Today marks the release of a new Christmas-themed children's book from Jenelle Schmidt: ‘Twas an Evening in Bethlehem. Those who keep up with my reviews on Goodreads will remember that I've enthusiastically praised Jenelle's fantasy novels in the past, and while it's a very different kind of story, this beautiful book certainly lives up to her usual high standards of quality. The book also features illustrations from Sierra Klein.

Welcome to the cave of Malcolm Blackfire. Sorry for the poor lighting; that big blazing lantern on the ceiling doesn't illuminate things nearly as well as I'd like it too. I'll admit this place looks a little sparse at the moment, for a dragon cave, but that's because I told Malcolm to clear some space for the Silmaril Award Ceremony. I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY, YOU DRAGON-OBSESSED MANIACS.
What is it with fantasy authors and dragons, anyway? Don't they have better things to write about?

In 2017, when I first participated in the Silmaril Awards, I handled the competition for Least Competent Henchman.
In 2018, I moved up to Most Nefarious Villain.
The next step is obvious. All my training has prepared me for this moment.
It is time for me to take on the most coveted–and dangerous–of Silmarils…
