsciously inside: all the past negative emotions experienced and also all the limiting decisions about themselves. They are in a self-perpetuating loop, without an exit.


But after doing Time Line Therapy®, you actually set in motion a beneficial feedback loop that leads to even greater level of mental and emotional health. As you remove the emotional chains of negative emotions accumulated in your body’s memory from the past events, you have an easier time dealing with anything life throws at you. And once you experience the freedom of past unresolved negative emotions and you begin to let go of your limiting beliefs and decisions about your own capabilities, life becomes all of a sudden, much better.


Anyone Can Incorporate This Amazing, Efficient and Effective Technique in Their Weekly Routine


Being free of negative emotions is easy.


No, we’re not talking here about being dissociated, or not paying attention to them. We’re not talking here about being in denial.


In one of our Time Line Therapy® Master Practitioner training, a man in his 50’s said “I don’t have any negative emotions!” Wow! This person was either enlightened or in denial. So we asked: “Have you ever been angry in your life? “


“Of course!” he said. “I was once really mad because I had to fight the telephone company for a bill that wasn’t mine! That made me so angry! It wasn’t my fault. But as I think of it now, I am not angry anymore”


“Well, why don’t you go back to that memory in your mind and step back in your body at that time, and tell us, do you still feel those emotions?”


“Yeah!” he said. “Big time! It wasn’t my fault! And they treated me like I was not willing to pay my bills. I am still very angry!”


This is a very good example of negative emotions stored in the body, but not in consciousness all the time. So as you can see, it is not that he experienced that old “being mad” all the time, nevertheless it was still there.

Here is an extreme example. Friday Fun Facts… Did you know this about Hypnosis?

Friday Fun Facts: Did you know…there must be willingness on the part of the person to be hypnotized. A common misconception with hypnosis is that you relinquish control when in a hypnotic trance. The truth is that in a trance state you are taking back control; you are aware of everything said to you and you can easily accept or reject any suggestion given to you.


 


Most Hypnotherapy sessions take people into a light to medium depth trance, whereby they are in a state of deep mental and physical relaxation but still fully aware of their surroundings. The hypnotic trance state is commonly defined by the various brainwave states.


 


In 1929 Hans Berger used an EEG Machine to discover that when a person’s eyes were closed, the brain generated regular waves in the 8 to 12 cycles per second (cps) range. He labelled these brain waves Alpha Waves. Subsequently, other types of waves were discovered and labelled Theta, Beta and Delta. These brain waves have been found to correlate to various mental functions, including hypnosis and psychic experience. Experts generally agree on these brain waves and their purpose but they disagree on the exact boundaries of each kind of wave. One expert will define alpha as 8 to 12 cps; another as 7 – 14 cps, and so forth. The next four sentences present the general consensus concerning these brain waves.


 


Beta (13-30 Hz): Normal state of alertness, waking consciousness


Alpha (8-12 Hz): State of light relaxation, state of super learning, positive thinking


Theta (4-7 Hz): Deep relaxation, meditation, increased memory and focus


Delta (1-3 Hz): Deep sleep, lucid dreaming, increased immune functions


 


An easy way to remember this is to think of the word BATTED – beta, alpha, theta and delta.

In a typical hypnosis session performed by a therapist, the client will be guided into a relaxed state of mind and body through suggestion techniques. When you are in a hypnotic trance state, brainwave cycles will actually slow down and then quicken again when coming out of the trance and back to full consciousness. This also occurs naturally when you go to sleep each night and again when you wake up in the morning. These natural trance states are called the hypnogogic and hypnopompic states.





When we go to bed and wind down before going to sleep, we are likely to be in a low beta state. When we close our eyes and relax, our brainwaves will descend from beta to alpha to theta and finally, when we fall asleep, to delta. The ideal state for absorbing visualizations, suggestions and affirmations is between the alpha and theta states.


 


Most hypnotic inductions guide the listener into the Alpha state. In this relaxed optimum learning state and with the guidance of a skilled hypnotherapist, you are able to eliminate negative thoughts and patterns of behaviour and replace them with new positive solutions. On some occasions people can go into a very deep somnambulistic trance state (which is like a deep sleep) although they can still accept and act upon any suggestions given to them.


