Doctor Who S11E5: The Tsuranga Conundrum Review

A mishap with a sonic mine leads to a major setback in the Thirteenth Doctor's journey. Once again, she's not feeling well, and she's lost her TARDIS. It's The Woman Who Fell to Earth all over again.

[image error]Well, not really, because we're a long way away from Earth now. Team TARDIS is aboard a hospital ship hurtling toward a medical base. Not so bad, except that there's something onboard with them that really doesn't belong there.

How does this unusual story premise pan out?

The Quick and Spoiler-Fr...

Doctor Who S11E4: Arachnids in the UK Review

After regenerating, accidentally dragging her three new friends with her to an alien planet, finding the TARDIS, and making a brief detour to 1950's Alabama, the Doctor has finally managed to get her accidental companions home, safe and sound. However, in typical Doctor Who fashion, things get complicated, leading to the first proper “alien threat on modern-day earth” episode of Series 11. I'm describing it that way despite this being the basic premise of The Woman Who Fell To Earth, because...

Buckle your seat-belts, people. It's time to go over the aftermath of the Afterverse Relaunch, and to look ahead to the future as well. So wake up and pay attention.

Yes, you. I'm talking to you back there, the one who's nodding off. This is no time for you to go into a sugar coma from all that Halloween candy. Snap out of it.

*unfurls cartoonishly long list*

Happy Afterween! (In Progress)

I'm happy to announce that the Afterverse Relaunch has officially begun!

…and I'm less happy to add that it's not completely off the ground yet. It will be by the end of the day, hopefully, but some technical difficulties with Amazon have delayed certain things. I'm still working on getting the new versions of my books uploaded and approved, so that may not be completed until later today (or tomorrow at the very latest). As a result, there are still some broken links and erroneous pages here...

Doctor Who S11E3: Rosa Review

I'm one of the many viewers who grew apprehensive upon hearing that Doctor Who would be doing an episode about Rosa Parks this year. Different people have been worried about this particular story for different reasons. On the one hand, a Rosa Parks episode could fail to do justice to its subject, making it seem as if a black woman's fight for civil rights only succeeded thanks to the actions of a white woman from the future. On the other hand, it might alienate conservative audiences (especi...

Doctor Who S11E2: The Ghost Monument Review

I've always held the opinion that there is a sort of curse on “second episodes” for each new Doctor. In his bizarre second episode, the Ninth Doctor battled…a piece of skin. Ten's first proper journey in the TARDIS dropped him into the villainous clutches of…the piece of skin, again. Eleven's inaugural trip put him in the middle of an awkward story about unexplained smiling robots and…why democracy is bad, I guess? And Twelve's mission inside a Dalek was interesting in principle, but in the e...

The Afterverse Relaunch: Explaining My New Tagline

As you've probably already noticed, one of my changes to this site is the new tagline beneath my logo: “Clean content. Perilous tales.” My previous tagline, “Writing the stories you're looking for,” was good, but…a little too Star-Wars, to be honest. Also, it didn't adequately communicate the unique branding and emphasis of my fiction.

So, how does the new one do that?

As many of you already know, I'm a Christian, but I don't write “Christian” fiction. Yes, there is a Christian worldview r...

The Afterverse Relaunch: New Free Short Stories and My Return to Patreon

I'm back with the next installment of news about the Afterverse Relaunch, kicking off this Halloween. Today, I'm revealing more about four new Afterverse short stories which will soon be available.

All these stories will be FREE. Three of them will be available to my email subscribers (in place of the free books which are currently on offer).

First, there's “A Spoonful of Aether”, a Beaumont and Beasley short story.

The Afterverse Relaunch: The Future of Beaumont and Beasley

It's time to dive into all the news and announcements about the Afterverse Relaunch! Since there's a lot to share, I'm not going to try to get it all into one post. The handy graphic above will sum up all the salient points of information for you, though, and I'll unpack it all in detail in multiple posts over the next several days. The relaunch officially begins on Halloween, so mark your calendars! (Actually, I guess they're already marked for Halloween, so never mind. Unless you w...

Doctor Who S11E1: The Woman Who Fell to Earth Review

[image error]You may have read my post about how I was giving up on any expectations that Series 11 of Doctor Who would be good, let alone great. After the BBC’s politically-charged marketing campaign leading up to the premiere, even the one or two decent trailers didn’t encourage me much. I read most of the advance reviews, and they didn’t excite me either. The positive ones focused mainly on the gender change, and the negative ones warned that this wouldn’t resemble the Doctor Who I remembered.

So when...
