Thursday Thoughts
Happy Thursday everyone!
Another week is almost over. It’s crazy how fast June is flying by.
Here’s a little bit of inspiration to get you through the day and the rest of the week!
* * *
“No matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life goes on, and it will be better tomorrow.” -Maya Angelou
“No life is a waste,” the Blue Man said. “The only time we waste is the time we spend thinking we’re alone.” -Mitch Albom
“But even if we don’t have the power to choose where we come from we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things.” -Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower)
* * *
And my quote for the day:
“What if I fall? Oh, but my darling what if you fly?” -Erin Hanson

This is actually one of my favorite inspirational quotes. I recently told a friend how nervous I was to be publishing my book and putting it out there, and in response, she sent me this quote. It gave me the strength I needed to jump feet first into the publishing process.
So go do something bold today! Try something new! Write something. Take a chance. Live! Some of the greatest things in life are worth a little risk to get there. Sometimes it is scary putting yourself out there or trying something new, but you never know what could come of a little leap of faith.
So, my darling, take Erin Hanson’s advice today because you never know…you might just fly.[image error]

Summer Reading List
Hi guys,
It’s finally feeling like summer! I miss the sunshine and am so excited to plop my butt down on the beach and just read.
My favorite thing to do in the summertime is just sit and read summery books. By summery books I mean those typical, summer romance books featuring the usual walks on the beach, summer sun, ice cream cones, and classic love stories.
So I thought I’d share my summer reading list with you:
My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick
The Boy Most Likely To by Huntley Fitzpatrick (a followup to My Life Next Door)
The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks (I’ve already read this, but I recently watched the movie again, so I’m in the mood to reread it!)
The Boys of Summer by Jessica Brody
First Love by James Patterson
I also want to read The Selection series by Kiera Cass (not exactly summery books, but I’ve read the first one and LOVED it, so I really want to read the others).
Here is a list of summery books I’ve read in the past and really enjoyed:
Sixteenth Summer by Michelle Dalton
Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen
Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
Dear John by Nicholas Sparks
The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks
It’s Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han
Comment below with your thoughts on any of these books or with any summery book suggestions you have!
Happy Reading!

Synopsis Reveal
Hi all,
It’s finally coming!!! After months and months of editing, my book is finally ready to go!
Illusion will be released late June 2016.
Here’s the synopsis:
Everybody dreams, everyone has nightmares…but no one dreams quite like Addison Smith.
Addison has always had unusual dreams. However, the crazy factor has risen to a whole new level. Still, she doesn’t realize just how unique she is.
But one day, Addison wakes up covered in bruises with blood on her pillow, and she realizes that maybe her dreams aren’t so normal after all.
Someone or something is causing all of this, but she doesn’t know who and she doesn’t know why.
Suddenly the guy of her dreams (literally) becomes the new kid at school and turns her world upside down.
Before she knows it, the line between reality and her dream world blurs.
What is real?
What is just an illusion?

Are you dreaming?
Ever heard the phrase, “Pinch me, I’m dreaming”?
Sometimes dreams feel incredibly real to the dreamer, but here are some simple ways to tell if you are really dreaming.
5 Ways to Tell You are Definitely Dreaming:
You can’t tell time. – when dreaming, the dreamer can’t read a clock and typically has no sense of time. Some people say the hands on a clock never move in their dreams. Others have reported clocks having 13 or 11 numbers rather than 12. In my dreams, I can’t usually even find a clock anywhere.
Physical appearances are off. – sometimes in dreams, you have 6 fingers or 4 toes. Or your hair is a different color than it is in real life. Maybe you look or sound different that usual. Or you know you are dreaming about a friend, but they look different than they usually do.
You can’t read anything. – words jumble together or appear to be in a different language? Do you try to read street signs or instructions and just can’t? When dreaming, most people can’t read anything.
No sense of direction. -keep walking in circles? Can’t figure out where you are? Loss of your sense of direction is common when dreaming. You could keep running in circles in your dream and never figure out the right path.
Intense Anxiety – if you feel extremely anxious and things just don’t seem right, but there is no way to calm yourself down, you may be dreaming. A sense of anxiety is very common in dreams. Most dreams are tense and negative.
Dream on,
~Nadette

Write Something!
Its #WritingWednesday!
I know I haven’t posted in a while, but I’m trying to get back to it.
So for today, I thought I’d keep it simple, so here’s some quotes about writing to inspire you to go and write something today. :)
“If a story is in you, it has got to come out.” -William Faulkner
“A professional writer is an amateur who didn’t quit.” -Richard Bach
“You can make anything by writing.” -C.S. Lewis
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you.” -Maya Angelou
“If there’s a book you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” -Toni Morrison
Hope those inspired you to write something new today!

