#1LineWed 08.22.18

HAPPY WEDNESDAY EVERYONE!

Today’s #1LineWed theme on Twitter was anything that centered around the word “dream”. For those of you who have read Illusion  & Echo, you know that this theme is quite literally PERFECT for my books! Especially in the last book of the trilogy, Sweet Dreams, I have sooo many lines that use the word “dream.”

But! The minute I saw what today’s theme was, I knew exactly which line I would use.

This line comes at a turning point in Sweet Dreams, a point where tissues may be needed, and a point where all of Addison’s dreams are coming true– this time her hopes & dreams and not her nightmares.

I have to say that the scene that today’s line is from was maybe one of my favorite scenes to write. Ever. There’s so much symbolism and parallelism in it (I’m thinking of writing a post about that soon once the book comes out!).

Anyway…today’s #1linewed is:

“I knew that as long as we were together, life would be like the sweetest dream of all.”

Happy Reading & Happy Wednesday!

And be sure to check out Sweet Dreams on  September 15th! or pre-order it here.

Summer Reads: That Summer

Book: That Summer
Author: Sarah Dessen
My Goodreads Review: 4 Stars

Synopsis (via Goodreads):
The more things change…

As far as Haven is concerned, there’s just too much going on.

Everything is changing, and she’s not sure where she fits in.

Then her sister’s old boyfriend shows up, sparking memories of the summer when they were all happy and everything was perfect…

But along the way, Haven realizes that sometimes change is a good thing.

My Review:

Overall I liked this book a lot. It was a a great beach read, especially because it is less than 200 pages and was the perfect length book for me to buy at Barnes & Noble and finish on my last day of vacation.

I will say it isn’t exactly like the other Dessen books I’ve read and what I was expecting for this story. It didn’t have the typical summer romance love story that is usually in Sarah Dessen novels.

However, by the end I saw that there was so much more to the storyline and the character, Haven. A summer fling is not what Haven needed that summer. She needed to grow and learn. So I think Dessen’s ability to craft a story like That Summer so well that it didn’t need your typical summer-romance-novel-brooding-boy was key to this book. I think Dessen’s writing voice was perfect for this story and she wrote the character of Haven very well.

This book was much deeper than most summery reads out there. This book focused on family and the challenges life throws at you and how to get through it all.

The ending of the book was real and raw and brought together all of the feelings and beliefs Haven had throughout the book.

Sometimes our memories are not exactly how we remember them…

In That Summer, Haven learns this lesson.

Overall, this book was really well-written (as all Sarah Dessen books are!) and it made me take a minute to think about life and have some perspective.

I definitely recommend this book!

Happy Reading and Happy Summer!

Sweet Dreams

lillitaylor

Today’s the day!! It’s “Cover Reveal Day” for Sweet Dreams, the final book in The Illusion Trilogy. To celebrate, here is an exclusive interview with the author, Nadette Rae Rodgers.

Q: How many hours a day do you write?

A: I don’t write every day because I am a college student. But I actually find writing very relaxing, so once I am caught up on my studies, I write anywhere from one hour to five! I do a lot of my writing on breaks, in which case, I write all day.

Q: Do you base your characters off people you know?

A: Definitely not! I’ve had people come back from my past thinking that sitting next to me in a chem class in high school meant I wrote them as the dreamy guy in my book LOL. Of course, there are some personality traits of my family and good friends…

Summer Reads: Better Off Friends

Book: Better Off Friends
Author: Elizabeth Eulberg
My Kindle Review Rating: 5 Stars

Synopsis (via Kindle):
For Macallan and Levi, it was friends at first sight. Everyone says guys and girls can’t be just friends, but these two are. They hang out after school, share tons of inside jokes, their families are super close, and Levi even starts dating one of Macallan’s friends. They are platonic and happy that way.

Eventually they realize they’re best friends — which wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t keep getting in each other’s way. Guys won’t ask Macallan out because they think she’s with Levi, and Levi spends too much time joking around with Macallan, and maybe not enough time with his date. They can’t help but wonder . . . are they more than friends or are they better off without making it even more complicated?

From romantic comedy superstar Elizabeth Eulberg comes a fresh, fun examination of a question for the ages: Can guys and girls ever really be just friends? Or are they always one fight away from not speaking again — and one kiss away from true love?

* * *

My review:

I found this book as a Kindle deal a little bit ago and decided to download it. I had read Prom & Prejudice by this author (Elizabeth Eulberg) and absolutely loved that book! So, I decided to try this one out as well!

I can definitely say I was not disappointed! Eulberg has this way of bringing stories to life on the pages! As I read Better Off Friends, I kept thinking how the overall style reminded me a lot of Prom & Prejudice.

Honestly, I really want to start reading more books by this author because I just really connect with her writing style. I think her books are cute and happy; they make me smile.

Better Off Friends follows two best friends Macallan and Levi as they navigate growing up and the meaning of friendship.

I have to say I have always loved stories like this, where the love interests have grown up together and are best friends first and love interests second. There’s just something about these stories that always gets me. In my books, Cammie and Billy are characters who are like this: they grew up with each other, never wanting to say they liked the other.

I loved the parts when Macallan goes to Ireland! I’ve never been there but dream of someday going, and while I read the book, I felt like I was walking through Ireland!

Something else I loved about this story was that together they dealt with some difficult things in life and were there for each other. It wasn’t a superficial friendship. They were true friends.

Another thing I loved about this book? The cover! The cover is so cute and fits the whole storyline perfectly! Once you read it, you’ll see why it’s perfect that they’re on the swing set! So cute!

My favorite line from the book:

Okay, so I couldn’t pick just one! Because I read this on my Kindle App, I was able to highlight lines I liked and when I looked back to pick my favorite for this blog post, I realized that I love all of these, so:

“Because sometimes silence speaks much louder than words possibly could.” (p. 34)
“Family doesn’t have to be blood relations only. I think family is more of a state of mind.” (p. 34).
“But in truth, home isn’t necessarily where you sleep at night. It’s where you feel like yourself. Where you’re most comfortable. Where you don’t have to pretend, where you can be just you. I had finally reached that place because Macallan is home to me.” (p. 276).

Aren’t those just so well-worded and beautifully said?! I love them!

Have you read any books by Elizabeth Eulberg? If so, I’d love any recommendations! Let me know in the comments!
