Eldon Farrell is an avid reader, writer, and author of the upcoming novel Horde Protocol. A professionally trained accountant, Eldon has spent more than two decades reading and writing thriller novels. Readers have described his novels as “fast-paced”, “full of action”, and “edge-of-your-seat” reading. His next release will be a sequel to Singularity, which he released last year.

He is a lover of language, and an unapologetic fan of DC Comics, who does recognize the irony in the redundancy. A child of the eighties, when not writing, he can still be found in the shadows of Grayskull or trying to get back to the future.

You may have just written what you consider to be the greatest piece of fiction that has ever been written but you will likely be alone in that opinion. The best thing you can do when you're starting out is to allow yourself to see your work as others will see it. Recognize the flaws, identify the areas you can improve your craft and you'll be amazed what it will do for your skill set.

I can remember when I first started creating short stories I thought each one was pure gold (spoiler alert...they were not!). I didn't really start to improve as a writer until I admitted to myself that I needed to improve. That's the problem with overconfidence; you spend no time acquiring the new skills that will improve your writing because you don't think you need improvement. Be humble and honest about your ability and you'll be amazed by how quickly you improve!(less)

No matter how successful you are (or aren't), for those of us who feel the call to write, writer's block is a certainty at one point or another in our career.

What I've found works on those occasions is music or movies; anything really other than writing. You can't force it and the block is likely caused by insecurity or doubt of your own ability. Taking time away from the empty page staring back at you can invigorate those creative juices and get the words flowing again.(less)

Genre Challenge

Here at the start of another new year, as we all set goals we’d like to accomplish in 2019, I’d like to suggest something a little different. Throughout this year I will be participating in a genre challenge. What is that, you ask?

All too often, I find, readers settle into what they like to read—what’s comfortable for them. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, it does leave so much untouched Read more of this blog post »

You know, when I heard about this book I was stoked to read it. Ready Player One was so epic and I definitely wanted more of the same thing here. And don't get me wrong, parts of this book were wicked, but so much of it was just... blah.
