Celebrating the Gift of Life

Celebrating the Gift of Life

“Life can be beautiful, inspiring, challenging, and it can be difficult at times. I think the best points of life is to learn, grow, and understand that we are each created in God’s image and out of His perfect love. We are all also born covered by God’s grace.

We Are All Part of One Global Family

Part of the beauty of all of God’s creations are the differences we are each blessed with. No two roses are exactly the same, though they are all beautiful and worthy of our admiration. Just as there is beauty in the variety of flowers, trees, and seasons, there is beauty, grace, and variation in all of God’s people. We each have different talents, gifts, and blessings. We are all unique, relevant, and worthy in God’s eyes. No one person is loved more or less by God. He made us out of the same two people, which makes us all family.

Embrace Who You Are

One of the best things that I think we can do for humanity is to embrace our unique gifts and use them to help each other live better, healthier, and happier lives. Not everyone is meant to be a lawyer, a doctor, a nurse, a pilot, or a teacher, yet we all have been blessed with God-given talents and the ability to master many skills.

Everyone Has Their Special Talents and Gifts

Some talents show up early in life, some are found during education or instruction, and for others, the gifts are hidden deep within. The talent may show up later in life or be brought to the surface during a hardship or a crisis. I believe some of the bests skills come out and blossom under difficult situations wear as others are always second nature.

Everyone has something to share and give to the world. Never doubt that you, too, are blessed with god-given gifts. Keep looking and searching your heart to find yours. Remember that each of us is important and needed in God’s world.“

Standing and Living Through the Pain

I became visually impaired 15 years ago after retinal surgeries. Since that time I have been lost in pain, in my emotions, and my mind. I have struggled to find a way to find the parts of myself that I felt were lost.

Using Writing to Find New Blessings and Possibilities

One of the things that I have always loved doing is writing. Writing is how I have always processed my world. Now it is how I am finding my way back to me. A few years ago, my children gave me an iPad. I started talking into the iPad, and then Siri came about. The new technology helped revive me, and it opened up my world to new possibilities. I am now able to find the blessings that remain in my life.

Finding Help with Assistive Technology

I rely on Siri every day. To help me find my thoughts, make lists, track my health, my medication and to live with some normalcy. Siri has become a lifeline to my trying to find a way to recover more of who I am. I know my life will never be the same; now I am learning what it can be.

Finding My Way and Living in Spite of the Pain

Fighting pain daily and writing about the struggle helped me realize that every moment in life is precious and that we must learn to celebrate the good days as well as the trying days in order to understand the full purpose and beauty of our life. Writing has brought me through the years of disabling pain, and it allows me to keep standing through my storms. I continue to write and to share my thoughts to help others find their voices too.

Everyone is Important

I want people to understand that we are more alike than we are not. I also want them to realize that their lives matter no matter how impaired or disabled their bodies become. Please know that no matter what challenges you face in life, you will always matter and you can find a way through your storm.

Finding Light In The Darkness

I wanted to share a little more about why I write. I have loved words since I was a little girl. Once I learned to read, I never stopped seeking knowledge. As I grew, I found joy in books and gravitated to the library.

My first poem in second grade was read out loud to the class and I was hooked on poetry from that moment. The elementary school librarian told me about Maya Angelou and I fell in love with her writing style, storytelling flair, and inspiring words. From that moment on I thought I would be a novelist or a poet. I read everything in the school library by Maya and then sought her out in the public library.

Finding Hope After The Eye Injuries

That little girl’s love of poetry continues to live in my heart. After my eye injuries, I went into a spiral of pain, loss, fear, hurt and anger. When I was at the worse point in my life, I turned back to writing poetry, prayers, and prose. Then the light returned to my world. A loved one took Ill and shared their dream of me publishing a book. That was how my first collection came to be.

Finding A New Purpose

I was elated to see how much the people in my life supported me in finding a new purpose and fulfilling my new dreams. I had written to myself for years and just kept poring my heart out. All of the things that I had written to God seeking understanding, looking for my purpose and opening up my heart through my tears, ended up being perfect words to help others heal too.

