Unpredictable review and release blitz, Cala Riley

I absolutely loved the first book in this series, so I was excited to read this one. Unfortunately it fell flat for me.To start with, I felt it was WAY too short, I read this in a few hours. Nothing was really fleshed out, explored, allowed to develop, or had time to breathe. It felt rushed.Secondly, I didn’t feel as if Sterling had any redeeming features. There was an attempt to garner sympathy but again, it fell flat and wasn’t fully explored.Third, I never got a confrontation from Victoria. I wanted it and I felt the story needed it. Every time she folded so easily and it was such a shame. I wanted her to stand up for herself to show Sterling exactly what he was doing to her and it never came.
I wanted great things from this book, but they didn’t come, unfortunately.

Hunter - BT bannerThe queen of enemies-to-lovers strikes again. I devoured every page, hooked on the sizzling chemistry between Hunter and Sailor. A ten star read." --Parker S. Huntington, Wall Street Journal bestselling authorThe Hunter, an all-new compelling and must-read contemporary romance from USA Today bestselling author L.J. Shen is available now! Boston’s debauched elite is going up in flames, and it’s the Fitzpatrick family that set it on fire.

Hunter

I didn’t mean to star in a sex tape, okay?

It was just one of those unexplainable things. Like Stonehenge, Police Academy 2, and morning glory clouds.

It just happened.

Now my ball-busting father is sentencing me to six months of celibacy, sobriety, and morbid boredom under the roof of Boston’s nerdiest girl alive, Sailor Brennan.

The virginal archer is supposed to babysit my ass while I learn to take my place in Royal Pipelines, my family’s oil company.

Little does she know, that’s not the only pipe I’ll be laying…

Sailor

I didn’t want this gig, okay?

But the deal was too sweet to walk away from.

I needed the public endorsement; Hunter needed a nanny.

Besides, what’s six months in the grand scheme of things?

It’s not like I’m in danger of falling in love with the appallingly gorgeous, charismatic gazillionaire who happens to be one of Boston’s most eligible bachelors.

No. I will remain immune to Hunter Fitzpatrick’s charm.

Even at the cost of losing everything I have.

Even at the cost of burning down his kingdom.

Excerpt “Why?” I asked, blinking at him in confusion. I had two left legs and the coordination of roadkill. I couldn’t dance if my life depended on it. I’d tried dancing at the only party I’d ever gone to—sophomore year—and was subjected to such thorough humiliation. People took videos of me dancing and forwarded it to half my school. Saggy Sailor, they’d graffiti-ed on my locker. Apparently, my back looked hunched and droopy when I danced. “Because…” He tilted his chin down, his voice low, smoldering. “You’re obviously bored, and my family is watching us, and I’m partial to fondling you.” “It’s the dress,” I muttered. “I’d actually prefer fondling you out of it.” I sliced my gaze sideways, noticing that Aisling and Persy hadn’t picked up on my exchange with him. They were now watching a video, probably of the reality show they were arguing about. Even though Hunter was just after a friendly dance to show his family we were getting along, I couldn’t unglue my butt from my chair. “No fondling.” I crossed my arms over my chest, buying time. “No promises. Get up.” “Did you tell anyone we live together?” I accused, my eyes narrowing into slits. He stared at me, wide-eyed, mouth parted. “Negatory.” “Did you tell anyone we were dating?” “This is the lamest twenty-questions game I’ve ever participated in. No.” “Well, people are talking about us.” “That’s what people do. They fill the air with useless words to entertain each other. It’s called gossip, and it sucks all the asses in the world. Doesn’t mean it was me. Our building employs more than a hundred people. All of them work for my father. That means he’s spreading whatever the hell he wants to spread.” LJShenAbout LJ Shen L.J. Dangerous Remedy review

I had such high hopes for this book. The blurb sounded amazing and right up my alley. Unfortunately it fell flat for me.
I felt as if I never really got to know the characters, and who they are as people. I wanted to see so much more of them, how they play off each other, how they interact with each other, how they function as a group. We see and get none of that. Camile, to me, was particularly unlikable.
Secondly, this book read as if it were the second book in a series. I actually had to go back and check to make sure it wasn’t. The first chapter grabs you, but there is so much backstory to the characters and we never see that. As it is, those backstories are pretty vital to the story.
Story wise, the battalion seemed out of their depth and like children playing at games they shouldn’t have. This was never really proved otherwise.
Finally, I feel as if Olympe was never really explained. Why she was so important, who she was, how she came to be.

