with open arms: adopting from disruption | No Hands But Ours

We stood shivering on a strange doorstep sixteen long hours from home. It was nerves mixed with excitement that churned inside me as we raised our hand to knock on the door. A stack of boxes and suitcases greeted us in the foyer when the door opened. We stepped inside and a little boy with …

Me and my twin. Tomorrow is our birthday but today we'll spend the day together. First lunch, then a couple's massage at a swanky spa because who could be more of a couple than those who shared the womb, then 45 years of births, deaths, marriages and divorces....just to list a few of life's ups and downs?

Sisterhood can be a tough relationship to navigate, but just knowing she has my back is a priceless gift. (Photo taken at Camp Joy around age 11, me on right)

Fortune telling has a long tradition in China. #china

Timeline Photos
"Fortune telling has a long tradition in China. My father taught me and he knew how to do it because the knowledge was always passed down from one generation to the next in our family. The young people, except some very desperate young girls, don't like this much so probably this tradition will end with me in our family. People visit me to have their face and palm read, explain their astrology or use the fortune teller sticks. Most of the time they want me to advise them on buying a new property, business, health, marriages, their jobs or even when is the best time to have babies. Some people believe that if they are suddenly having bad luck they must change something in life and that's why they seek me for an advice."

What is the best way to read one's future?

"Palm reading (手相) is the most fundamental way to tell the future of a person but everyone's favorite are the four pillars 'Bazi' (八字) or four components of time; the hour of birth, day, month and year. Want to give it a try?"

"It is a scary diagnosis at first but just like anything else, if you take it step by step and lean on The Lord, it is so doable.
None of these will affect his life in the long run. Our son will grow up with confidence and the sky is the limit for him."

Annual Cherry Blossom Festival in Shanghai. #China #Shanghai

Timeline Photos
Authorities have set up additional 2,400 parking lots near Gucun #Park in Baoshan District to cope with the expected jump in visitors for the annual #Cherry Blossom Festival which begins tomorrow.

Traffic police said the temporary parking spaces along the roads leading to the park besides the park’s original parking lots can accommodate 5,400 cars per day during the festival, which ends in mid-April.

Four more buses will be added to the dozens of bus lines to the park on weekends. More buses will be dispatched if the number of visitors soars, Zhang Zhong, director of the park, said yesterday.
