Penguin Random House Presents: A Virtual Evening with JIM CARREY & DANA VACHON! #Knopf

Penguin Random House proudly joins forces with Books & Books @ The Studios of Key West to present Jim Carrey & Dana Vachon one and only virtual event to discuss their new novel, MEMOIRS AND MISINFORMATION.

Find the book here: https://bit.ly/memoirsandmisinformation

“None of this is real and all of it is true,” says Jim Carrey about his new novel, Memoirs and Misinformation, co-written with the author Dana Vachon. The award-winning actor and author will make his one and only virtual appearance exclusively with Books & Books, and introduced by one of America’s most beloved authors Judy Blume, in conversation with his writing partner Vachon, and moderated by Mitchell Kaplan, the owner-founder of the independently-owned bookstore Books & Books in Miami, Florida.

ABOUT THE BOOK Meet Jim Carrey. Sure, he’s an insanely successful and beloved movie star drowning in wealth and privilege–but he’s also lonely. Maybe past his prime. Maybe even . . . getting fat? He’s tried diets, gurus, and cuddling with his military-grade Israeli guard dogs, but nothing seems to lift the cloud of emptiness and ennui. Even the sage advice of his best friend, actor and dinosaur skull collector Nicolas Cage, isn’t enough to pull Carrey out of his slump. But then Jim meets Georgie: ruthless ingénue, love of his life. And with the help of auteur screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, he has a role to play in a boundary-pushing new picture that may help him uncover a whole new side to himself–finally, his Oscar vehicle! Things are looking up! But the universe has other plans. Memoirs and Misinformation is a fearless semi-autobiographical novel, a deconstruction of persona. In it, Jim Carrey and Dana Vachon have fashioned a story about acting, Hollywood, agents, celebrity, privilege, friendship, romance, addiction to relevance, fear of personal erasure, our “one big soul,” Canada, and a cataclysmic ending of the world–apocalypses within and without.

Video – POLITICS AND PROSE Bookstore: JAMES ELLROY Talks About His New Book, THIS STORM (Knopf)

In this recent video by the POLITICS AND PROSE Bookstore James Ellroy discusses his novel, “This Storm” (Knopf, Book Cover Design by Chip Kidd). Ellroy, one of the top crime fiction writers working today, excels at telling large stories on an expansive canvas. He won renown first with his Underworld U.S.A. Trilogy–which included the classic American Tabloid—and cemented his reputation with his unparalleled L.A. Quartet.

In his new novel, which follows Perfidia as the second volume of a projected four, Ellroy returns to Los Angeles. The time is 1942. The city is inflamed with war fever and racism, and many in the LAPD are less concerned with fighting crime than with profiteering, tracking down fifth column elements, or, when a body washes up in a mudslide, with claiming a share of the loot from an unsolved gold heist a decade earlier. Masterfully paced, richly plotted, and dripping with noir, this is historical crime fiction at its best—and vintage Ellroy.

JAMES ELLROY was born in Los Angeles in 1948. He is the author of the Underworld U.S.A. Trilogy: American Tabloid, The Cold Six Thousand, and Blood’s A Rover, and the L.A. Quartet novels: The Black Dahlia, The Big Nowhere, L. A. Confidential, and White Jazz. He lives in Colorado.

Founded by Carla Cohen and Barbara Meade in 1984, Politics and Prose Bookstore is Washington, D.C.’s premier independent bookstore and cultural hub, a gathering place for people interested in reading and discussing books. Politics and Prose offers superior service, unusual book choices, and a haven for book lovers in the store and online. Visit them on the web by clicking right here – POLITICS and PROSE.
