Annie's Book Stop Bujold interview up

Annie's Book Stop, an indie bookstore in Worcester, Massachusetts, http://anniesbooksworcester.com/ asked me to do a video interview for them in support of the paperback mass market edition of Penric's Labors coming out next month. It's now up on YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91no4...

I see I'm still not quite adept at this -- I keep looking at the image of the person I'm talking to down on my screen instead of up at my camera intake, giving folks a good view of my eyelids. But it seemed to go smoothly otherwise, apart from my tendency to lose track of what question I'm answering partway through. The interviewer Selina prefers to do a single long take, not edit in post, and it worked out pretty well.

I have more, and more coherently, to say about the origins of the novellas in Penric's Labors in the 3-part essay at the back of the volume.

I had a memorable signing at that store on a long-ago book tour. A blizzard hit, fortunately just after I'd arrived and checked into my hotel, but the traffic snarl in town was so bad we barely made it from the hotel to the store. Which was OK, because neither did many customers. A few brave ones did persevere, and I recall we had a nice sort of intimate chat.

I wouldn't think readers of this blog need apprised of the existence of this 3rd Penric & Desdemona collection (though by all means tell your friends) but if so, here's its Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

Annie's has a whole channel of prior material:

sharing Sharing Knife thoughts

I was reminded by a recent fan letter about The Sharing Knife of this (very flattering) article on it, which may be new to most readers of this blog:

https://bracketyjack.livejournal.com/...

A point made somewhere, worth reiterating, is that The Sharing Knife is not a book and 3 sequels, but one book divided into 4 volumes. Makes a difference, speaking of story structure.

(Well, and the codicil novella "Knife Children", but that is indeed a tailpiece.)

Gerould chapbook reviews?

Huh. I just noticed none of the reviews carried over from the first (now removed from sale) to the second edition of my little family history e-chapbook.

https://www.amazon.com/Gerould-Family...

If anyone wants to repeat themselves, please do.

Ta, Lois.

Later: I also notice the Goodreads entry is for the first edition, its dead Kindle link going into the air. If anyone wants to have a go at posting the second edition on GR, also please do.

Goodreads tech question

So...

I've been trying to edit my Author Profile, adding a couple of informative lines, but the bot won't let me save. It keeps generating the same error message, "Comment is too short (minimum of 1 character)" which is doubly confusing since my addition was several words and a link in the body of the bio, and I don't know what else it is referring to, as I wasn't trying to add a comment in the comment box at all. Does anyone know how to make Profile edits behave? Mine really needs an update.

New Fantasy from Patricia C. Wrede in September

New Pat Wrede out September 5th!

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...

It's being officially marketed as a middle-school book, which means it will likely be found in most bricks-and-mortar bookstores in the kids' section rather than the regular F&SF section. For online booksellers (and readers), this division matters less.

I have my Kindle edition pre-ordered. I saw so many iterations of this in early drafts, as Pat wrestled with her material that wrestled back, much interrupted by life stuff, it will be fun to see how the final edits came out.

Cover's a hoot, very apropos.

Ta, L.

Later: information on Pat's book launch appearances in St. Paul, MN and Naperville, IL next month may be found here: https://pcwrede.com/blog/

5 Gods trio boxed set

This isn't new, but it just drifted in from my agent's office -- my first boxed set!

In Chinese, but there you go. It is possible for my books to get classy covers...

Publisher in Taiwan, ffoundation or Cite (I'm guessing ffoundation is a line under parent company Cite) but their website is listed as www.citecom.tw If I'm remembering right I did some long email interviews for them last year.

Ron Miller's space art prints for sale

You can get Ron Miller's space art prints, variously sized and framed (or not) at this link:

There are, like, 8 pages of offerings, so don't stop your browsing on screen #1.

Shards of Honor audiobook in Spanish

Hah, seems to be a week for foreign edition revivals. I see Shards of Honor as an audiobook in Spanish has popped up --

https://www.audible.com/pd/Fragmentos...

Also, it seems, for sale on Spotify, about which I know nothing. And doubtless other vendors -- I also see it on Rakuten Kobo, which I know is legit.

https://open.spotify.com/show/2m2M1oU...

I see Barrayar has also been voiced by the same Spanish narrator.

Bilingual readers who have had experience with these, do comment!

Cetaganda in Thai

My foreign publishers are not always good about forwarding author's copies, but this just drifted in from my agent: Cetaganda in Thai. It's the first I've seen of one of my titles in that language -- always a bit of a thrill, and a wonderment. And, for all my imagination, not something I could have dreamed of when I first sat down in the blue swivel rocker in the corner of my living room 1982 with a pencil and a spiral notebook to embark on my first novel.

Front cover:

And the back:
