AMAZING ADHD Home Organization Makeover (In Just 3 Days!)

I just finished the biggest, most emotional, most impactful home makeover —and I’m still buzzing from it. It wasn’t just a transformation of a space; it was a transformation of how a family lives and feels in their home. And the best part? It was for the amazing Jessica McCabe from How to ADHD.

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by your home, especially with ADHD in the mix, this whole home makeover will leave you feeling inspired, hopeful, and ready to tackle your clutter.

Meeting Jessica: A YouTube Star and New Mom

When I first met Jessica at an ADHD conference, I was starstruck. I’ve been watching her channel (How to ADHD)  for years—her “Hello Brains!” always makes me smile. But when she reached out for help and sent me a video walkthrough of her home, my heart broke a little. Every surface, every room was filled with clutter. I knew that feeling all too well—the one where your house becomes so overwhelming, you stop seeing it. You just… survive in it.

Jessica and her partner Raphael were drowning in stuff and chaos. Between writing a New York Times bestselling book and having a baby, their house had become a holding zone, not a home. They hadn’t truly unpacked, invested, or organized. And now? They needed to thrive.

Visual Organizers & Clutter Personalities: Butterfly Alert!

Jessica’s organizing style became clear almost immediately—she’s a classic Butterfly 🦋.   That means she’s a visual organizer who needs to see her stuff to remember it exists.  But when everything is out, it turns into visual clutter and nothing actually stands out.   Pair that with a coat closet turned “doom closet,” overflowing counters, and zero designated zones… it was clear this house needed an ADHD-friendly system overhaul.

Starting the Declutter: Goodbye Guilt, Hello Rules (Kinda)

Decluttering is never just about stuff. It’s about emotions, history, and how your brain works. So I gave Jessica and Raphael some gentle “soft rules” to follow:

If you haven’t used it in a year…

If you wouldn’t buy it again…

If it doesn’t make you happy or serve a purpose…

Let it go.

We laughed, we cried, we said goodbye to  random items being kept because  someday we might need them. No regrets!

The Messy Middle

The middle of any whole home declutter is the worst. You question your life choices, your sanity, and whether you’ve made a huge mistake. By midday on Day 1, we had only finished two closets. I was panicking. But that messy middle is where the magic brews—it’s the war before the peace.

We powered through it by remembering: decluttering isn’t about being perfect, it’s about creating flow. And ADHD brains need visual cues, not hidden bins of chaos.

Zoning In

The key to this whole home makeover was zoning!   We created functional areas that make sense for how Jess and Raphael actually live:

Entryway Launchpads for every family member (yes, even the dog!)

A Real Coffee Station so the kitchen counters could breathe and Raphael had a place for this special interest.

Doom Cabinets turned into Organized Cabinets using narrow IKEA storage

A Beautiful Grown Up Playroom that honors Jessica’s love for music and reading

Every inch of their home now has a purpose—and more importantly, a system that makes it work (and will continue to work long after we leave).

The Power of Letting Go

One of the most beautiful moments?  When Raphael shared that in a previous relationship, he was scared to let go of things because he feared losing everything and he’d have to start over and re-buy his stuff.   But this time, he felt secure. That trust between them—the ability to say, “We’re safe together. We can let this go”—was the heart of the transformation.

It just further proves that decluttering isn’t just physical. It’s emotional and it can be healing.

The Big Reveal

We revealed the final space to Jessica and Raphael—and I’ll be honest, there were tears. They finally saw their home not as a pitstop, but as a real home. Their daughter now has a magical play area. Their kitchen is usable and calm. Their living room reflects their personalities and passions. Everything has been zoned with ADHD friendly organization.

Jessica said, “I’ve been trying to accomplish something like this since my mom died and I lost the home I had to go home to.” And now? She has that feeling again. She’s home. 💕

You Deserve to Thrive

If you’re struggling with clutter—especially as someone with ADHD—you’re not alone. Your home should support how your brain works, not work against it. This whole home makeover was proof that with the right strategies, patience, and a little fun, any space can go from chaos to calm.

