Bujold ebooks now on Kobo

Every time I put out a new ebook, someone asks about whether they can have it on Kobo. (Groundswell, or the same person over and over, not sure. Sales, or lack of them, will tell.) I am pleased to report we will be posting my indie ebooks on that platform now. It will take a while to get them all up (tricky formatting issues), but we have five titles there already.

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/search?que...

The five titles already up are:

Shards of Honor
The Warrior's Apprentice
Falling Free
The Spirit Ring
Penric's Demon

(My HarperCollins fantasies and a couple of later Baen titles, and my audiobooks from Blackstone, have been there all along.)

Assassins of Thasalon may sell out at SubPress

As per their news squib:

https://subterraneanpress.com/news/lo...

Copies may be pre-ordered from Uncle Hugo's or Dreamhaven Books & Comics here in Minneapolis, or directly from SubPress's website.

I just today finished signing all the 1250 tip sheets to be bound into "Knot of Shadows", due out mid-winter. The stack looks the same (except for the illustration) as the one I did a while back for The Assassins of Thasalon, so I took a timely snapshot...

(Later: found the folding desk discussed below here: https://www.amazon.com/FlexiSpot-Lapt... I see they've changed the design slightly -- mine has slot for one's hand for carrying, now eliminated to give a smooth plain top I'd guess.)

fresh e-novella cover #3 -- The Borders of Infinity

Not to be confused with Borders of Infinity, the 3-novella collection plus framing story that appears along with my Vorkosigan novels. Had I foreseen, back in the early 90s, that the two would be sold separately in the same market, I'd have named the collection something else, but, too late now.

fresh e-novella cover #2: Winterfair Gifts

Used the older idea, as it was so apropos, but I hope this is visually distinct enough to feel new.

new covers for old e-novellas

Indie writers are advised to refresh their e-covers every 5 to 10 years. We put the first Vorkosigan novellas up right after we started with Amazon Kindle and other ebooks back in 2010 - 2011, because they were the only works to which I had e-rights at the time, and novellas seemed a low-risk experiment.

Once we had the novels up, later, including the 3-novella collection Borders of Infinity (not to mention "Weatherman" embedded as the opening of The Vor Game, from which it was an out-take) I wondered if I ought to retire the single novellas in favor of the collection, but I was afraid they might disappear off the devices of people who'd already purchased them, which would have been Bad.

So they remain up, selling very modestly but remaining way to sample my writing with less commitment.

Having had fun with artist Ron Miller with the re-do on The Spirit Ring earlier this year, I decided if I was going to keep the old novellas available I should to go ahead and spruce up what we had in a more unified style. I'll post scans over the next 5 days. Here's the first:

(All art and design by Ron, of course.)

new Bujold interview

...here:

https://www.goodreads.com/story/show/...

From time to time, I get interviews that can only use a portion of my reply. It belatedly occurred to me that I have a slot right here on Goodreads where I can stash them in a linkable public view, so I don't have to waste all that writing.

Given the questions (the interviewer was asking about my early fannish experiences) I thought that old photo Ron Miller took of me about 1968 would make a great illo, so I put it in the inviting slot for "cover".

Later: link for my interviews on the Vorkosigan Wiki is here: https://vorkosigan.fandom.com/wiki/Au...

Publishers Weekly reviews Assassins of Thasalon

...here:

https://www.publishersweekly.com/9781...

Nice review, though very spoilery for the first half or more of the book. This won't matter to either folks here who've already read it, or purchasing librarians or store stockers who won't have time, but might to newbies, so be careful how you share.

To be published June 30th (or thereabouts) which, I realize, is not as far off as it was.

https://subterraneanpress.com/assassi... for direct orders from the publisher, or pre-order/mail order from Uncle Hugo's or Dreamhaven here in Minneapolis.

(This is a signed limited edition of 1250 numbered copies, so supplies of this hardcover are finite.)

I took a snapshot of the foot-high stack of signed signature pages, but they don't seem to have ported over to my new phone. I am this week signing the ones for "Knot of Shadows" (which will have a spiffy cover art by Lauren Saint-Onge again); I'll try to remember to get a shot of them, which will look about identical.

Ta, L.

Later: Aha, it also got a *starred review in Library Journal, and slightly less spoilery, even better. I don't have a link, but if someone does, toss it into the comments.

Later still: a commenter came through: www.libraryjournal.com/review/the-ass...

Miller & Music

My artist friend Ron Miller passed along this link -- he supplied astronomical art to the composer for presentation with the piece.

https://www.moons-symphony.com/

Should be of general interest here...

Also speaking of Ron, after the The Spirit Ring e-cover re-do earlier this year, we've been working on cover art updates for five of my earliest e-published novellas. I'll have sneak peeks soon.
