Monday Motivation

Here’s some Monday Motivation for all my followers today:

What is your dream?
Think about it for a moment. What do you really, truly want to do in life?
Do you want to be an author? Photographer? Teacher? Firefighter? Engineer? Sports manager? CEO?
Whatever your dream is…
“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Reach for the stars; change the world.” -Harriet Tubman(View Original Pin)

Do something today, right now to get you one step closer to that goal.
It doesn’t have to be something big. It can be as simple as buying a notebook, taking a photography class nearby or online, buying a How-To book for whatever you are interested in, or even signing up for a blog through WordPress (this platform).
You don’t have to do something big today. You just have to believe in yourself and take one small step that will make a big impact down the road.
Stop waiting.
Make those dreams a reality.
Grab an extra notebook or sticky-note pad and keep it with you to jot down ideas as they come.
Dream big and one day all of your dreams will come true!

Always follow your dreams! I’m so happy I did!

Friday Five: Writing Tips

Hello all!

Today I thought I’d share some quotes about writing with you guys. I know a lot of my readers are aspiring writers themselves, so when I get the chance to talk with them at book shows or book club discussions, I always reference these few quotes. They are some of my favorites and have always been inspiring to me as an author.

REMINDER: Your first draft does not need to be perfection. It is a work in progress. There is a reason it is called a “First Draft.” I have always loved the way this quote by Shannon Hale shows that.

Love this poetic description of the drafting process!(Original Pin)

2. You can be a writer at any age.

Try and try again, if you don't get it the second time, your work is practice. Once you hand in something so beautiful that they except, tell them (Original Pin)

3. Write YOUR story.

4. If you want to be a writer…

5. Your words matter.

Friday Five | Inspiration

Hello! Happy Friday everyone!

I hope you have all had a wonderful week and have a relaxing/fun weekend ahead!

For me, I’ll be formatting and editing book three all weekend, so I went on Pinterest to look up some quotes to get me inspired and ready to hunker-down and get this book done so you all can read it very, very soon!

As I was looking at my Inspiration board, I came across these quotes. These are five of my favorites, so I wanted to share them all with you (as well as some inspiring scenes) in case you needed some inspiration to get you through this week as well.

Enjoy!

“Some see a weed, some see a wish.”

This quote is one that I really love because I often notice how true it is. Some of my favorite types of flowers are actually weeds. I remember when I was younger and first found that out, I was so heartbroken that people would call such a beautiful thing in nature a “weed”, the same thing they called the green weeds. I personally (still) see dandelions as a chance to make a wish. Dream on, friends!

2. “Do small things in great ways.”

This is a quote that has always inspired me. You don’t have to be amazing at everything or do something huge like go to the moon. What is important is that you do great things with the life you are given. (If you like this quote, you’ll love Sweet Dreams, so stay tuned *wink wink*)

3.  “At the end of the day, you can focus on what’s tearing you apart, or what’s holding you together.”

Perspective. That is key. Perspective can change everything.

4. “Someday you’re going to be…”

Whether you want to be an author or an actor or a chef or a film director, start following your dreams today. Start out small, work hard, and someday… you’re going to be someone’s favorite!

Hoo Loves You | Big Announcement!

Dear Readers,

Thank you all so much for the incredible support you have all shown me with Hoo Loves You. I love hearing the little kids say how this book is their favorite book! I love getting the videos parents send in of their little ones reading along! I love seeing how excited the kids get when they see my book with the owls at my table at book signings! And I love first-time moms who reach out after receiving the book as a shower gift, saying how adorable it is.

I am so blessed that in under a year of this children’s book being out, I have had the amazing opportunity to visit local kindergarten and preschool classes, as well as daycare centers, to read Hoo Loves You to the students and talk with them about following their dreams and what they want to be when they grow up. My favorite visit was back in March, after I read the story, I was talking with a Kindergarten class about what they wanted to do and a little boy raised his hand and told me, “I used to want to be a scientist. But now I want to be an author and write books like yours!”

I am also blessed to have had Hoo Loves You be named a Finalist in the 2018 International Book Awards! Getting those seals in the mail to stick on my books was beyond exciting!

I am also blessed that Hoo Loves You currently holds the #1 spot on Amazon’s Best Seller list for Kindle Baby Books and the #2 spot for Bedtime Stories! This was an achievement I put on my vision board at the start of this year and am so thrilled to actually see my book in that position on Amazon.

