Workplace Wellness Tip

If available, utilize your company gym or fitness center. If a company gym or fitness center is unavailable, consider speaking with managers and leaders to create one.

Workplace Wellness Tip

Optimize your sleep to arrive at work rested, alert, and happy.

A review in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine (2019) concluded, “The existing evidence, although weak, suggests efforts by employers to encourage better sleep habits and general fitness result in self-reported improvements in sleep-related outcomes, and may be associated with reduced absenteeism and better overall quality of life. Candidate workplace strategies to promote sleep health are provided.”

Workplace Wellness Tip

According to the American Optometric Association, “To help alleviate digital eyestrain, follow the 20-20-20 rule; take a 20-second break to view something 20 feet away every 20 minutes.”

Tip #8: Workplace Wellness

Take vacations from work throughout the year to help improve your health, happiness and productivity.

A cross-sectional survey in the JAMA Network Open (2024) concluded, “In this cross-sectional study of 3024 physicians, the number of vacation days taken and performing patient-related work while on vacation were associated with physician burnout. System-level efforts to ensure physicians take adequate vacation and have coverage for clinical responsibilities, including EHR [electronic health record] inbox, may reduce physician burnout.”

Tip #7: Workplace Wellness

Create or join a lunchtime walking or fitness club at work for physical activity and improve social connections.

A study in the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports (2015) concluded, “Lunchtime walks improved enthusiasm, relaxation, and nervousness at work, although the pattern of results differed depending on whether between-group or within-person analyses were conducted. The intervention was effective in changing some affective states and may have broader implications for public health and workplace performance.”

Source: Thøgersen-Ntoumani C, Loughren EA, Kinnafick FE, Taylor IM, Duda JL, Fox KR. Changes in work affect in response to lunchtime walking in previously physically inactive employees: A randomized trial. Scand J Med Sci Sports. 2015;25(6):778-787.

💡What are your work lunchtime physical activity strategies?
