I have a huge cork board hanging in my office that I love to fill with art and quotes I’ve been collecting over the years. I feel like as a creator, it’s so important to be refreshed by the works of others, whether that be stories, art, music or performance. So when I’m sitting at my desk working, and I begin to feel exhausted or discouraged from drafting—like I have no more words to give to the page—I always look up to this board. And I never come away empty from it.

*

*

The intriguing print at the top left is one I bought from an artist named Elaine H. I walked by her booth at Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo and was completely entranced by her work.

*

*

The amazing Sansa Stark and Brienna prints are the work of @mynxmania . I still can’t get over how gorgeous and perfect they are.

*

*

The print of the Lady Knight and spirit is called “Guidance” by Anna Steinbaur. I love everything about this; it makes me feel a myriad of things when I study it.

*

*

The constellation map I bought from Capricorn Press on Etsy. Because I must always have a map of stars hanging on my wall. The geode print (which you can’t really see, at the top right corner) is also from Capricorn.

*

*

The black out poetry and Mary Oliver calligraphy quote are things I made. I think I could wall paper my house with Mary Oliver’s words. And black out poetry is so fun and liberating. You should do it if you haven’t tried it before!

What are some things you hang on your walls? Do you have a board of inspiration? ✨

When do you plan to write/publish a new book other than the TQR series? I look forward to reading more of your writing in the future!

Thank you! Well…I’m currently working on something right now, but I can’t quite disclose any details about it yet. But I’m hoping to share some news about this soon, though!

Hi! First of all, TQR was amazing! I'm wondering what your revision process was like before you began querying. Did you have critique partners? Any advice you found particularly helpful?

Hi! Thank you so much :)

So I went through several rounds of edits before I queried TQR. My main focus was to get the story down to a reasonable length, because it was way too long. I did have a few beta readers, but I honestly did not have a dedicated critique partner to help me at this point. Most of my edits were self fueled. The advice I found the most helpful was this: make sure every scene moves the plot along, and to also make sure my book begins at the right place. Because those first 5 pages are so important when you are querying. That’s what an agent is going to look at and decide if they want to request.

What books are you currently reading?

I just finished reading an ARC of Hannah West’s forthcoming YA Fantasy, REALM of RUINS. It was spectacular. I’m also currently reading CIRCE by Madeline Miller and I’m absolutely blown away by how beautiful it is.

Have you ever listened to “Daniel in the Den” by Bastille? If music ever gives you ideas for writing then I think you might love this song-I know I do!!

I have not listened to that, but thanks so much for the rec! I will definitely check it out :)