 


The five stages in a typical hypnotherapy session.


 


1. The introduction – how hypnosis works, what it is and isn’t


2. The induction – breathing exercises and the guiding into a light trance.


3. The deepening – guiding into deep hypnosis via a count down and other visual cues.


4. The post hypnotic suggestions – i.e, “you will feel more confident in your every day life.”  


5. The awakening – waking up by counting

Which Healing Foods Will You Choose?

Natural foods and herbs have inherent healing properties. Studies have been done correlating specific foods with their  healing effects and uses but few of us seem to be aware that some foods even look like the organs that they benefit. There are lots of healing foods that resemble the body parts that they help to heal. Listed are some examples to illustrate this relatively unknown marvel.



Walnuts look like tiny brains, complete with little wrinkles and sections that resemble the right and left hemispheres and various lobes. These nuts have been found to develop over three dozen neurotransmitters which help with signaling and messaging in the brain.


Olives look like the ovaries in women. They promote ovarian function and health. Olive oil has been proven to reduce the rate of ovarian cancer.


A tomato is red, fluid-filled and has four chambers like the heart. The antioxidant lycopene that makes tomatoes red is really good for the heart and blood and many other parts of the body.


A carrot looks like an eye when cross-cut. Carrots have been proven to enhance circulation to the eyes. Beta carotene, a powerful antioxidant found in carrots, reduces the risk of cataracts and protects against macular degeneration.


Sweet potatoes resemble the shape of the pancreas and are very good for it. They balance blood sugar levels so they are especially great for diabetics. Beta carotene in sweet potatoes protects the body from damage related to aging and cancer.


Celery and rhubarb are stalk-like in appearance and resemble bone structure in our bodies. Sodium is needed for many reactions in the body and if you don’t have enough of it for those processes, it’s pulled from the bones where there’s a supply of sodium. This pulling out causes the bones to weaken. Foods rich in sodium are great for building and sustaining bone strength.


Grapes look similar to the alveoli of the lungs. Grapes are effectual in reducing the severity of asthma because of the chemical component in the seeds. They help to reduce lung cancer and emphysema.


Ginger looks very much like a stomach in shape and has long been known to help prevent nausea and vomiting. It’s often used by pregnant women with morning sickness and others who are sick to settle the stomach. It has been found helpful to aid with digestion.


Mushrooms have been found to have a lot of vitamin D which helps with hearing. Think of the way a mushroom looks when it is sliced, just like an ear!


Ginseng looks sort of like the human form and is good for the entire body. This herb boosts the immune system, increases energy levels, is an anti-inflammatory aid, helps balance blood sugar levels, boosts memory, helps people cope with mental and physical stress and much more.


Grapefruits, oranges, and lemons look similar to the mammary glands in the female breast. Citrus fruits help lymph to circulate in and out of the breasts. Limonoids in citrus fruits inhibit breast cancer and other cancers.


Figs grow and hang in pairs like male testicles. Figs are filled with tiny seeds like testicles with their sperm. Studies on figs in relation to the testicles and prostate reveal that figs reduce prostate cancer.


An avocado resembles the shape of the womb and cervix. Avocados are very good for this part of the body because they balance hormones, help to prevent cervical cancer and even help women shed excess weight after a baby is born if eaten regularly. Interestingly, the time it takes for an avocado to grow and ripen fully from a little blossom to ripe fruit is the same as the gestation of a baby in the womb, nine months!


Wheatgrass is an amazing grass that grows from the kernels of wheat berries. It has many healing properties that affect the entire body. When wheatgrass is juiced, it’s the consistency of blood and full of chlorophyll, just as deeply green as blood is red. Wheatgrass is a blood detoxifier, purifier and blood builder and has liquid oxygen in it which protects against cancer cells. Powerful stuff!

I sometimes muscle test the various entrees listed on the menu to see which meal would benefit me the most at that particular time. It helps us to decide what to order and what to avoid when we’re out to dinner.