Room-by-Room Summer Decluttering Checklist Everyone Needs

Spring cleaning may be behind us, but summer decluttering is just getting started. If you’re feeling a little overwhelmed by the mess that’s crept in during the cooler months—or maybe you just want to reclaim your space before the chaos of back-to-school hits—this room-by-room summer declutter is for you!

Garage/Sheds/Basements

Even if you don’t have a garage, your shed or basement or attic might be your dumping ground and now’s the time to tackle it head-on.  And if it’s something you forgot you had, chances are you don’t need it. Be ruthless!

Declutter This:

Expired or duplicate chemicals (think car oil, sprays, yard treatments)

Home project leftovers (random tiles, extra shelves, paint)

Broken or unnecessary tools and gadgets

Outgrown or unused sporting gear

Random cords, chargers, hoses—if you don’t know what they’re for, toss it!

Entryway & Mudroom

This area becomes a shoe graveyard and coat museum if we’re not careful.  So here’s a few things to look for and declutter to make space for what you’re actually using this season.

Old flip-flops and mismatched shoes

Outgrown kids’ shoes and cleats

Coats and jackets that are torn, out of style, or no longer fit

Reusable shopping bags (keep only a few favorites!)

Backyard & Outdoor Storage

Whether you have a patio, deck, or just a small balcony, outdoor stuff adds up fast!  And let’s face it – it’s hard to relax and  enjoy the great outdoors while staring at mountains of clutter.  Here’s a few thing to you should declutter for the season:

Expired sunscreen and bug spray

Moldy or deflated pool toys

Grimy BBQ tools (hello, tetanus risk!)

Duplicate or broken plant pots

Coolers you don’t use

Kitchen

Your fridge, freezer, and pantry deserve a little summer love too.

Declutter This:

Freezer-burned burgers or old popsicles

Expired condiments (especially milk- or egg-based dressings)

Takeout sauces and condiment packets

Pantry items that are stale or you just don’t like

Tip: Use bins to group condiments together so you can easily grab and go for outdoor meals (and it’s easy to put away too!)

Closet Clean-Out

It’s time to dress for this season of life and that means that if it doesn’t fit your body or your lifestyle, why is it still hanging there?  It’s time to get rid of:

Clothes that don’t fit (no more “someday” pants!)

Dresses that wrinkle easily or don’t make you feel fabulous

Shoes that hurt, slide, or don’t match anything

Duplicate or “meh” pieces

Bathing suits you don’t love (or have lost their elasticity)

Paper Clutter

Paper is one of those things that tends to pile up quickly !  This time of year, it’s good to go through and get rid of:

School artwork and calendars from earlier this year

Flyers, expired coupons, and catalogs

Notebooks, random scribbles, and paperwork you no longer need

Tip: For memory keepsakes use a simple bin to store them and then ditch the rest guilt-free!

Summer Declutter BINGO!

Want to make this fun? Print off a Summer Decluttering Bingo sheet (yep, I’ve got a free one linked below!) and it’s got 20 things to declutter this summer. aim to cross off as many items as you can.

How to FAKE a Clean House

You absolutely CAN fake clean your home!  If you want your home to look clean and tidy… but you don’t want to constantly clean and tidy it – this is for you!   If you walked into my house right now, you’d probably think, “Wow, she really has it together.” But here’s the truth: it’s not actually clean—it’s just tidy. I fake it. And today, I’m spilling all my lazy-girl secrets so you can do it too.

Step 1: Declutter Like a Pro

The golden rule: Less stuff = less mess.

Decluttering is the foundation of a tidy-looking home. But it doesn’t have to be painful or take forever. Here are four quick and powerful ways to declutter fast:

1. Rent a Dumpster

Extreme? Maybe. Effective? Absolutely. If you’re feeling buried under a decade of stuff, this is your shortcut to freedom. One day, one dumpster, and a whole lot less clutter.

2. Host a Free Sale

Drag everything you don’t love to your front yard, slap on a “FREE” sign, and maybe post a pic to Facebook Marketplace. You’ll be amazed—your stuff will disappear, and you’ll feel so much lighter !

