Q&A: How Do We Know Logic Is Reliable?

Greetings. To offer some preliminary remarks: I admit this question isn't very theological, it's much more philosophical, born out curiosity. Nevertheless, I do believe it's an interesting question that deserves some level of reflection, even for Christians.

With that being said, here's the question: How do we know our most basic principles of reasoning (the Law of Non-contradiction, Modes ponens, etc.) are true? As you can see, it's an epistemological question, and I've found two main answers...

God's Freedom To Love Revisited

I was listening to another of Tim Stratton's FreeThinking Podcast episodes and they were talking about Greg Koukl's objection to the argument for libertarian free will from love. For those who don't know, this argument argues that if human beings don't have libertarian free will, then human beings don't really posess love. And there are arguments that I have given for that elsewhere on this website and in my writings.

One of Koukl's objections is that if libertarian free will is required for h...

PODCAST Ep 2: The Kalam Cosmological Argument For God's Existence (Part 1)

Many would be surprised to know that there are good reasons to believe that God exists. You don't have to take God's existence on blind faith alone. There's evidence for God. The Kalam Cosmological Argument is one of them. This argument, initially formulated by the 11th century philosopher Al Ghazali and popularized by contemporary philosopher Dr. William Lane Craig, argues to the existence of a Creator from the law of causality and the fact that the universe had a beginning to its existence...

Q&A: Chris Hansen's Objections To The Moral Argument

To whom it may concern

Hey not sure if Dr. Minton will be who reads this. I know you're busy so I doubt this email will be chosen as your question of the week. I found an atheist blog and I was hoping you could help me out. I'm having a lot of trouble answering his objections to the moral argument. I'm wondering if it really is as bad as he says or if there are apologists who can help? I hope you or someone from your team has an answer.

1 - He says that God regrets in the Bible? If that is true...

Philosophy Is For Everyone

This is a Guest Post written by Colin Burgess. It is posted here with his permission.

“Philosophy is everybody’s business.” – J. Mortimer Adler.

Aristotle opened his opus on philosophy, The Metaphysics, with, “All men by nature desire to know.” Nothing could be truer, when one begins to ask the ‘why’ questions, one is taking intellectual responsibility for constructing their weltanschauung, or worldview. No longer are they taking their thoughts or beliefs for granted, but are rebelling ag...

This is the first episode of The Cerebral Faith Podcast! In this episode, your host Evan Minton explains what this podcast is about. The podcast is about Christian Apologetics; a defense of the truth of Christianity. Christianity meets the demands of the intellect, not just the demands of the heart. Q&A: Two E-Mail Questions About The Ontological Argument

Hey, Evan. The Lord Jesus bless you greatly. First of all, I congratulate you for your apologetic and philosophical work both for general Christianity and for the Arminian and Molinist visions.

Although I am a Christian and the ontological argument seems excellent to me, I have some discomforts that I hope you can help me solve.

1) Doesn't the Ontological Argument take as a starting point what our conclusion should be? It seems that the argument begins with the idea of God (instead of demonstra...

Q&A: Are Omniscience And Libertarian Free Will Incompatible?

Greetings. Can you respond to my syllogism that I think demonstrates that free will is incompatible with omniscience?

Premise 1. An Omniscient God and knows all things including future human decisions.
Premise 2. Free Will requires that we are able to choose more then one option ("I choose A but I could have chosen B instead").
Premise 3. If God knows for 100% sure what I will do in the future (choose Option A) then I have to choose Option A otherwise I may choose something else and he could be...
