Breaking the Sinner -Ember Leigh NEW RELEASE
Ember Leigh is back on the blog today with a sizzling hot new romance release! Ember writes cutting edge erotic romance which packs an emotional punch. Check it out!
Not all sins lead to hell.
BLURB:
She picked the name Gen.
As a religious exile who fled her community only to land in LA, Genevieve couldn’t be greener. Armed with a list of experiences she’s eager to live, she’s diving headfirst into the choppy waters of normal society. Then she meets Cobra. There’s nothing normal about the resident gym bad boy who struts around like he could undress her with his eyes alone.
And he goes by Cobra.
Cobra knows better than to believe in blessings. Snagging this stable job at Holt Body Fitness is the only break of luck he’s had since his life took a nosedive as a teen, but it’s just a matter of time before this goes downhill too. Which is why when ultra-innocent Gen stumbles onto his bleak path, he’s eager for the distraction provided by the oblivious bombshell. He can help her live her list—but only so far. Because Cobra’s only good at being temporary.
They both have lives they left far behind them.
Setting three months to wade through Gen’s list of sins, the two of them plunge headfirst into something equals parts sizzling and intense. As Cobra inches nearer to securing his permanent spot at the gym, he comes even closer to a scary new reality. One that might be too good to be true. One that will force him to choose between the only family he’s ever known, and the one thing he swore to never need: love.

EXCERPT:
Gen settled into the leather chair, unable to look away from Cobra. When he handed her the drink, their fingers brushed. Her low belly cinched tight. A warning.
“Have you ever been on a date before?” she asked.
He shook his head. “Not really.”
“Oh.” She ran her finger over the white plastic lid of her coffee cup. “Well, why not? It’s normal, right?”
He shrugged. “Maybe. Maybe not so normal if neither of us have done it.”
“According to the movies I’ve been watching recently, we’re supposed to kiss and fall in love after the date,” she said matter-of-factly. The crazy coffee concoction steamed in her hands. Something about the heat made her bold. “But something will prevent us from being with each other, like a tornado or your sudden terminal illness.”
A laugh burst out of him. “What’s my illness?”
“Probably cancer, I hate to say it.” She watched him for a second. “Like muscle cancer.”
“Why muscle cancer?”
“Because you’ve got so much of it.” She took a sip of her drink, but it scalded her lips. She inhaled sharply. “Oh fudge, this is like lava.”
Cobra’s eyes narrowed. His scrutiny left her on pins and needles. “You don’t swear, do you?”
“I just did.”
His cocked his head. “No, you said ‘fudge.’ That’s not swearing.”
She cleared her throat. Uh-oh. She’d been outed. “Well, you know what I’m trying to say.”
“Fuck.”
A shiver went up her spine. “Yeah.”
“So say it.”
She gave him a duh look. “Fine.”
Silence stretched between them. His amused smile crept wider and wider. Her skin prickled.
“I don’t feel like saying it right now.”
He nodded, finally taking a sip of his coffee. “Okay.” He looked at the coffee cup, then took another sip. “Fuck, this is good.”
“Fuck right good.” The words tumbled out of her. And then she realized they didn’t make any sense. The look on Cobra’s face hung somewhere between watching a comedy show and a train wreck.
She covered her face with her free hand. “Well, there, I said it.”
Cobra snorted, leaning back in his chair. “That your first time?”
“No. But maybe my fifth.” She tried to mimic his relaxed posture, but her muscles wouldn’t loosen.
“You think swearing is evil or something?”
“No, not evil. Just…” New. Weird. Forbidden. “Not something I normally do.”
“Like all the other stuff on your list.” His umber gaze seared her. “Be real with me. Are you an alien?”
A laugh popped out of her. Cobra looked as pleased as she felt.
“No. Unless you are too. Maybe we both are.” She ran her thumb over the plastic lid again, gaze drifting toward the roses outside. “Why do you think I’m an alien?”
He leaned forward, his voice dropping a little. “Because you’re gorgeous, you’re a redhead, you don’t swear, and you’ve never had alcohol before. Either you were raised in a cave, or you’re from outer space.”

Blurb
Out-of-work violinist Erica Timberly decides enough is enough. She leaves her abusive boyfriend and flees the big city, but then her
car breaks down in the middle of the night. Though wary of men, she accepts help from Dylan Haynes, a stranger driving by on the road, and soon recognizes him as the sexy former drummer of her favorite indie rock band. Maybe, just
maybe, her run of bad luck is finally turning around.