Basically, the reason for this post is that I wanted to say thank you to all my readers for how much love you have shown my first children’s book. I am so thankful for every download it gets, every little reader I meet at these book events, and every story time I’ve gotten to participate in.

So…without further ado….

My big announcement is…

I have written a new Hoo Loves You book!

Hoo Loves You Book Two will be called Hoo’s Birthday Is It?

The book will be released Late Summer of this year! It will make a great birthday gift for your little ones! The book is written and I am currently working with my illustrator to get it ready to go.

I can’t wait for you all to read it! I hope you all love it as much as Hoo Loves You!

Make sure you’re subscribed to this blog for updates on Book Two! I should have information soon bout pre-orders and other info.

Thank you all so much for this amazing opportunity and for sharing in this journey with me!

Summer Reads: The Siren | Friday Five

Hi everyone!

I’m back today with a book review of a book that is PERFECT for the beach! What is a better book to read by the ocean than a book about the ocean! And sirens!

For today’s review, since it’s Friday, I thought I would share 5 of my favorite aspects of this book with you all! Hope you like it! If you’ve read this book, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below. Also, I really liked this book and the subject (mermaids/sirens etc) so if any of you guys have a recommendation for other books like this to check out, I’d love to know!

Happy Friday & Happy Reading!

Book: The Siren

Author: Kiera Cass

My Goodreads Rating: 4 Stars

Synposis (via Goodreads): From Kiera Cass, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Selection series, comes a captivating stand-alone fantasy romance.

Kahlen is a Siren, bound to serve the Ocean by luring humans to watery graves with her voice, which is deadly to any human who hears it. Akinli is human—a kind, handsome boy who’s everything Kahlen ever dreamed of. Falling in love puts them both in danger . . . but Kahlen can’t bear to stay away. Will she risk everything to follow her heart?

The Siren was previously self-published; this brand-new edition has been completely rewritten and redesigned.

My 5 Favorite Things About This Book:

THE COVER! Oh my goodness, look at this cover! It is absolutely stunning. Everything about it is just so beautiful. I love the contrast of a long flowy gown standing on the beach. The colors in this cover are perfect. Kiera Cass books have are some of my FAVORITE covers ever. I love the fancy dresses and the fonts used in the titles. It is all amazing. Whoever her cover designer is is fantastic!
The  feeling of sisterhood among the sirens. I loved that in this book, all of the sirens have such a strong devotion to one another. They become each others’ family when they all don’t have any family left. The sisters were there for each other and each brought their own unique thing to the group. I really liked that Cass highlighted this idea. It is interesting, because after reading The Selection series, there is competition among all those girls and the focus is more on the love story, but in The Siren, there really is a strong idea of sisterhood and friendship.
The Ocean. Wow, I thought the way Cass wrote the Ocean’s voice and personality was so interesting. I have never read a book before where the ocean was a character. It was surprising, but in a very great way. The Ocean had a very strong presence in the book, but also was shown to have some limitations and weaknesses. I liked how the word Ocean was capitalized throughout the whole book and all the Ocean’s lines were in itallics. It really set the ocean apart as being another being compared to the other characters. I think the Ocean can be interpretted as representing many different things in life. I think the way Cass wrote this piece of the story was great because people can interpret it differently based on their own personal beliefs in life.
Akinli and his kind heart. I think what I loved most about this character was his kind heart. It really came through throughout the whole book. I don’t want to give any key things away for those of you who haven’t read it, but Akinli had been through a lot, but he still had the most outgoing and positive attidude. I love the way he finds a way to communicate with Kahlen. It is so sweet to see how he is so interested in who she is as a person, while other guys simply are drawn to her beauty as a Siren. The way he always made her laugh and was just an all-around nice guy made me smile.
The ending. Overall, the story ended much better than I would have thought possible for a character in Kahlen’s situation. I was happy that the ending, though somewhat sad, was also a happy ending. There were so many emotions I felt while reading the ending of this book. But overall, I was happy with how Cass chose to conclude this story.

Favorite quotes:

“You are Kahlen. He is Akinli.”

“Simply being alive was not enough to be called living.”

“Books were a safe place, a world apart from my own.”

Happy Reading & Happy Summer!