I was so excited to read this book, but unfortunately it didn’t do it for me. I can’t see myself continuing with the series.

Dark skies review, Danielle J Larsen

I’m not really sure what to think about this book. I have faith that, obviously, this story will join up with Teriana and Marcus’s but I’m not sure if it quite held my attention.I liked Killian. I liked his band of girls.I’m not sure I liked Lydia. She did what she needed to do, but felt a little weak to me.I think my main problem with this book is just how much doesn’t go for them. It’s hard to read something constantly getting worse. There weren’t many bright spots in this book.I also felt it was a little slow to start, but the magic system was better explained in this book.
There are shades of an infamous “seventh” book in a series, in this one, but I hope it all comes together eventually!

Through the lens review and release blitz, K. K Allen

This was an interesting book. I loved the setting, and got a real feel of Seattle. I also loved Monica.I’m a little unsure about Maggie, but Desmond was a solid character.I think where it was a little strange for me was the fact a lot of this book revolves around things explained in other books, which I haven’t read. It made for a bit of a disconnect which thankfully was solved just as it got too much to handle.I did think this did detract from the story a bit, as well as the fact you don’t initially see Desmond and Maggie meeting.
Still, this was a solid book. I would suggest reading the associated books first, but do give it a go!

Excerpt:

“I don’t like this.” A hand went to the back of my chair, a head popped up between our two front seats, and that was announced. Mason was in the driver’s seat and I was in the passenger seat. Logan looked at each of us. He was wearing a distinct frown-smirk combo on his face as he said his piece. Problem was, he’d been saying it since we left Boston, since we landed in California, and since we’d been in the rental and driving three hours past Fallen Crest. It’d been said. It’d been heard. We were now at the part where we wanted to murder my brother-in-law. Or, correction, where I wanted to murder my brother-in-law. Mason was stoic and driving. He was able to get in the zone and tune Logan out. Taylor was sitting in her chair, reading on her phone. She had the whole tuning-out thing too. Not me. I was a mom, so somehow that meant I always had to be aware and alert, and now I was close to grinding my teeth and yelling for a Logan time-out. Five minutes in the back, please. Mason grunted. “Tough shit.” Nice. Maybe he wasn’t so ‘tuned out.’ I looked at Taylor. “Can you keep him under control?” She glanced up from her phone. “You know the answer to that question. You’ve known him longer.” Touché. I’m not sleeping with him.” Taylor just laughed. “Shouldn’t have said that. He’s probably refraining from twenty different inappropriate jokes as I’m talking.” “Ahem.” Logan gave us both a look. “It’s because I love both of you—in different ways—and respect both of you that I’m not touching that. But Sam…” Logan leveled me with an aggrieved look, his eyebrows raised. “Can you watch what you say? Old Logan would’ve been all over that one, and can you imagine the innuendos?” He gestured to himself, his face tight. “But I’m here. Being polite—” “Sorry. I thought since you’re older and in law school, you’d be more mature.” “It’s like you don’t know me at all.” But he was grinning. “Logan.” Insert some assertive tone here. I had to make my point. “We got a babysitter for the weekend. I got permission for a full weekend off from my training. Your brother is on a much-needed vacation before football training starts, and I have been needing Heather time even though I saw her a few weeks ago.” I had a point. What was it? “So shut it, okay?” That was my point. “All I’m saying is that we were supposed to do the yacht. Nate and Matteo were up for it. Now suddenly we’re doing a camping thing. I’m not clear on the why?” Mason glanced into the rearview mirror. “It was Nate’s idea. He said something about family research. What’s your issue? You like camping.” “That’s when we were young. We did stupid shit back then like. We’re old now. If we go camping, I prefer it to be on things like yachts. Or we stay in a mega-mansion and our camping is napping by the pool. I like that type of camping.” Taylor frowned at him. “Babe.” He shot her a look, frowning slightly, but his face softened. He reached out, touching her leg. “It’s nothing. I’ll get over it.” Good. That was settled. Two minutes later, it wasn’t.