Music teacher Dylan Haynes knows Erica is in trouble, and her black eye is only the first clue. The stubborn yet vulnerable woman needs a friend, but he’s determined to give her everything she deserves.
Will Erica listen to the music in her heart and trust Dylan, or will her past always threaten her future?

Excerpt
Dylan deepened the kiss and lightly tugged on her bottom lip. Tears streaked his flushed cheeks as he smiled
at her. “I’m so grateful I found you, baby. I heard you screaming. When I saw that bastard press a gun to your head, my heart nearly exploded. I thought I might lose you. I promise you, Erica, I will never control you as Phil did. You will always have the ability to choose. I
just want to make you happy.”
She gripped his hand and brushed her lips across his calloused knuckles. “I know. You do make me happy. You took
a bullet for me.” A sob constricted her throat, but she pushed it down.
A blast of noise rent the air. Fireworks filled the sky, visible in the alley from the narrow stretch of space between
the buildings.
Erica loved the bright colors and designs, but hardly cared about watching the spectacle. She dropped her gaze
back to Dylan.
A grin spread across his face. “It’s been one wild Fourth of July. Why don’t we do something more low-key next year? How
about no guns and crazy exes? Just us, the creek, and a bottle of wine. Clothing optional.”
She laughed softly, amazed he could make light of the situation. “That sounds perfect. Absolutely perfect.”

A Talent for Trouble – New Release & Giveaway from Landra Graf!
I’m pleased as could be to have fellow author Landra Graf on the blog today to spotlight her newest sci-fi romance with Totally Bound Publishing, A Talent for Trouble. Landra is an incredibly talented author, whom I’ve had the privilege of knowing for several years now. Check out this stunning new novel, and be sure to enter the Rafflecopter Giveaway below!
Description:
Drug runner Emilio Morales is one deal away from being the sole runner from Earth to the upper planets—until his partner attempts a double-cross. Now, Emilio’s stuck in a disabled spaceship with an unpredictable, attractive female who’s willing to help him out if he’ll assist her in retrieving her ship from an impound facility.
Antonia ‘Toni’ Smith is sick and tired of being beholden to men. The only way to guarantee freedom is to get back her bootlegging ship to run her own business again. When Emilio kills her ticket out, she’s forced to rely on him for assistance. Emilio, the most wanted and annoying man in the solar system, is a sexy-as-hell means to an end.
But every plan the duo makes falls apart and every day they spend in each other’s company increases the tension between them.
With the death toll rising and their defenses low, can Emilio and Toni get the happy ending they want, without falling for each other in the process?
Excerpt: He poured himself a glass. Turning it slowly, spreading the liquid up the sides and back down, he noticed he wasn’t alone. “Can I offer you a drink?”
“No,” a sultry feminine voice responded. “There’s nothing over there isn’t made in the still or fermented in a barrel.”
“Suit yourself.” Emilio turned and took in the view. Mother Mary.
The woman, a vision of sin, stood angled toward the fancy window display where three floor-to-ceiling panels showcased the twinkling view. She wore a glimmering red dress, which sparkled even more as she turned toward him. Her hair was a pale-white blonde, short and framing her face, giving it a distinct diamond shape. She’d be labeled gorgeous, more than the word could construe, with her eyes the color of whiskey—and not the cheap stuff in his glass. No, the full-bodied swirling amber and caramel colors.
“What brings you to Casa Manolo?” He swallowed a little more whiskey than he intended and did his best to sound suave, but the words came out more like a croak.
“Nothing that concerns you.” The dismissal paired with a smile, a little thing revealing flawless teeth. He glanced down at her one note of defiance—boots. Grav boots to be exact, black and fierce. A deep, soul-encapsulating need clamped onto his brain, a need he’d waited years to experience. This was the woman he’d been waiting for. The type he’d always wanted. The one he’d call his.
He walked closer, eager to see if she took a similar interest in him. “Oh? Well, I’m happy to make this visit less business and more pleasure. Your name is?”
The words escaped his mouth as he glanced at her lips—expressive, full and waiting for his kiss, even when those same lips uttered, “Too expensive for you.”

Bonus Excerpt:
Emilio watched her like a hawk. “How the hell do you know how to do that?”
“I captain a ship. Most people don’t just get to run a vessel because they win it gambling.”
“So, you’ve heard of me?” He winked at her.
She groaned. “Yes, by reputation alone.”
“All good things?”
