My brother is adopted. My nephew is adopted. Three of my cousins are adopted. It was a normal part of “how you got kids” when I was growing up. I got married at the tender age of 42 and the fertility ship had sailed. I have a biological daughter, but when the question of adding …

Timeline Photos
7.5 year old Ellira had a wonderful family, but due to circumstances beyond their control, they cannot continue with her adoption and she is once again waiting for a family to find her. Ellira is diagnosed with post-op unilateral club foot and spina bifida. Ellira is listed with Madison Adoption Associates via an orphanage partnership and her file is not available to be transferred to another agency at this time. Madison will choose the family who is the best fit for her based on her needs. Ellira has an account on Reece's Rainbow to help with her adoption expenses: http://reecesrainbow.org/80602/paisley

From her March 2014 file: Ellira is active and smart. She is very observant and has good handcraft and logic. She can answer questions in class and her pictures are full of imagination. She likes picture puzzles and toy blocks, playing games, and caring for other people. Ellira is optimistic and she likes beautiful things, such as nice clothes and dolls. She is quiet, but extroverted. She enjoys music, playing with toys- especially dolls and Barbie princesses. She has a ready smile and enjoys the outdoors. She is close to her caretakers. Ellira is able to walk. Now she is 107cm in height, 18kg in weight, 48.4cm in head size, 60.2cm in chest size, 20 teeth.

From An Orphan's Wish: Ellira is definitely the little princess in the residential unit. She will wear fairy wings and antennae in the class to, if nobody notices. But make no mistake, she takes her studies very seriously. As the weather is hotter and hotter, the children have had treats of ice cream and water play with a hose pipe. Ellira loved the ice cream and savored it. When it come to playing in the water, Ellira did not like the water getting into her eyes and spent most of the time on trampoline with the smaller kids. Ellira is getting to be best friends with Cassie, and they are often seen giggling and playing together. As of August 31, 2013, An Orphan's Wish - Guilin is closed and all children have been transitioned into their new settings. Ellira was placed into foster care with one of our previous AOW staff members. She has settled in with a staff member she has known for quite some time and has been placed in a home with another child from the An Orphan's Wish. We are happy this gives the familiarity and consistency needed to continue to flourish. All of the children in foster care will also continue to receive education from our teacher Carolyn. Many of these children will be adopted in the next several months, but our hope is that the remaining children will be placed within the next two years with their forever families.

For more information on Ellira, please fill out a free PAP Waiting Child Review Form, which can be found here: https://madison.mysamdb.com/SAM/Fm/Fm... — with Karen Kowalkowski Guc.

An older article about adoption from Vanity Fair, but interesting to see the differences between then and now.

www.vanityfair.com
Since 1991, American families have adopted more than 60,000 Chinese babies, almost all of them girls. But as the Olympics introduce the world to a modern, telegenic Beijing, one adoptive mother reflects on the grim realities of her daughter’s birthplace—and copes with the knowledge that her own happ…
