Sara Codair is an author of short stories and novels, which are packed with action, adventure, magic, and the bizarre. They partially owe their success to their faithful feline writing partner, Goose the Meowditor-In-Chief, who likes to “edit” their work by deleting entire pages. If I am on a deadline, I free-write about being stuck, why I am stuck, and how I need to get past the block. Eventually, by forcing myself to just rant, to just think through writing instead of thinking before writing, I get myself back on track. (less)

A Lesson from 2021: Take a Break

As a writer, one of the biggest lessons I learned in 2021 was the importance of taking breaks.

For the past 6 or 7 years, I really hadn’t taken any breaks from writing. It was one short story to the next. One novel to the next. I took a little break from reading, but I am glad I picked up this one. It may be Silvia Moreno-Garcia's best book yet! Maybe I'm a little bias because 2/3 POVs were on the Northshore of MA, but it was really the characters, voice, tension and steady ...more
