We invite you for an unforgettable evening with Chip Kidd on Tulane’s campus March 4, 2022. Doors open at 6:00 pm for book sales and a mixer with light bites and drinks. Chip’s talk begins at 7:00 pm and is followed by a personal meet and greet with the man himself!  Register here.

MAUS Graphic Novel – What the Book-Banning Trend Could Mean for American Democracy

 

A wave of book-banning is washing over America, and Art Spiegelman is its latest target. His acclaimed graphic novel about the Holocaust, “Maus,” was recently banned by a Tennessee school board. The reason cited by the board is content that includes nudity, profanity and violence — this in reference to a book about a concentration camp. Spiegelman wrote the book about his parents, both Auschwitz survivors. In these two recent interviews he tells what the book-banning trend could mean for American democracy, antisemitism, racism and extremism.

MAUS: A SURVIVOR’S TALE, A Graphic Novel About Holocaust History, Has Been Banned in Tennessee

The graphic novel, MAUS: A SURVIVOR’S TALE, which portrays the horrors of The Holocaust, has been banned by a Tennessee school board by unanimous vote from the eighth grade curriculum. Art Spiegelman, Pulitzer Prize-winning artist and creator of the esteemed work has made some recent media appearances to show support for his book which he feels has been wrongfully banned.
