“The sweetest thing in all my life has been the longing—to reach the Mountain, to find the place where all the beauty came from—my country, the place where I ought to have been born. Do you think it all meant nothing, all the longing? The longing for home? For indeed it now feels not like going, but like going back.“

-C.S. Lewis

I just wanted to let you know that you are my favorite author, and my inspiration. Someday I hope to write as beautifully as you do and create a book as amazing as TQR. I really love your writing style and creativity in developing plot details! I wish I co

Oh, thank you so much, lovely! This is honestly one of the sweetest things and best compliments I have ever received.

And keep writing. You will continue to grow and discover your own unique writing voice and style the more you explore with words and stories.

I need to read more YA fantasy books like TQR! Are there any books you’d recommend that readers might like if they read TQR and loved it? Thanks!!

So one of my favorite YA Fantasy series of all time is The Books of Pellinor by Alison Croggon. This is a beautiful story about a girl named Maerad who discovers that she is a bard (someone with magical abilities). There are four books in the series, and I love all of them dearly.

Alison, the author, is an Australian poet, so her language and descriptions of her created world are lovely and rich, and Maerad is a heroine that I simply adore. She also has a mentor named Cadvan who I am rather fond of. :)

These books are epic and their style reminds me a lot of Tolkien. It’s like a female led and powered LOTR, with an emphasis on music and language and coming of age.

I think if you enjoyed TQR, you might love these, too. The order of the quartet is THE NAMING, THE RIDDLE, THE CROW, THE SINGING.

I also highly recommend The Shadowfell Trilogy by Juliet Marillier. I LOVE these books so so much. They have a slower pace, but Marillier is such a skilled storytelling and master of characterization. Neryn is the heroine of this saga. She is wise yet cunning, soft hearted yet powerful. I also 100% swoon at the slow burning romance in these books, and the love interest is one of my favorite book boyfriends of all time.

I had massive book hangovers after finishing both of these series. Which is one of the best and worst things ever :)

Hope these recs are helpful, and happy reading!

what is the format supposed to be for a draft on word? I'm writing my first draft and I'm not sure what the format should be (if there even is one) :) Thank you! P.S. I LOVE TQR it's amazing!

Here is how I have my drafts formatted in Word:

Title Page: TITLE (in Caps) By Rebecca Ross

Header (centered): TITLE / Ross Page #

Double spaced, Times New Roman Font, Tab and Paragraph set to 0.25″

Hope this helps :)

When designing the cover for your book, do you get any input on what it should look like or does the artist "do their own thing"? :)

My publisher asked for my input before they began to work on the cover. I told them that I envisioned the cover a shade of blue with some sort of constellation design. The designer came up with a mock up, which my editor showed me and I absolutely loved it. Not much changed between the mock up and the final cover. I was very fortunate my publisher took my ideas and made them look amazing. Sometimes, though, authors have no input in cover design.

When do you plan to release more books?

My second book is a sequel to THE QUEEN’S RISING. It’s titled THE QUEEN’S RESISTANCE and is slated to be published February 2019. And I’m currently drafting my third book, which I can’t say anything about yet, but it should be released in 2020 :)

What is your favorite movie?

Hmm…that’s a tough one. I really love How to Train Your Dragon.