5 Dream Facts
Hi everyone,
I realized I haven’t posted in a while as I’ve been hard at work editing and making some finishing touches to Illusion. So here’s some interesting facts about dreams:
1. You will only see faces of people you already know in your dreams (A strange face is never truly a stranger; you’ve seen them before.)
2. The most common emotion experienced in dreams is anxiety.
3. People who stay up later tend to have more nightmares.
4. Animals have dreams too.
5. Humans spend roughly a third of their lives sleeping.
Thanks for reading, guys! I’ll do my best to keep up on blogging more in the next couple months.

Author Interview Series: Carolyn Menke
Hi everyone!
For today’s #WritingWednesday I’ve interviewed writer, Carolyn Menke.
You can find her at http://carolynmenke.com/
Enjoy!
* * * * *
Author Interview
Author name: Carolyn Menke
Works: I write historical fiction and just finished a magical realism novel for middle-grade readers.
What is your all time favorite book?
To Kill a Mockingbird
What is the most recent book you’ve read?
A Girl and Five Brave Horses
What genre is your favorite to read?
Historical is my sweet spot.
Do you feel your writing style is similar to the type of books you read?
Yes, sometimes
Who is your author role-model?
Gruen. Hemingway. Dahl. Green. Austen.
How old were you when you began writing?
I was in elementary school. I used to wake up early and sit at my little desk in my bedroom and write in spiral-bound notebooks. Then I’d bring whatever story or poem I wrote down to the breakfast table and read it aloud. My parents found a box of my old stories recently and decided to read one to my kids. When they got to “the good part” and turned the page, the rest was blank. I never finished some of them.
How old were you when you wrote your first book?
I was in college. The book wasn’t very good. I only wish I hadn’t waited so long to get back to fiction.
Is writing your career or something on the side?
Writing is my career. I’ve always worked as a writer in some capacity—technical writing, marketing communications, or blogs for clients. I love writing about trips we take. Along the way, my interest in fiction has always been there, like a dear childhood friend, ready to pick up where we left off.
Where is your favorite place to write?
I used to float around, from my dining room table to coffee shops. But all it takes is one loud talker or a mountain of laundry, and my mojo is off. So, I set up shop in the front room of our house. The space is removed enough, and bright and cozy – flooded with sunshine all day. And I can see the school bus coming.
What inspires you to write?
Hmm…when I experience something that changes me. I also feel compelled to “share” after I’ve worked out some big conflict in my life. I’m a sharer. It has to come out. And writing is my favorite outlet because I can edit myself. I put it all on paper and then go back and whittle away until I’ve captured the crux of it and nothing more.
Who inspires you to write?
My kids. My husband. My family. Everyone in my life, including the very nice older gentleman named Hasim, who works at the local gas station, and who lost fifty pounds by walking up and down the road I travel every day.
Do you base characters off of people in your life?
Yes.
Read the book or see the movie first?
Definitely the book first. Then I can’t help but run out and see the movie even though I’m usually disappointed. The film version is inevitably different than what I envisioned in my mind, and never seems to go as deep. Except Fault in our Stars. That movie was dead on.
Do you like when a movie is slightly different from the book with its own twist, or does it have to be exact?
Has to be exact. I don’t know why.
What are your thoughts on major plot-twists?
I adore and admire them as long as they’re not zucchini in the closet.
How do you read a book (i.e. cover to cover, sometimes finish it, will tear through it in a day, read the last page before starting)?
If I love a book, I tear through it quickly, but find myself slowing down as I reach the last pages, not wanting it to end.
What is a writing goal you have?
Put out the best work I can, every single day, even if it’s only a paragraph or two.
If you could sum up your writing style in a word or phrase what would it be?
Going for all the feels, one metaphor at a time.
What is your advice for aspiring writers?
Read everything. Write the story only you can write. Pay it forward. Find critique partners.
