The Wandering Bird

A flock of birds

circle the sky

in one formation.

When one bird

flies separately;

we judge.

It must be dumb

for it has lost its way;

or rather it is just

a disobedient brat.

What if the flock are in the wrong

and they follow each other

disregarding their selves?

What if that one bird

seeks an adventure

or noticed a hidden treasure?

I am that wandering bird

and I take pride

in creating my own path.

Clown

Reality is not binary,

opposites are bound to be true:

hate is filled with love,

love filled with hate.

Emotions are a coin toss,

both heads and tails live,

yet, only one dominates.

You watched me laugh,

you watched me cry;

euphoric and depressed.

I am a frowning clown,

you will never know

which face is really mine.

Cascade

Feed me your love,

but the O is hollow,

so it all seeps out.

Chasing water down the river,

that love that you give —

I crave it.

How could I live

without the touch of your hands?

the reason to why my heart still beats.

Drown me in your affection

but I will never sink;

it all dries up

as you close the door behind.

You return

and find me parched;

on all fours

begging you:

“Never leave my side again.”

Project Enlightenment

All my life

I have been programmed;

hacked, rather.

A robot in society’s machine,

performing mechanically

the duties given to me.

Enlightenment:

an attempt

to override these hacks

and clear their attacks,

discovering who I truly am.

Without these programs:

What would I do?

How would I feel?

Project Enlightenment:

taking back

what should have always been

truly mine.

Oh, How Times Change

Your body nailing me against the wall;

heaved breaths trickling down my neck

as nails dig their way through skin.

Oh, how times change.

You nail my heart to our front door,

watch my blood trickling under your feet

whilst you dig my grave with cutting words.

Liberation

I will let you slit my wrists,

watch the blood spatter

as I lay lifeless in its pool.

I will let you take away my life

if it means you get to have

the happy ending we always dreamed of.

Find the liberation in my death.

Flutter like an innocent butterfly,

amidst the floral aroma

forget the stench of my rotten body,

the vivid hues of petals

override the memories

of the trickling blood you shed.

Unrestrained –

live your life

as if it never was

a part of mine.

I am… Broken

You slammed the door

in the middle of the night.

On the floor lay

scattered pieces.

Alone in a shroud of dust,

coughing; I feel lost.

Tears landing onto mud;

without a proper goodbye

you left me to suffer

in this chaos.

I feel fragile.

I feel weak.

Through my water-filled eyes,

a blurred vision

of a mirror:

the walls around my heart

have collapsed;

you only broke

my weaknesses.

Living Dead

In my womb,

faint memories

echo.

Gone:

you;

us;

a part of me.

Empty is all I will ever be;

devoid of love,

devoid of life.

Cannibal

You ate my heart,

spat it out

in my mouth.

Its arteries cut,

hanging loose

dripping blood.

Chewed up,

a macabre scene:

cannibal feast.

My heart is dead.

At least,

it no longer hurts.

Insanity

Confined;

just me

and my thoughts,

echoing.

Is my voice

mine?

Hallucinations

barge in,

when needed

they disappear.

Time warps,

reality and dream

converge.

Awake,

night or day?

Asleep,

day or night?

On the brink of insanity;

decomposing alive

in a coffin

labelled:

‘Solitary Confinement.’

~

I got the inspiration for this after watching the first episode of Mind Field. Isolation is a killer and harmful to not just the brain, but to the physical body. It does not make sense that we deprive people out of the basic need of senses or social contact. Poor sleep and diets are also harmful, and most of our prisons are designed to worsen someone’s condition. I refuse to believe that solitary confinement for prolonged periods can be a benefit to anyone. If we want inmates to come out reformed, we need to treat them with respect, like they are living creatures (yes, animals deserve respect too). Sensory stimuli are basic human rights. For those who are interested, here is the first episode to Mind Field:
