We'll Never Get Tired of Seeing God's Face

We'll Never Get Tired of Seeing God's Face

A year ago, in the dead of winter, we flew to Mexico and stayed at an all-inclusive resort. The food was plentiful. The beach was beautiful. It felt great to escape from winter and most of my responsibilities.

A few days in, I found myself asking: Is this it? I first noticed it in the buffet. Although we had hundreds of options for food, I began to tire of the same options every day. I began to tire of the same room, the same beaches, and the same resort.

I’ve seen this in other areas of life, too...

The Preacher's Trust

The Preacher's Trust

Every preacher faces a defining question when stepping into the pulpit: Where will I place my trust? This question reveals not only our understanding of ministry but also our view of God and ourselves.

The weight of self-awareness is unavoidable. We know our sins, doubts, and failures. The harsh words spoken, the impatience shown, the prayers neglected—these memories often resurface as Sunday approaches. The psalmist’s words resonate: “If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?” ...

Why We're Called to the Nations (Psalm 117)

Why We're Called to the Nations (Psalm 117)

Big Idea: We are called to the nations because God wants people from every cultural group to praise him because his love is great and his faithfulness endures forever.

This is the shortest psalm with the biggest message. In fact, it’s the shortest chapter in the Bible. You can read it out loud in 15 seconds or less, but make no mistake: as Derik Kidner says, it “is great in faith, and its reach is enormous... The shortest psalm proves, in fact, to be one of the most potent and most seminal.” It h...

Making Sense of the Trinity

Making Sense of the Trinity

“The doctrine of the Trinity is difficult and perplexing to us,” wrote R.C. Sproul. No kidding! As Tim Keller once said, the doctrine of the Trinity overloads our mental circuits.

And yet it’s crucial that we understand the basics about the Trinity. For one thing, understanding what God reveals about himself is important. But the Trinity also makes a difference in how we live as Christian men.

The Trinity holds two biblical truths at the same time.

First, God is one. “Listen, Israel: The LORD our G...

What Revelation's Designed to Do (Revelation 22:6-21)

What Revelation's Designed to Do (Revelation 22:6-21)

Big Idea: Revelation is written to increase your confidence in God's plan, prepare you for Jesus' return, and make you long for his coming.

We’re in our 27th and final sermon through the book of Revelation. If you’ve been here all along, we’ve just spent almost 20 hours trying to understand the book of Revelation. We've examined beasts, bowls, seals, and plagues. We’ve all been stretched to understand and to deal with what we don’t understand and also see differently.

And now we have to ask: what’...

A Murderer and a Liar

A Murderer and a Liar

Imagine being offered a deal that seems too good to be true. Upon investigation, you discover that the person making the offer is a convicted murderer and a habitual liar. You would back away, realizing the deal is too good to be true and the person offering it cannot be trusted. Never do business with someone who is a proven murderer and liar, especially when you could be their next target.

In John 8:44, Jesus reveals what Satan, our tempter and accuser, is really like. “He was a murderer from t...
