Virtual Book Tour ~ Cubeball by Michael Leon
Cubeball
by Michael Leon
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Sci-fi
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
A naturally gifted ex-national champion and a savant with a computer-like mind compete against the world’s best in the 22nd century’s most popular sport – CUBEBALL – the chess-like, technology-enhanced, snooker of the future where the world stage is dominated by gambling, drugs and massive audiences.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BOOK EXCERPT
Jules’ gaze emboldened Mickey to reveal his special gift to her. He strode confidently to the cue-ball and lined up one of the most difficult shots in cubeball. Then with little thought, he cracked the cue-ball with a force that matched the passion he was feeling. The curve on the first line was more pronounced than the programmed line set by the computer.
Mickey had struck the perfect shot. Sam and Riley sat staring at the console, mesmerised by what they had just seen and eager to re-capture its perfection on replay. Only champions could play this way and it was clear to all that Mickey was developing into one.
“Fucking incredible,” said Johnnie. His eyes were wide. Filled with awe for Mickey’s skills and expectation with how much he could earn from it.
Mickey didn’t hear his appreciative manager. He didn’t see the small tear that had formed in his kid sister’s admiring eye. His gaze remained on Jules. She brushed her hair back on to her shoulders before resting her slender hands on her hips. Her mouth was wide open, breathing in her excitement for what she had just seen. Then her eyes revealed that there was more to her feelings than that of an adoring fan. Her gaze began to fill with a stirring hunger. Fate was beginning to move into Mickey’s life like an evening moon tide.
Interview With … Hadena James
Hey folks. Today my guest is Hadena James. Author of Elysium Dreams.
Hadena. Tanks for being here today. Tell us about you.
I’m incredibly clumsy. I live in pajamas (when you work from home, why bother to change into real clothing when pajamas are so much more comfortable). I play steel-tip darts, which is sadly, a dying sport in the US. I crochet, however, I don’t have the patience to do afghans, so I mostly do scarves. And I actually love the show Ancient Aliens.
If you could hang out with one famous person for one day, who would it be and why?
That’s hard, but HP Lovecraft would win out by a hair, if I could raise him from the dead. His work had a huge influence on me. I love his ability to tell a great short story. The story Rats in the Walls is the only thing I have ever read that gave me nightmares, which is saying a lot, because I read a ton of horror. I can’t imagine what he would be like as a person, but it would be great to find out.
What’s the story behind your latest book?
Mutilated Dreams is my newest work and available for pre-order at the moment. The inspiration came when I was reading an article about tattoos. It was talking about how visible tattoos used to make us put a person in a certain stereotype, but that was changing and we, as a society, no longer frowned as heavily on them. So, I decided to see if I could do something with this societal norm change and came up with someone who was taking tattoos, but not killing the victims. It was completely different from anything I’d ever done before, especially with this series, since my serial killer wasn’t really a killer.
What is your writing process?
I sit down, open my computer, and start typing. Honestly, there is no best way for me to write a book. I do write better after dark, but I can listen to music, watch TV, watch a movie, or have complete silence and still write. And I’m notorious about writing even as I try to fall asleep. I used to keep a notebook by the bed, but it bothered my partner, because I’d be scribbling notes while he was trying to sleep. So, now I just hope I remember it the next day. Usually, I do.
Tell us about your main character:
Nineteen years ago, I set down to create a character that wasn’t like any female characters I had ever read. The result was Aislinn Cain. Cain is a female sociopath who comes from a long history of psychopaths. She’s asexual (sorry, she’ll never have a love interest), so she has very few weaknesses. She actively looks for abusers, killers, and others of those ilk and volunteers to be their victim with the intent of stopping them. She’s so good at it, she gets recruited for a special US Marshals team that does exactly that, stop serial killers. The reason she’s so good is because she was just as likely to be one of them as one of their hunters.
If your book was to be turned into a movie, who would play the lead role and why.
Milla Jovovich plays an excellent sociopath. She’s too old to play Aislinn Cain, since Cain is in her 20’s, but that’s who I’d want for the part.
What are you working on next?
In an unusual twist of Fate, I started writing book 11 in the Dreams & Reality books as soon as I sent Mutilated Dreams to the editor. I didn’t realize I was setting up Fortified Dreams as I wrote Mutilated Dreams, but I was and the moment I hit send, Fortified began to flow. By the time the editor had finished with Mutilated, I was half down with Fortified. Normally, I take a short break and write a Dysfunctional Chronicle novella (not horror), between my Dreams & Reality books just to cleanse my brain, but not this time.
What advice do you have for other writers who want to get the word out about their book?
You can never advertise enough. Give copies away to be read and reviewed. Sign up for the newsletters that offer free and discounted books and start dropping your prices from time to time and putting them in there. Do blog tours. Be active on social media (but don’t spam about your book). Listen and be willing to take advice from writers who write full time.
What is your favorite book on your shelf right now?
The Scarlet Gospels by Clive Barker.
Do you have any special/extraordinary talents?
Um, I would say no. However, everyone I know would disagree with me. I have a knack for retaining useless trivia. Occasionally, I manage to work it into conversation and occasionally, it just seems to overload my brain and spew forth on its own.
You are given the choice of one super power. What super power would you have and why?
I already have a super power: I trip over invisible things. I never seemed to outgrow being a klutz, now I can walk down a sidewalk and trip over nothing. My friends have all just gotten used to it, so they no longer think it’s weird when I’m walking and suddenly, I’m not.
List 5 things on your bucket list:
Go to England to watch World Cup Darts live.
Write and publish at least 100 books.
Meet Stephen Fry (I don’t think I could manage talking to him, I would definitely be star-struck and fumble over my words).
Learn to be less of an introvert.
Hit a 180.
Genre: Horror
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Author Bio
Hadena James began writing at the age of eight. By the time she graduated high school, she had published a couple of short stories in literary magazines. She completed writing her first novel at seventeen. Hadena began college as an English major, but quickly changed to a history major. However, she continued to write and took several extra classes in creative writing.
College showed her that while she could write short stories, novel writing was truly where her heart lay. She graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in European History with minors in German and Russian Studies. During this time, she received a couple of contract offers from publishing houses, but ultimately turned them all down.
In August 2012, she self-published her first novel. In retrospect, she is appreciative of the contracts offers she received when she was younger, but believes she made the right decision with self-publishing.
When she isn’t busy writing, Hadena enjoys playing in a steel-tip dart league. She loves to travel throughout North America and Europe. Her favorite cities to visit are Chicago, Illinois and Berlin, Germany. She is an avid reader, with her favorites being classic literature; Edgar Allen Poe, HP Lovecraft, Gaston LeRoux, and Jane Austen; modern favorites include Clive Barker, James Patterson, Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams. Her favorite book is “Good Omens” by Neil Gaimen and Terry Pratchett. She writes all of her books while listening to music and the bands tend to get “honorable mentions” within the pages. Some of her favorite bands are Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM, Rammstein, U2, Marilyn Manson, Oomph!, and Rob Zombie.

Book Excerpt
Barren trees covered in icicles and a crunchy snow covered landscape gave the impression of being in a winter wonderland. Hard to believe a dead body had been found here the day before, unless you looked at the ground.
The hard, crunchy snow was covered in footprints. Some of them were dirty, some clean, some buried under others, it looked like hundreds of people had come and gone down this path. My own snow-boots were leaving impressions as we continued forward, my footsteps falling in the impressions being left by Lucas’s shoes. There were already enough prints without adding mine. So I carefully walked in Lucas’s. His feet were almost twice the size of mine, making it easy.
Finally, the men stopped. I came up even with them and stared at the scene. There was a rope hanging from the tree with a hook on it. The rope looped over a branch and came down to where it was staked into the hardened ground.
There wasn’t nearly as much blood on the ground as I had expected. A few drops here and a medium sized puddle there were all that showed. There was another area though. It was distinctly different from the other. It looked as if the snow had partially melted and refroze.
“What’s that?” I pointed to the altered snow.
“His signature,” a trooper said to me. He walked over to it, I followed him.
“It doesn’t look like much,” I squinted to see if I could find any discernible features.
“We found skin here, laid out on the ground in the shape of a drawn back bow and arrow ready to be released. We removed the skin, but the salt melted the snow anyway.”

Interview With … Belart Wright
Belart, thanks for being my guest today. Tell us about you
My name is Belart Wright and I was born and raised in Detroit Michigan. I am a huge fan of fiction across all mediums. These tales are great places to stage questions and scenarios not often or never seen in the real world. I am a huge gamer, fan of martial arts and self-improvement, and have a curious mind about many things in our wide world.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I don’t exactly know. I seem to run on autopilot these days. I am excited to get my weekends back, so now I have something to look forward to every week. I can write a lot more now! And even have some *gasp* fun.
If you could hang out with one famous person for one day, who would it be and why?
George Carlin. That man told it like it was and had amazing foresight. He was very cynical, but very brilliant. I think I could learn a lot from him in his later years.
What’s the story behind your latest book?
An average kid named Joe goes hanging out with his friends. At the football game they attend, all hell breaks loose, and Joe is forced into an adventure that he didn’t expect and one that he can’t seemingly escape.
Tell us your writing process
I don’t have much of one, since I don’t get much time off to myself. I just write when and where I can and hope for the best. I am part “prepper” and part “pantser” when it comes to writing, meaning that my best work comes partially from good story planning and partly from making stuff up on the fly and changing my well laid plans as I go. It’s a nice mix, so long as I remain flexible.
What advice do you have for writers who want to get the word out about their book?
I’m still learning the fine art of promotions myself. I’d rather not share my lack of knowledge with your readers. There are some really useful articles online about this sort of thing though and some good books on the subject as well.
When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
I always liked creating stories since I was a little kid, but I didn’t know that I wanted to specifically be a writer until about my later teenage years, sometime between 17 and 18 years old. I wrote my first book, Hell Warriors, in that span of time.
Tell us about your main character:
Joe Remington Black is an average small town kid that lives in Orangetown. He likes hanging with his friends and going to the college and high school football games. He’s grown up in a small town all his life and has a small close knit family. Joe’s most stand out quality is his kind heart. Maybe that’s what makes him more than average.
What are you working on next?
I’m currently working on several projects for this year. The first is Average Joe and the Extraordinaires prequel, Liandra and the Dream Reader. After that I plan to release the sequel book, Average Joe and the Beauty, towards the end of the year. While I’m working on releasing those books, I’m writing a new LitRPG story called Hell’s Glitch: Escape From Adventure. I’ve been putting new chapters of that story up on Wattpad.
Do you have any special/extraordinary talents?
I can sleep and write in the most uncomfortable places. It’s my superpower.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter), George R.R. Martin (A Song of Ice and Fire), Amy Hennig (Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver), and Yoshihiro Togashi (Hunter x Hunter). I also want to give an honorable mention to Bruce Timm for Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.
What do you like to do with your free time?
How rare this free time is! When I do get it though, I like to write of course, watch something cool, exercise, play videogames, or hang with my friends. Going to the theater is usually a blast or catching a wrestling pay per view with my older brother.
Where can people find you on the web?
You guys and gals can find me on my blog at http://belartscorner.blogspot.com/, on Twitter at https://twitter.com/BelartWright, and on Google + at https://plus.google.com/+BelartWright/posts.
Any final thoughts?
I just want to thank you and your glorious readers for this great interview and for reading this great interview! I hope you all enjoy Average Joe and the Extraordinaires along with my other books for many years to come! Thank you all!

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT
Without a sound, Woody trailed the tips of his fingers down the middle of her back from the base of her skull to her waist. It was the sort of careful caress she might have expected. “Thanks for the dance,” he whispered.
She looked down at the navy and maroon swirls of the hallway carpet. Then she turned, and he’d been so close she couldn’t draw a breath.
He opened his arms, and she leaned into his embrace, but this time she didn’t rest her temple against his chin.
She looked into his guileless blue eyes, and then she stood on tiptoe and buried her hands in his thick, wavy, hair. She pressed her lips to his and whispered against his mouth, “This will have to be the end of it.”
Woody inhaled her words and crushed her to him as if he would never let her go.

Book Spotlight ~ DEBT by Rachel Dunning
99c Pre-Order Sale
Over 400 Pages
Standalone Novel
New-Adult Romance / Sports Romance
DEBT
By Rachel Dunning
Expected Release Date:
March 2016
What’s it about?
The Debt Collector
I pay my debts, and I expect others to.
I was raised in the slums of London, I knew nothing of privilege. My father was murdered when I was seventeen. Morty figured my father’s passing meant I would automatically take on dad’s debts. I refused.
And I paid for that refusal.
So did my sister.
So now I fight. All I know how to do is fight. The best cash is in the states, so that’s where I am now. A big fish called Vito came along offering me a “favor” when I arrived.
Another debt.
I paid for that one too.
I knew Kyla Hensley would be trouble when I met her. But I wanted her. I could see through the falsehood of her wannabe-slutty clothes and her sexy legs. So I chased her.
Besides, trouble is my middle name.
Kyla Hensley
I was brought up in privilege, but I lacked everything else. My father is a business tycoon who buys and sells and doesn’t care who gets rolled over in the process.
I never knew my mother, and all I have of her is a photo with a note scrawled on the back in French saying “I’m sorry.” The only Female Figure I had growing up is my dad’s wife who is a bleach blond with seven boob jobs. We never bonded.
I drink. I party. I meet guys.
But I wasn’t always like that.
I’ve had a string of lovers in the last few years, the worst and most recent of which was Vince Somerset. My best friend Vera was dating a guy called Rory Cansoom who is the opposite of Vince in so many ways, and yet so the same.
She and I hit the road for the summer, getting away from the two college psychos and just trying to have some fun.
But there’s a funny thing about trouble, the more you run from it, the more it finds you.
Which is when I met the Debt Collector.
It was only supposed to be sex. He made that clear. I made that clear.
That’s all it was supposed to be.
I never expected to fall in love. I never expected to fall so deeply, madly, uncomfortably in love with a man who is wrong, so wrong for me.
And yet…so unbelievably right.

Book Excerpts
~Kyla~
I push my head back against the wall, not sure what’s coming, but not fighting it either.
“Who are you?” he repeats.
“I…I don’t know what you mean.”
“I see you at a bar in Texas, then I look for you all over Nashville. And suddenly you’re at my side in a hospital, following me into this warehouse. Who are you?”
“I didn’t follow you into the warehouse. You needed to pick up your truck, and you were stumbling.”
“So?”
“So I wanted to make sure you were OK.”
“And?”
And I want you to take my clothes off and I want us to live happily ever after. “That’s it.”
Logan grins, a deadly look for him with his dimples. “Don’t do that,” I say.
“What?”
“Smile.”
“Why not?”
Because you’re beautiful. “Just don’t.”
Excerpt #2
~Kyla~
He stops. Lifts his head up again, still smiling. “You’re afraid,” he says.
“Yes.”
“Of me.”
“Yes.”
“And yet, you’re here.”
I clear my throat. “Y—yes.”
“Why?”
Because I’m an idiot. And you turn me on. And I’m an idiot. And you turn me on.
Excerpt #3
~Kyla~
My hand slides over to his jeans unwittingly, rubbing his leg. “I want to kiss you again,” I say. I want to kiss you because you’ve taken my heart with your words and I need it back.
Excerpt #4
~Logan~
I have no desire to settle down.
I have no desire to make Kyla be the last woman I’m ever with.
But, damn it, I’d like to be given a chance to do those things. Does she even feel anything for me?
I know I do.
I feel something.
Not love. Something else.
Like I need her.
Like I’d stop breathing without her.
Like the sun would stop being so bright or the sounds of the world so sweet if she disappeared.
Excerpt #5
~Logan~
She’ll soften me.
She’ll break me.
But I don’t care.
Excerpt #6
~Kyla~
“Tell me for real,” I say. “Tell me what I didn’t guess about you.”
Logan doesn’t answer, and already I’m regretting the question. I know something hurt him, but who am I to ask him about it so soon? I’m breaking my rule, I want to know him, I want to know everything about him.
He shifts his arm so that my head is no longer resting on it, leans forward.
I did overstep it, but I don’t care. Maybe this is the last time I’ll ever see him again, and I want to get everything I can out of it, not only the sex I’ll demand later.
He looks down at his feet, then at me.
He inhales a deep breath, and then he says something to me that will forever change the way I think about the world. He tells me a story that puts my own life in perspective, and makes me question what I’ve held dear, and what’s really important in life.
He tells me about how he lost his father. And his mother.
And why he fights.
And why he continues to fight. And what he really sees when he’s in that cage, the hate, the fury, the pain.
By the end of it all, my world is shattered, the floor is shaking, I have no stability.
By the end of it, I know one thing, and I know it to my core, my very fiber. And I don’t care if it’s too soon, I believe in intuition, I believe in it more now than ever.
The thing I know is this:
I love this man. I love him irrevocably. I love him more than I’ve ever loved anyone.
And I know I will lose him.
I know it. More intuition.
But I love his very soul.

But just before her birthday, she learns tragedy isn’t finished telling its story . . .
Before she can begin her new life, Katy’s grandfather suffers a heart attack, a box of her mother’s keepsakes, including a journal written to Katy while she was in her mother’s womb, at his side. Believing the only thing her grandpa loves enough to live for is her mother’s memory, Katy reads to him from the journal every night at the hospital. Night after night, line after line, Katy begins to see herself as her mother saw her in her dreams. Buoyed by her mother’s undying love and conviction, Katy vows to make her mother’s sacrifice mean something and promises to fulfill all her mother’s requests. Even the hard ones. Especially those . . .