“If you call being a ladies’ man who attracts desperate, scar-loving station-clingers a good thing.” She left out the rumors of his bedroom prowess. Because she’d turned over a new leaf. No sex, no men and definitely no crazy stuff.
“I can tell from your expression you’ve heard other things.”
How easily he’d read her since the moment they’d faced off on Casa Manolo bugged her as well. She focused on the piloting. “Maybe that you won a fancy ship in a poker game.”
“Better to win one than lose one,” he replied.
The words stung, the sharp pain taking up residence somewhere in the center of her chest. Why am I attracted to him again? “You know what they say on Mars…can’t win big if you don’t risk big.”
“Mars girl, eh?”
Toni gave a single nod.
“Makes sense why you’re crazy.”
She wanted to take offense at his shocked tone, dismissive like so many of the men she’d met over the years. The way the upper planets still regarded woman as objects more often than as productive members of society drove her nuts. “Don’t let this dress fool you.”
“It’s doing everything but fooling me,” he retorted with a smirk.

Exclusive excerpt into The Longer They Last (warning, NSFW):
Chapter One
Piper’s mother often said the smallest things can cause the biggest problems. Of course, her advice was in reference to attitudes and letting go of gripes in general, but never did the phrase ring truer than this morning. Jack had hopped in the shower in their hotel room, and Piper spotted his tux jacket on the back of a chair. She lifted the jacket and hung it in a suit bag. As she zipped the bag closed, a small black object fell out. She retrieved it and gasped at the closed, velvet ring box─ threat-level Pandora in the palm of her hand.
Piper shook herself out of her daydream and released the docking line from its cleat on the back of the cruiser yacht. She’d returned the ring box to Jack’s jacket as soon as she’d found it, without so much as a word about it. But holy hell, the concept of him proposing terrified her. He wanted to get married this soon? They’d barely gotten back together. She’d get her head around it later. Right now, they needed to set sail.
“Last line’s cast off, Jack,” she called over her shoulder. Jack hollered back in response, and she took one last look at the pretty shoreline of Catalina Island. In stressful times, there were certain places one could visit in one’s imagination, special memories that brought peace or a wistful smile to one’s face when the sights, smells, and tastes were recalled. Catalina would forever be such a place for her, wherever her road in life with Jack took her.
She turned around and walked through the semi-shade of the deck lounge to the helm where Jack stood and checked their bearings. Despite the uncertainty of what she’d found this morning, a pleasant warmth spread inside her at the sight of his impressive muscular frame beneath the outline of his loose white shirt. She rubbed a little hand sanitizer into her palms as he reversed out of the dock. He glanced at her, and she kissed his cheek. “Greatest holiday ever. Thank you for kidnapping me. Now, back to reality.”
Jack’s thick brown hair lifted with the light breeze as he turned the boat. “Bah. Reality’s overrated. I did a sweep of the entire yacht, every nook and cranny. I’m pleased to report no runaway convicts or stowaways aboard.”
“Thank God. Though I have to admit, Diego did ramp up the excitement. It wouldn’t have been the same without him.”
“Oh, come on. Is sex with me really that bad?”
She shook her head and grinned. “Yes. Anyway, we’ll have to send him a cupcake in prison when we get back.”
“As long as it doesn’t have a nail file in it.” He winked. “I love it when you wear your curls loose, by the way. It looks nice.”
She rewarded him with a radiant smile. He’d made it his mission to please her in every possible way since they’d come to Catalina, and it left her feeling pampered and relaxed. “Thank you. I like this open-throated pirate look you’ve got going on.”
“I wonder why.”
“No idea.” She slid her palm over the warm flesh of his broad chest.
He kept his gaze on the ocean but rubbed the tops of her fingers with his free hand.
“The waves are calm. I didn’t expect that. Ready for your New Year’s broadcast tonight?”
“As ready as I’ll ever be, I guess. I’ve watched the ball drop on TV, but I’ve never taken part in a countdown before. We’ll broadcast intermittently, but it’s still pretty exciting. You’ll come to the company get-together before my segment at eleven-thirty, right?”
“Of course. Wouldn’t miss it. You’ll do great, Piper.”
“We’ll see.” She watched the waves in the distance. “I’ll do better with you there, even if it’s off to the side. After how blissful it’s been the last couple days, I don’t want to separate and go back to the real world yet.”
He met her eyes. “Who says we have to?”
She kissed him and cupped his jaw with her palm. It was remarkable how a love you didn’t know was absent from your life could enter and take it over so completely and in the best of ways. She drew back. “You gonna let me steer again? I promise not to crash.”
