The Lost World or The Gnostic World?

The film Is Genesis History? has gained a lot of attention from Christians and Non-Christians alike. Young Earth Creationists loved it, Non-Christians ridiculed it, and Old Earth and Evolutionary Creationists were dismayed by more scientific nonsense being pedaled by the young earth crowd all in the name of upholding the trustworthiness of scripture when The Bible does not require a young earth. Love it or hate it, buy it or bash it, Is Genesis History? got a lot of publicity.

As I recently fo...

Why There’s No Conflict Between Evolution and a Historical Adam

Before I became an Evolutionary Creationist, I spent two years combing through the theological and scientific literature. I read lots of blog posts on BioLogo.org, and read books written by Evolutionary Creationists such as “The Language Of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence For Belief” by Francis Collins, “Deliver Us From Evolution? A Christian Scientists In-Depth Look At The Evidence Reveals A Surprising Harmony Between Science and God” by Aaron R Yilmaz, and” How I Changed My...

Responding To Jim Bendewald’s 7 Objections To The Cosmic Temple View Of Genesis 1

I recently wrote a blog post called “The Cosmic Temple View Of Genesis 1” which defends an interpretation that says that Genesis 1 is not an account of material origins, but of functional origins. That is, it’s not about God physically bringing things into being from non-being, but about ascribing functions to already existing things. This is what people in the Ancient Near East understood creation to be about. They understood the existence of a thing in terms of how it functioned...

Response To Hugh Ross’ Objections To The Cosmic Temple View Of Genesis 1

Recently, I wrote a blog post defending an interpretation of Genesis 1 called “The Cosmic Temple Inauguration View” which you can read about by clicking here. In this blog post, I will be addressing some objections to this view from an article written by Dr. Hugh Ross of Reasons To Believe. I have a deep respect for Hugh Ross and have benefitted greatly from his writings and the work he’s done at RTB. I learned a lot about Big Bang cosmology and the cosmic and local fine-tuning co...

William Lane Craig's Criticisms Of The Cosmic Temple View Of Genesis One - Part 2

In this post, I continue addressing William Lane Craig's Critique of The Cosmic Temple Inaguration view of Genesis 1 (CTI) defended in books such as John Walton's The Lost World Of Genesis One. Click here to read the previous blog post. Dr. Craig is interacting with Walton's book The Lost World Of Genesis One in his Defenders class.

Why Not Both? Why Not Both? Why Not Both?

First, Craig rightly points out that "days 1 to 3 establish various functions, and then days 4 to 6 establish f...

William Lane Craig's Criticisms Of The Cosmic Temple View Of Genesis One - Part 1

William Lane Craig is my number 1 all time favorite Christian philosopher and apologist. He is the one Christian Apologist whose views most closely align with my own concerning Arguments for God's Existence, the methodology of using the minimal facts to establish the historicity of Jesus' resurrection, Arminian soteriology, Molinism, and many other areas. I scarcely find myself uttering the words "William Lane Craig is wrong about X". Craig has had the biggest influence on the intellectual ro...

The Cosmic Temple View Of Genesis One

Genesis 1 is perhaps one of the most controversial and hotly debated passages in the entire Bible. There are many different interpretations of this chapter that have been proposed over the centuries, and I don't pretend to be doing anything different here. However, I have noticed that the majority of attempts to interpret Genesis 1 have neglected to take the book's ancient cultural background into consideration. Instead many attempts look at what modern science has to say and then either rein...
