A Strategy for Handling Anxiety

A Strategy for Handling Anxiety

Anxiety permeates every aspect of our lives. The fast pace of life, constant comparisons from social media, and world uncertainties make many of us feel overwhelmed. Despite digital connections, many carry their burdens alone.

Telling someone not to be anxious doesn’t help. In fact, it often backfires. That’s why Paul’s words in Philippians 4:6—“Do not be anxious about anything”—can feel almost impossible at first glance.

Yet Paul doesn’t leave us with a command alone; he gives us a strategy.

The S...

The Gift of Romance (Song of Songs 1:1-2:7)

The Gift of Romance (Song of Songs 1:1-2:7)

Big Idea: Romantic love is a gift, but it creates powerful desires that shouldn’t be unleashed too soon.

The Song of Songs, like romantic love, is confusing and a little embarrassing.

It’s confusing. I had no idea when I picked this book how confusing it is. We've just completed the Book of Revelation, which is likely the most challenging book in the New Testament to understand and interpret. Now we’re in the Song of Songs, which may be the hardest book in the Old Testament to understand and inter...

We're Only Scratching the Surface of Scripture

We're Only Scratching the Surface of Scripture

If you have a couple of extra hours, or even if you don't, you really should listen to this interview with Jim Hamilton on the Room for Nuance podcast (Apple Podcasts | Spotify| YouTube). It's about his new book on the literary structure of the Gospel of John. I listened while I was exercising and kept wishing I had a pen to write down some of the insights. The podcast blew my mind. Even though I've read the Gospel of John many times and have even preached through it, I saw things and made conne...

When a Christian Leader Fails

When a Christian Leader Fails

The news made me feel sick.

A pastor—a man I had respected—had been caught in secret sin. Even worse, he’d covered it up. When he was found out, he resigned, leaving behind a trail of devastation.

Sadly, this hasn’t happened just once in my life. How do we respond when a Christian leader falls? What if it’s our own pastor? How do we navigate the doubt, make sense of it all, and move forward well?

Face What Happened

One of the first and most important steps is to face facts. It’s challenging to proce...

When You Feel Abandoned (Isaiah 40)

When You Feel Abandoned (Isaiah 40)

Big Idea: God's plans for you are good, his greatness knows no bounds, and he invites you to connect your weakness to his limitless power, finding in him all that you need.

Have you ever felt utterly hopeless? Sometimes, we encounter crises that make us feel alone and overwhelmed by our challenges. It can feel as though life is falling apart, with no relief in sight.

What do you do when you lose someone you love and are overwhelmed with grief? When you're confronted with a sudden diagnosis or chro...

We'll Never Get Tired of Seeing God's Face

We'll Never Get Tired of Seeing God's Face

A year ago, in the dead of winter, we flew to Mexico and stayed at an all-inclusive resort. The food was plentiful. The beach was beautiful. It felt great to escape from winter and most of my responsibilities.

A few days in, I found myself asking: Is this it? I first noticed it in the buffet. Although we had hundreds of options for food, I began to tire of the same options every day. I began to tire of the same room, the same beaches, and the same resort.

I’ve seen this in other areas of life, too...