The corner of his mouth lifted, and he reached over to a peg near the helm and took down his white captain’s hat. He fitted it onto her head and gave her a little salute.
“Ship’s all yours, Cap’n.”
He stepped aside, and she took the wheel.
“Very good, Mr. Spencer. How does the hat look?”
“It looks yare.”
She laughed. “Now there’s a word I haven’t heard in a long time. Isn’t it from that old Katherine Hepburn movie? I didn’t think people still said it.”
His finger stroked down the length of her arm as she steered, and a sweet tingle spread through her body at the feather-light touch.
“My dad was old-school, and he liked to turn a good phrase or two. I’m serious. I like the cap on you. I’d love to see what you look like in it and nothing else.”
Her pussy tightened at the raw need in his gaze, and she grew wet. “Be careful what you wish for, Captain Spencer. You just might get it. Take over the wheel for a second. I need some water. Are you thirsty? Can I get you a glass?”
He took the wheel from her, and his eyes gleamed with lust. “Yeah.”
She skimmed her fingers along his and rounded the corner to the kitchenette area. She poured a glass of water from a gallon container and toyed with a wicked idea. Over the past few days, she’d learned she could be as playful as she wanted with Jack, and he responded precisely how she needed him to. She looked down and tugged at her nipples, the mental image he’d painted a moment ago fresh in her mind.
She bit her lip and set the water down as her pussy throbbed. She ran her hand between her legs to soothe the ache. She shed her shirt and the rest of her clothes and left them in a pile on the wooden floor. Her body had grown attuned to his, and she needed his touch.
They’d made love once this morning when they awoke, but they were alone out here on the open sea. Her time in Catalina with Jack had taught her that if she asserted herself and showed him what she wanted, he gave it back to her tenfold. And right now, she was ready for it.
She fixed the brim of Jack’s captain’s hat over her brow, picked up the glass of water, and sashayed toward the helm. She cleared her throat. “Would you like your water now?”
***
When Jack turned around, he sucked in a breath. Sweet Poseidon.
Piper strode toward him, stark naked with her magnificent curves and ethereal face, dazzling in the sunlight. Angelic. He took in her long neck, full, pouty lips, and wide-set dark eyes, and he went hard as steel. The sight before him was what poets wrote sonnets about, why Greek sculptors spent days working each delicate curve, why the Taj Mahal had been built. He put a hand to his racing heart.
“Oh my God. You’re…exquisite.” The word seemed inadequate to describe her beauty, like calling a majestic sunset simply okay. He’d liked to have framed her image, to capture it on canvas or film or any goddamn way he could. Coupled with her confident nature, her natural loveliness rivaled Aphrodite’s, and he thanked God that this sacred moment would belong to him and him alone. It was like a universal offering, a holiday present. Her image would be burned into his brain until the day he died.
He generally tried to behave, but with Piper, primal instinct liked to kick him in the balls and leave his propriety curled up on the floor in a fetal position. Within a mere second, the sight of her luscious body, his hat perched on her head, with that naughty look she wore, did him in. His cock took over.
He darted his gaze to the helm board and checked their surroundings. The ocean was calm, with no ship in sight. They had a little time to themselves, and he intended to make the most of it. He engaged the reverse thrust and reached out for Piper as the boat slowed down.
She stepped out of his reach.
“Not so fast. Stop the yacht, and meet me at the tail end.” She took a sip of the water and licked the rim of the glass before she turned away.
He cursed beneath his breath and willed the yacht to fucking stop already. When the engine idled, he set it to drift. The ocean was flat as glass, the waves quiet. Unlike his heart, which pounded against his rib cage as it gravitated toward Piper’s magnetic pull. He moved through the aft deck, kitchenette, and shaded lounge until he came to the open end of the boat. Piper stood near a red-cushioned sofa in the open sunshine with her back to him as she gazed out at the waves. She’d set the glass of water down on a deck table, and he took a moment to watch her.
Her dark curls tumbled down her back against her lily-white skin. The vivid blue of the sky, white rails, and darker blue of the ocean enveloped her in a perfect frame. She was a damn fine work of art. He clenched his fists and breathed deep.
“You’re beautiful, Piper.” He stepped close as she turned around and tilted her head up to him, her face alight with desire. He touched her collarbone and glided his fingertip across its elegant line. “I don’t know where to start first. Here.”
He pressed his lips where his fingers had been and licked a path along it. She shivered, and her slim hand caressed his shoulder.