Living A New Dream

I am glad that God has given me a new purpose. It was hard not being able to keep my career and even harder just trying to get through the daily pain. Sometimes I just can’t stop the tears from falling. My pain come from Chronic Reginal Pain Syndrome and often over looked and misdiagnosed illness. I’ll share more about that in a latter post. Enjoy your day and remember to smile.

Wishing you love, peace, joy, and happiness.

Writing Gives Me Hope and Purpose

I choose to write because it brings structure to my mind, eases some of my chronic pain, helps me find inner peace, and it assists me in understanding what I am physically going through. In a way, writing has given me parts of my life back. Writing opened up my world and helped me find a path to hope, new purpose, and a deeper understanding of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), and my health challenges. Everyone wants to feel alive, have hope, and know that they serve a purpose in the world.

The inspirational and empowering words of encouragement I share helps me feel useful, keeps me sane in a sometimes insane world, and allows me to reach the souls of others. The power of heartfelt, uplifting words can touch someone and reassure them that they are not alone. My words of encouragement, faith sentiments and positive affirmations remind people that’s their thoughts are valid, and allows them to connect with me, and helps them see that someone gets their troubles and recognizes their pain.

At first the creative writing was an attempt at distraction and a source for me to try tracking the changes in my eyes; kind of like a research paper. Not in a thesis kind of way, but more like a wake up call to look for deeper meaning in the circumstances. I thought that maybe I was missing something that would cure, reverse the nerve damage, or remove some of the pain. My biggest fear was that the answers were right in front of me and that me and my physicians were missing a link to recovering my normal life. At least that was my hope. I thought I could mind map the problem, find the answer to the missing medical solution and I would get the “fix” to permanently remove the deep eye pain, swelling, and Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD).

I still believe that there is a cure on the horizon for Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy and that science, rational thinking, and my need for relief will lead me to effective treatment. I have learned a lot through writing, but I have not learned about a true 100% cure. New treatment options are always surfacing, and unfortunately more people’s eyes are being damaged by RSD. For almost all of the new eye RSD cases I have listened to, their RSD did not start in their eyes. Though there has been a rash of reports of less than favorable outcomes after lasik eye treatments that are resulting in similar types of pain issues.

By gathering my thoughts, focusing, writing and in some cases journaling, I have learned many helpful truths. The following lists are some of the best thoughts and most important life lessons I can share with you:

That we should always hold onto our dreams, or at least be willing to build new opportunities and embrace new dreams if life throws you a curb. The best way to survive any challenge you may face, is to maintain focus. That you can never afford to let anything take your will to survive. You must always hold onto your hope, and remain flexible to live and create a productive life. Survival is possible if you can find enough will to live. Chronic pain can take your mind and your life if you let it.No matter what knocks you down, you must keep getting back up, planting your feet, dusting yourself off, and getting back into the ring again. We are built to survive and thrive in spite of life’s setbacks.

One of the best lessons that I now realize is that the human spirit has so much more strength than we are able to comprehend. Writing has helped me realize that some of that strength can be tapped into and used even when you are suffering unimaginable pain and that maybe if you change your view of the suffering, the physical pain, and the emotional hurt, you can still find a route to joy, purpose, and you may find some happiness too.

A route to joy, hope, and happiness is what my inspirational collection, Poetry from the Heart is all about. It is about people experiencing life and all of life’s challenges and still finding a way to survive the toughest season of their life. It is about standing tall in the truth about whatever it is that you are going through. You could be going through pain, chronic illness, or some other life changing injury, accident or situation that cause you to disconnect or break from the life you envisioned, desired, and dreamt of for yourself and your family.

If you are struggling in life, and you can find a passion or source of encouragement, you can find a way to connect. Even if you think your pain, injury, loss or grief is too deep, trust and believe that even though you have a break in that bridge, you can find ways to rebuilt and help you return to society as a more fuller happier being than you have been in the past.

I don’t have full use of my eyes, and I do not often have pain free moments. But when I can function, I function with purpose. My thought is maybe the reason we have the battles we do, is to find out how strong we are so we can help others find their way too.

You may not get everything that you want back, but you can get portions of your life back. You can learn to smile again. You can actually help others smile, and you can find ways to enjoy the rest of your life. Even in a compromised state, we all have a purpose.

