What Will and Won’t Exist in Eternity

What Will and Won’t Exist in Eternity

It’s interesting to think about what will and won’t be in the new heavens and the new earth.

What Will Exist?

I like good Indian food. Scratch that. I like all Indian food, as well as Korean, Thai, Malaysian…I could go on.

I used to think that cultures, including food and languages, would disappear on the new earth.

Scripture doesn't appear to support this. In fact, Revelation 21:26 says that people will bring the best of each culture to God.

The resurrected Jesus ate food (John 21:9). We can expect ...

What's Wrong With the World?(Romans 1:18-23)

What's Wrong With the World?(Romans 1:18-23)

Big Idea: Humanity's ultimate problem is God's righteous wrath against our suppression of truth, but Jesus Christ provides the only solution through the gospel.

What’s wrong with the world? That may be one of the most important questions you ever answer, because how you answer will determine the solutions you pursue.

People often answer the question, "What's wrong with the world?" in ways that reflect their worldview, experiences, and assumptions about human nature. Here are some common responses:...

Unexpected Blessings

Unexpected Blessings

A year ago, we went on vacation to Lake Tahoe. We prayed that God would surprise us with unexpected blessings that week. We had nothing particular in mind except that we wanted to be refreshed and enjoy his creation. God answered that prayer, and it turned out to be one of the best vacations we've experienced in recent memory. Every day was full of surprises.

One day, we decided to go for a hike. We weren't sure if we could finish the hike due to a lack of proper equipment, but we nearly complete...

Why We're Not Ashamed (Romans 1:16-17)

Why We're Not Ashamed (Romans 1:16-17)

Big Idea: Never be ashamed of the gospel because it’s powerful, it’s for everyone, and it’s very good news.

Picture the city of Rome around 57 AD. Rome stood as the undisputed center of the known world. It wasn’t just a city; it was the heart of an empire that stretched from Britain to North Africa, from Spain to the Middle East. With over a million residents, it was the largest city of its time, serving as a center of political power, military strength, and cultural impact.

Imagine exploring the ...

What a Privilege

What a Privilege

If you've ever run a race, you've likely seen supporters holding up signs as they cheer you on. Many of the signs are lighthearted and familiar: "Worst parade ever!" "Pain is just French for bread." "Therapy would have been easier." "All this for a banana?"

But at the TCS Toronto Marathon on Sunday, one spectator held up a sign that stood out: "What a privilege!" It was a simple message, but profound. In the middle of the exhaustion and effort, it may not have felt like a privilege to the runners...

What Happens at Home

What Happens at Home

In most professions, one’s personal life remains private. But pastoring is different. How a pastor lives at home profoundly impacts his ministry.

According to Paul, what happens at home makes or breaks his ministry.

His marriage matters. An elder must be "the husband of one wife" (1 Timothy 3:2, Titus 1:6). This is perhaps the most disputed qualification on the list. At the very least, it means that the pastor is not a polygamist. He is maritally and sexually faithful to his wife. He is a one-woma...

Introducing Romans (Romans 1:1-7)

Introducing Romans (Romans 1:1-7)

Big Idea: Romans is from a gospel-transformed apostle who wrote to a gospel-created church about the gospel that changes everything.

Today, we’re embarking on a study of the most important letter ever written. The book of Romans stands as the theological masterpiece of the New Testament, a profound articulation of Christian doctrine that has shaped both individual faith and church history for centuries.

Martin Luther, whose own life was changed by this book, said that it is “the chief part of the ...