3. Decluttering Party

Invite friends or family, offer pizza, and put them to work. You call the shots (“That’s trash,” “That goes to my sister”), and they do the running. It’s weirdly fun and wildly effective.

4. The Pack-Up Method

If letting go feels like too much, pack it up instead. Label boxes with what’s inside, store them out of sight, and put an expiration date on them. Haven’t missed it in three months? Donate the whole box. No guilt required.

Step 2: Organize the Lazy Way

Let’s get real: traditional organizing takes forever. But you don’t need perfection—just function. That’s where sorted clutter catchers come in.

Create Five Easy Bins:

Urgent (stuff you can’t lose)

Home (light bulbs, tools, etc.)

Family (kids’ or pets’ stuff)

Personal (beauty, accessories, etc.)

Paper (mail, coupons, flyers)

Drop stuff in the right bin instead of dumping it all into one big  “doom box.” You’ll actually be able to find things, and putting stuff away later is a breeze. Bonus: You can even leave these bins out on the counter. It still looks better than clutter piles!

Step 3: Train Yourself to Be Tidy

I used to be a total tornado. If I can train myself to be tidy, so can you. Here’s how:

1. Adopt Simple Mantras:

“Don’t put it down—put it away.”

“Surfaces are lava.” (If you set it down, it burns!)

“Never leave a room empty-handed.”

Repeat these like affirmations. They work.

2. Set Yourself Up for Lazy Success

Put baskets where you usually drop stuff. Hooks where coats get dumped. Hampers in every room. Trash cans with no lids. Make putting things away just as easy as dropping them.

3. Schedule 5-Minute Tidy Sessions

Set two or three daily alarms. When it goes off, spend just five minutes tidying. These mini-sessions build muscle memory and turn tidying into a habit. Soon, you’ll do it automatically—no alarm needed.

Step 4: Fake Cleaning That Looks Real

Yes, you still need to clean a little—but we’re not talking elbow grease and all-day scrubbing here. We’re talking shortcuts that look legit.  (But hey, if you’re thinking next up is some deep cleaning – I got you – you can check here for inspo)

Must-Haves:

Robot Vacuum: Game-changer. Set it, forget it. It vacuums and mops. Total win.

Swiffer Duster: It traps dust like a champ. Quick swipe = clean enough.

Foaming Glass Cleaner + Tightwave Microfiber Cloth: Bye-bye smudges, hello sparkle. Skip the paper towels.

Spray-and-Walk-Away Cleaners: For gross build-up in showers and toilets. Spray it, leave it, wipe later. Zero scrubbing.

Bonus Tip: The Power of Smell

Let’s be honest—people notice smells more than mess. And the worst part? You might be nose-blind to your own house.

Febreze (unscented or scented) actually traps odour molecules so your nose can’t detect them. Spray couches, beds, curtains—any soft surface that might hold onto funky smells. Your home won’t just look tidy—it’ll smell clean too.

So there you have it – you don’t have to clean more to have a clean-looking home. You just need smart systems and a few lazy hacks that work.

A Craft Room Makeover You Won’t Believe!

Have you ever walked into a room in your home and just felt… dread? That overwhelming “Where do I even start?” feeling that zaps your creativity before you can even begin?

That was Lise’s reality. Lise’s Clutterbug organizing style was Bee and her craft room—once her joyful escape and creative hub—had morphed into a cluttered maze filled with forgotten projects, emotional attachments, and too many “what-if” supplies. But she was ready for change!   With some encouragement,  a whole lot of bins and heart, we helped Lise reclaim her space and her spark. Here’s how we did it.   (Get the Kleenex ready, this is an emotional (and beautiful!)  transformation.

The Craft Room That Became a Disaster Zone

Lise’s craft room wasn’t just a mess—it was an emotional minefield. This large, sunny space had so much potential, but over time, it had become overwhelmed with fabric, tools, supplies, and memories. After her mother passed away, Lise lost her motivation to create, and the clutter piled up.

Every crafter knows that “just in case” items, unfinished projects, and sentimental bits can take over. For Lise, every scrap of fabric or half-used bottle of glue held a story. But the truth was, the clutter was blocking her from doing what she loved.