“Here,” he murmured, licking her nipple. He tested the weight of her other beautiful breast as he enclosed it in his mouth and softly sucked. He ran his free hand along the small of her back, smoothing it upward.
He straightened, released her breast, and lifted her chin to peer into her eyes. “Or here,” he whispered. He took her lower lip between his. God, the sweet taste of her. The kiss was heavy, stretching, and drugging. He stroked the back of his finger down her side, over her breasts, and down the curve of her hips.
Piper paused between kisses, her beautiful brown eyes shining. “Take me. Make love to me right here, Jack, with the sun and wind on our backs, the salty smell of the ocean. I want to remember this forever. It’s the perfect spot.”
Jack’s breath rattled as he ran his palm around the curve of her bottom and possessively squeezed it. “Oh, trust me; you’ll have a lot to say about the perfect spot in a minute.” He crashed his mouth down onto hers and took her fervor for all it was worth. Piper was a gold mine of passion, and he’d learned to dredge every last morsel of it. They’d been together countless times on the trip, but each time made his love for her grow, knowing she chose to be with him after their rocky start. She fit him like a glove, soft as silk and hot as fire—uniquely Piper.

Excerpt:
Her fantasy lover is real…
“Why are you wearing a suit and tie this time?” She squinted against the sunlight. Please, God, let this be a dream. He moved his head and put her in shade.
“This time?” He lifted an eyebrow, perplexed. “You’ll have to forgive me, lass, but I’ve no idea what the devil you’re talking about.” He maneuvered himself off her and sat upright at the end of the swing.
She tucked her feet against her, sat up, and blinked at him in utter disbelief.
“I came to knock on the door when I saw you on the swing. You tossed and turned, and with the way you grunted, I assumed you were in the middle of some sort of a seizure.”
He turned his head and licked his lips, full and abused by her kisses. A mushroom cloud of mortification bloomed inside her, steadily bigger by the minute.
“Erm, you…begged me to kiss you, and then you yanked me down. One thing led to another and, well, that was pretty much the way of it. I am only human, though I know it’s no excuse.” He swallowed and stared at her, his Adam’s apple moving in his throat. “I apologize. I shouldn’t have gone down when you pulled me, but it was strange—like you knew me or something.”
Lark leaned forward and rubbed her eyes. This couldn’t be real. He had to be a hallucination. When she opened her eyes, she’d see a man in his fifties with a receding hairline, glasses, and a beer gut. She reopened her eyes, and there he was: The full package.

My Little Secret by Ember Leigh
Watch out, Romance Readers! Ember Leigh’s steamy release, My Little Secret will certainly knock you out! Check out this exciting series and book excerpt below.
BLURB:
HAWK
Focus is my middle name. But Sadie makes me forget why I’m in town, what I’m here to win, why it all matters. That alone should tell me to stay the hell away. But I need more of her, even though I know she’s hiding something from me.
I’ll do anything to keep her by my side. Just how far I’ll go will be my little secret.
SADIE
I’ve had my eye on Hawk for a long time now. Let’s just call him my MMA celebrity dream lover. So when I find myself in Denver at the same time as him, at the same bar as him…I have to say hi. But I sure as hell shouldn’t take it any farther than that. Because he’s in town for one reason: to fight my brother in the biggest televised MMA match of the year.
I can be good… Except I can’t.
But maybe I can make Hawk my little secret.
EXCERPT:
I tugged at the zipper of her coat. “Can I take it off for you?”
“You can do anything you freaking want,” she said, lowering her hood. I unzipped the coat so it hung open, revealing the loose, dark top beneath, and then shed my own coat.
“Anything?” I pressed my lips to the curve of her neck, inhaling the sweet scent there. She smelled like vanilla and something exotic, something I didn’t even know how to place.
“I could revise my statement, but I don’t want to,” she said, voice sounding faraway as I trailed kisses over her jawline.
“Well, I should warn you then…”
She laughed throatily. “Another warning?”
“I can’t do more than kiss you.”
Sadie blinked. “That’s certainly not what you expect to hear in situations like these.”
I pushed her jacket over her shoulders until it rustled to the ground. I traced the outline of her body, over the swell of her hips. “My fight is two weeks away. I can’t get off.”
“Who says you need to?” A playful smile danced over her lips, and in that minute my heart swelled so big I wanted to jump and shout. Sadie was the fucking best.
“Exactly.” I dragged a thumb over her jawline, getting lost in those sparkling jade eyes. “But that doesn’t mean I can’t kiss you everywhere until you do.”

Excerpt:
“What are you called? What’s your name?”
