Someone at TCAF suggested I do a series on Lady Knights and I honestly don’t know why I hadn’t thought of that before. Here’s a sketch for a piece I’ll colour later

✨ One of my favorite journals is beginning to fall apart, and I just have to tell myself that it’s from all the secrets it’s currently holding in its pages.

“Have a dog, or get one, or borrow one….When you’ve been deep in your head for a while, it’s important to touch something warm and alive, something mortal….While the dogs sniff a single blade of grass for two minutes, I find myself looking around. I notice a raptor overhead, an interesting human face, an overheard conversation, something discarded or forgotten in the grass. Be here for the writing life and be here for the real life. Each needs the other.”— Chelsey Johnson, in this week’s Writers Recommend; read the rest at pw.org!

Where is your favorite place that you’ve traveled to?
I love northern Italy and Austria. I visited them years ago and I really need to go back.
I also really love Charleston, South Carolina and Nantucket, Massachusetts.
Hi! I have a few book recommendations for you to read if you’re interested!! The Jewel by Any Ewing; Everless by Sara Holland; the Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern; Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake. And these tv shows, which kind of remind me of TQR:
Ooh, thank you so much for the recs!
I’ve read THE JEWEL and THE NIGHT CIRCUS (loved them both!). I definitely need to pick up the others!
And I loooove Reign and The 100!
What is your favorite singer or band and song? And do you listen to music when you write?
My favorite composer is Ramin Djawdi. He is the master behind the Game of Thrones soundtracks, which–hands down–has been the most influential force in my writing. I love his music and listen to him nearly every time I sit down to write.
I also love Two Steps from Hell. They compose amazing, epic and emotional music that has also inspired quite a bit of my writing.
I also love Sia.
What would you recommend for someone to do if they are trying to brainstorm story and plot ideas? And can you detail your story-planning process a little (like how you plan it all out or if you do at all)? Thank you!
Write ideas out by hand. I feel like the actual motion of writing words on a page is like opening a door to your imagination.
Sometimes, though, you might just need to sit down and test the waters by writing, to let the story unfold and connect on its own. That is what I do probably 85% of the time. I have a seed of an idea and I’ve scribbled some thoughts and random snippets of dialgoue down in my journal, but then it comes to a point where I simply have to write it to begin to figure it out.
But I will say that I am not a planner by any means. I write by the seat of my pants.
If you need the structure of planning and plotting before you write, I highly recommend checking out Susan Dennard’s website. She has some incredible resources for writers, and she has an really intricate way of plotting and revising that you might find helpful.
