Author Interview with Marina Gabriela

Introduce yourself!
Hi! My name is Marina Gabriela, and I’m a Canadian fantasy author. I just published my debut epic fantasy novel, Eltaris. I’ve wanted to tell stories since I was a kid, so this is quite literally a dream come true!
What’s the first book you remember reading?
Honestly, I can’t remember the first book that I read on my own. I was an avid reader as a little girl and I would burn through books in an instant. The earliest ones I remember really loving, are Calvin and ...

Book Review: Punctuation to the Rescue (2025)

Punctuation to the Rescue by Cheryl Olsten
This is a very cute little story about the importance of punctuation marks and how each one is used in a sentence but conveyed in a fun, colourful, wholesome way that young kids will likely enjoy! Each punctuation mark character brings to life their uses in a sentence – as in, Question asks questions, Comma pauses a lot, Exclamation exclaims a lot, etc. I thought the inclusion of old forgotten punctuation marks was a fun little ode, too.

Author Interview with Mark N Drake

Introduce yourself!
Hi! I’m Mark N Drake and I mostly write noir-ish Lovecraftian horror. My “Glennison Darkisle Cases” series currently comprises five novels, and at the time of writing I’m working on Number 6! I was originally a research physicist, then moved into University management. I’m sure I read any number of ...

Author Interview with Joel Rustin

Introduce yourself!
I was raised by 90s pop culture. Buffy. Point Horror. WWF. Charmed. English was my favourite subject at school and I was lucky to have a lot of big readers in my life who encouraged me to write extensively and take the time to develop my voice.
Hits Different is my first book. I thought a lot about my younger self when I was writing it. When I was growing up, it was rare that LGBT characters had storylines that didn’t solely revolve around their sexuality. Hits Diff...
Author Interview with Avalon Roselin

Introduce yourself!
Hello! My name is Avalon Roselin. I am a queer indie author in their 30s, and I write primarily Horror and Fantasy books.
Tell us what you’re currently reading!
As of writing this, I am reading The Sunbearer Trials and Genocide of the Mind; there are a lot of Horror, queer, and indie titles on my TBR.
Pick a genre, any genre!
Even as a child, I was always fascinated by the darker side of fiction and drawn to Horror as a result. I also love magic, dragons, e...
Book Review: My Nova Scotia (2025)

My Nova Scotia by Lindsay Ruck
Illustrated by Martyna Czub
My Nova Scotia is an ocean breeze
With sand at my feet and rustling trees
Oh this made me so terribly emotional in the best way! I missed Nova Scotia more and more with every page. Anyone who has ever been there or lived there knows how lovely and homey and cosy a place it is. From the beaches to the valleys to the forests, it is a place unlike any other and this little book of rhymes about Nova Scotia brought me so much joy! The...

Book Review: Silent Almighty (2025)

Silent Almighty by Timothy Wolff
Rain is one of the few things less beautiful without sound.
This novella dark fantasy series is so uniquely done! And so many of the lines were just beautifully written. With a rare mixture of self-referential humour, breaking the fourth wall (so to speak), layered worldbuilding and cracking dialogue, I’m left very impressed by Wolff’s skills as a writer and his handle on prose.
I will do this again. I will do this over and over because I have no cho...

Book Review: The Big Snowdown (2025)

The Big Snowdown by Katy Hudson
Not only was this book beautifully illustrated – I’m more than a little obsessed with illustrations and animated settings set in the snow and wintertime as they’re just SO COSY AND CUTE – but it also offered a very good message about hard work, being humble and learning that winning isn’t something anyone is entitled to simply because someone thinks they deserve it. Working hard to master your craft, learning what works and what doesn’t, growing and develop...

Book Review: The Wrong Bride (2022)

The Wrong Bride (The Windsors, #1) by Catharina Maura
Maybe true love is just two imperfect people choosing each other despite the obstacles they’ll face together and deciding that it’s worth it. Because it is.
Ooooh the way I DEVOURED THIS BOOK! Definitely recommend for romance fans!
Mild spoilers from here
Arranged marriage and he calls her ‘my wife’ the whole way through? Yaaaaaas. Honestly Ares was so extra at times – like oh my gosh lmao – but it was downright endearing, to...