He opened his mouth, and she moved closer, eager for his first words. Instead, he focused on her lips with obvious fascination. His intriguing eyes caught the light. Despite her disappointment that he couldn’t speak, a rush went through her. Alien or not, he was the most handsome man she’d ever laid eyes on, with the kind of ethereal elegance some upper-class, privileged men on Earth spent fortunes on plastic surgery trying to achieve.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to talk, or if you can’t. We’ll get there. Now, I’m going to check you.” She kept her voice gentle, as she might use with a child. She pressed the button to disengage the protective bubble over the med bed and shone the retinal scanner in her own eye to demonstrate. “I just need to look at your eyes with this.” She motioned with the scope to him. “It won’t hurt. I promise.”
Warm puffs of his breath blew on her neck as she leaned in. She paused, noting the remarkable eight-pointed star-shape of his pupils. The mutation was his one physical difference, and only if one looked closely. The pupils dilated when hit by the scope’s light. She’d never seen eyes as remarkable.
“You’re doing great,” she soothed. Her head burst with countless questions. Where are you from? How did you get here? What do you want?
He appeared to like the cadence of her voice. His posture relaxed, and his breath against her was steady. How long had she been staring into his eyes? Should she push her luck and try to examine his mouth?
Before she could try, his finger stroked her inner arm. He was still restrained at the wrists, but he could reach her.
She allowed it. He stroked a featherlight finger along her forearm. As he did so, his gaze never left hers. She offered a kind smile. “That’s right. Friend. Sakota. Sa-ko-ta.”
He opened his mouth and let out a chicken-like squawk. “-Ota,” he said in a throaty, deep voice.
She raised her eyebrows. “Good. Very good.”
He tilted his head, watching her lips. “Gooood.”
Excited, she lowered the retinal light. “Can you understand me?”
He looked confused. “Me…”
“Okay. That’s a no. Then let me take this opportunity to say, in no uncertain terms, you, my friend, are the stuff of dreams and legends. I’ve waited my whole life for this. Are you getting this, Alistair?” she called out.
He came in over the speakers. “I am. Amazing. I’ll get to work on a linguistics program. Our friend seems to want to communicate.”
She moved to pull away, but the man’s fingers closed over her wrist.
“Let me go.” She jerked her arm, but he wouldn’t release his grip. She gave him a cautionary look, and he loosened his fingers, though he still held her. Warning bells went off. What if he’s not here in peace? But his eyes sparkled impishly. He seemed to enjoy her skin pressed against his. Maybe he hadn’t been touched in a while. Or maybe he had a crush. Who knew.
Before she could extricate herself, the intercom chimed. “Sakota, are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. He’s just being friendly—”
The man’s forefinger trailed along her arm again. She sucked in a breath and shut her eyes as a series of images flashed through her mind. A high wall made of stacked stones. A hand spread out to touch the tips of tall, golden wheat of a field. Multihued buildings in the distance under a purple sky. Children’s laughter and then screams. She jerked when the images changed. Strange rain, like metal. Black ships attacking from the sky, horrible screams which rent the air, death. A gentle brush against her hand again. She inhaled and opened her eyes. The man searched her, calm and patient. She struggled to see straight, but her mind spun.
“W-was that your—”
The isolation walls shot up. Rutledge burst into the room and advanced like an angry bear, brutish, immaculate, and combat ready in his black Oceanstone fatigues. “Let her go,” he snarled.
Rutledge yanked the man’s hand off her and pushed her aside. She fell to the floor on her back in a dizzy haze, reeling from the vision. She turned her head. The man bellowed and tore loose from his restraints. His and Rutledge’s images faded into one as they collided and fought. Rutledge’s weapon whirred as he strained to activate it. The rifle propelled over her head and hit the wall.
“Stop.” Her pleas fell on deaf ears. She closed her eyes.
The men barged into the room with heavy footfalls and angry shouts. She opened her eyes, but her vision swirled. The blurred image of the alien lifted Rutledge’s lieutenant like a kitchen chair and catapulted him in the same direction as the weapon. “Stop,” she hollered to the men. “Don’t shoot him. He wasn’t attacking me.”
Another soldier fell to the floor with a sick thud, holding his stomach. “Yeah? Well, he’s attacking me.”
The alien pounced over her, crouching low. He caged her with his body and made a guttural rumble in his throat, a warning to the men. She turned her head to the marines, who zeroed their weapons in on them.
His existence changes everything. Out on 10/12/2018 in digital and paperback.
