From article: The experience of visiting my orphanage struck something within me, and I could no longer deny the reality of the two places in China that I had a connection to. For the first time in my life, I saw myself as I truly was: a Chinese adoptee. These two visits were the turning point in my ever-confusing struggle with self-identity. After all those years of trying to ignore my past, I was facing it head on.

(¸.•´ (¸.•` ¤ GIVEAWAY! One lucky entrant will win a signed (print) copy of The Scavenger's Daughters (personalized to you or someone else for an upcoming holiday gift!) by commenting below in answer to this. In the series, what would you like to read about next? Or which daughter(s)? Here's a quick review:
Book one: From the pov of Benfu (the scavenger devoted to his band of castaway girls) and Linnea. (the headstrong daughter who is fighting to get out of poverty)and introduces the entire family and their specific needs, as well as focuses on the new relationship Linnea has found.
Book Two: The main thread is about the daughter who was stolen away from Benfu and Calla Lily when she was an infant. Her life as a child in the orphanage and in/out of foster care is explored, and her current circumstances are grim. Linnea follows clues and tries to help reunite the daughter with Benfu and Calli.
Book Three: The twins, (Ivy and Lily) fall into trouble with government officials and the sisterly/twin bond they have is tested. Li Jin is working to do something meaningful with her life but her friend will try to stand in her way.
Book Four: The eldest daughter, Mari, has her own troubles to dig out of but comes face to face with a lost little girl on the streets who captivates her. A troubled American, Max, also comes into the picture. The three of them will fight through their personal demons as their lives converge.
Okay.....so that's it. Sort of. There's so much more to these novels--so many more side plots. Tell me if there was something you've wondered about, a story you'd like to see developed more, or a character you want fleshed out with another turn.
Don't forget **no spoilers** in your comments in case there are new readers here! Winner will be drawn 11/11/14.

A very important article by an adoptee.
From article: 'It's been said that adoption loss is the only trauma in the world where everyone expects the victims to be grateful and appreciative. I am grateful and appreciative, but I also want to remind people that someone's happiness over building their family through adoption may also be someone else's sorrow over losing their child for circumstances they couldn't control. Gotcha Day feels like a day of fake smiles if we don't acknowledge that it's also about loss, not just gain.'---Sophie Johnson, author

Lots of families celebrate the day they met their adopted child and became a family. But while I appreciate the love and everything else my parents give me, Gotcha Day can be a mixed bag -- one that leaves kids like me sad and confused....