My Morning Pep Talk

I am sharing my morning pep talk. I wrote these words to remind myself on my most difficult days that life is fine, and I am going to be okay. As I listen to these words and absorb the power in them, I become empowered, encouraged and inspired.

Some days when I wake my eyes are almost swollen shut. They are usually sore, and they are often tender. Often they spasm, twitch, pull and sometimes they feel like they are flipping in my eye socket. It is always a battle, and I cannot always use them. Even when I can use one or both eyes, it is sporadic. I have learned to do many things with my eyes closed.

Some days due to the level of pain, I can do nothing. I medicate, meditate, pray and use warm compresses. I have learned to listen to my body and follow my health for the day. It’s difficult to admit just how hard most of my days are.

I hope that these words will help you find some encouragement to continue fighting whatever storms you face on your most difficult days. Replace my health issue with what causes you the most difficulty in your life.

My Morning Pep Talk

Here is the deal, as a Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) and chronic pain survivor you are fortunate and blessed to be alive. You can only do what you can physically do. Give your best effort each day, and you will continue to make progress. Your steps may not be significant, grand or pretty, but they are your steps to make. Find and hold tightly to the moments of joy in your journey. Embrace what you can do. Focus on your blessings, find Joy and share positivity. Your life matters and you have a purpose. Rejoice in the life that you have. Love who you are and what you have.

I am hoping you have great pain free and healthy days, but if you don’t, remember that you are okay. Do the best you can each day. That is all anyone can ask of you.

A time to live is now

I want to encourage you to make time to do the little things that matter most. The things that you think about, that bring warmth to your heart and a smile to your face. Often these are the things that we truly long for. They are the things we say “I will do that after the children are grown.”, “When I finish my degree.” “Next year.” or you might say “Once I retire I will have more time for that.”

What life is showing me every day is that the time for living is now. The time for enjoying your life is now. Do not miss out on the “Little things.” Often it is those little things that make the biggest difference and most favorite memories of our lifetime.

Take time to do something for yourself. Visit someone you love. Stop and make the call, write the email or the letter you keep putting off. Buy the small item that you think about all the time that makes you smile. Eat your favorite dessert. Take yourself to the park. Go to the movies or ride the ferry just for fun and daydream. Do whatever you want that will give you the most joy so that you are really enjoying your life.

Think about what you really want to be doing right now, at this moment more than anything else in the world?

Choose to make the choices and the decisions that make you the happiest, so that you are living each day without regrets and enjoying more of the precious moments of your life. Give yourself the love that you desire most. Blessing of peace, love, joy, and happiness are yours to enjoy every day. You are worthy of the joyful life that you seek. Reach for the best times of your life right now.” ~CMW

The Light That is You

There are days that I am unable to open my eyes due to severe eye pain and constant eye swelling. I do my best to stay motivated and uplifted.

And yet, it is often during those most difficult times that I get my clearest connection with my core intuition and I feel God’s Spirit most. It is in those times when I call to Him through prayer that I find the depths of my strength.

Sometimes it seems that my tears do not stop falling. Some days it is all that I can do to stand and try to make it through my day.

I am sharing this with you so that you realize we all have battles to fight. I want you to know that you are never alone. Even when you feel your worst, God is sending you His best.

If I had never felt the deepest pain, understood the darkest valleys and walked through the fire, I would not have a testimony or a purpose in your life. There is always a bright spot, silver lining and a different way to look at our struggles. There is also always a way through our pain. We must keep walking forward, pushing past difficulties, challenges, and pain to find our purpose and to fulfill our God-given destiny.

I have written songs, prayers and poetry to God ever since I learned to write in the 2nd or 3rd grade. I never knew that the words in my heart would have so much meaning. Thank you for helping me find a bigger purpose for my pain and for my life. Thank you for helping me find joy in my hardest days.

The light that is You has a special place in my heart. It is where I lay my heart open in prayer to God and I ask Him the toughest questions of my heart. Through my faith and my unwavering belief in Him as a loving Father that I imagine what His loving response is to His beloved child crying out for a deeper understanding.[image error]

I am including the purchase link for this volume as I believe it will touch you in the same way that it continues to touch and uplift my spirit.

Please let me know your thoughts.

If you have already read this volume, I know you understand my heart and why I often listen to this specific collection to stay inspired.

Thank you for listening to my thoughts today.