The First Step: Decluttering

We started small. Just 10 items to donate or toss—no overthinking allowed! This “flash declutter” wasn’t about digging deep. It was about momentum and confidence.

The rule? If it’s not a hard yes, it’s a hard no.

Lise surprised even herself with how quickly she let go of things. Cricut pens she never used? Gone. Random decor? Bye-bye. We primed the pump, and her mindset started to shift.

Tackling Identity Clutter

Craft rooms are personal. They’re reflections of who we are, what we love, and sometimes even our livelihoods. For Lise, the room was filled with “identity clutter”—remnants of past projects, businesses, and hobbies she no longer connected with.

Letting go of unused supplies—like fabric from her mask-making days—wasn’t just about freeing up space. It was about honoring who she was, while making room for who she’s becoming.

Finding Purpose in the Chaos

With every bin sorted and shelf cleared, Lise rediscovered her passion. We created clear zones in the room: a business station for her Cricut tools and sublimation press, a cozy corner for sewing, and a sweet little nook just for her granddaughter to craft alongside her.

And guess what? We even upcycled old items—like a forgotten corkboard and vintage kid’s table—to add personality and function to the space.

Finishing Touches

To make the space truly Lise’s, we leaned into her love for gardening. We decorated with floral fabric-covered corkboards, colorful watering cans for supplies, and whimsical floral wall decals—flowers, bees, butterflies—tucked in unexpected corners to spark joy.

Organization doesn’t have to be boring. With clear bins, color-coordinated labels, and a few creative touches, we turned the room into a visual treat.

On reveal day, Lise’s reaction said it all.  She was shaking with joy…and then we ALL found ourselves actually found ourselves crying happy tears) . Her once overwhelming space had become a dreamy, functional haven.

Final Thoughts from Lise

“Be ready to let go of stuff that isn’t serving you. Thank it, bless it, and let someone else love it. You’ve got to get rid of stuff before you can truly enjoy the good stuff.”

Lise’s story reminds us that transformation isn’t just about bins and labels—it’s about emotional growth. It’s about making room for joy, creativity, and connection.

Are You Ready for Your Transformation?

If your craft space (or any space!) feels like a burden instead of a blessing, start small. Ten things. One drawer. One shelf. You’ll be amazed how quickly clarity and calm can follow.

And remember—you’re not a failure if you can’t crochet or if you never finished that DIY kit. You’re a brilliant, creative woman who deserves a space that inspires her.

You’ve got this. 💛

Stop Chasing Happiness: Why You’re Never Satisfied (and How to Fix It)

If you’ve ever found yourself saying, “I’ll be happy when…” — when the house is clean, when the kids are older, when you finally get that promotion or dream kitchen — you’re not alone. Maybe you’re always chasing the next goal, the next purchase, the next big thing… but somehow, happiness still feels out of reach.

In this episode, I’m getting real about something I’ve been struggling with for years: destination addiction. It’s that constant feeling of needing more to finally feel content. And spoiler alert — it’s not just a mindset issue… it’s biology. It’s what psychologists call the hedonic treadmill, and friends, I’ve been sprinting on it for most of my adult life.

So today, I’m hitting pause. I’m sharing the science behind why we adapt so quickly to the good stuff, why our happiness resets to “meh,” and what we can actually do about it. If you’ve been feeling chronically dissatisfied, overwhelmed, or like you’re missing the joy in your already-amazing life — this one’s for you.

Whether you’re in full hustle mode or feeling a little lost between “next big things,” this episode is your permission slip to slow down, breathe, and start appreciating the incredible life you’re living right now.

✨ In this episode, I talk about:

What the “hedonic treadmill” really means — and how it keeps us stuckHow society, social media, and even ADHD feed into our addiction to “more”The emotional crash that comes after a big milestoneWhy midlife crises aren’t what we think they areHow to raise your “baseline” and feel truly content againSimple but powerful ways to practice gratitude and presence every day

💛 This isn’t about giving up on dreams. It’s about learning to love the life you’ve already built.
